  • Its not stupid to be optimistic. Every good thing starts with optimism as far as I know

  • I also use Ouija board rules with AI.

You say please, you say thank you, and when you're done talking, you say goodbye.

And, generally, you try to interact with it as little as possible.

  • The problem with most companies is that they are not led by people with clear visions.

Companies that succeed typically start with a clear vision. However, once that vision is fulfilled, then it starts to become run by people who are simply trying to make money.

Chasing after money becomes the vision, and that is how you get to the way things are in America today.

Having a vision often times means having goals that you're willing to lose money if it gets you closer to achieving them.

That being said, ratuer than voting for your paycheck, something that is much more straightforward and less prone to being taken advantage of would be having set wages based on years of experience and time with the company.

include an opportunity to earn extra during the year by going above and beyond while making it clear that this is not expected of the people at their current job role.

Going above and beyond would be determined by your boss on recommendation, and they would have a limited number of recommendations every year.

Another thing you could do would be to publish what everybody earns on a website that is internal to the company, and make the going above and beyond rewards part of your annual meeting or something so nobody would know if they're going to get an above and beyond reward until then.

Then to actually make it a good thing, you would need to make it a rule to fire the people that do not meet their performance metrics, at least after a set number of times or like failing to fulfill a pip or something.

  • That was not obvious. I'm glad I procrastinated and haven't bought Proton yet.

  • How does that jive with your saying that they don't support the Trump administration?

I don't support companies that support the Trump administration. You said they don't, and then the very next post you say that they do. What the fuck?

  • Permanently Deleted

  • You're saying that nobody else in the family matters even though they've already decided to keep the child.

  • Relatively is carrying a lot of weight there.

Their 28-year-old son may not have much to do with the fact that they are having another kid, but that fully grown adult man is still a part of the family and should count for something.

There's no need to just completely and totally toss him out of the equation.

Especially when you consider that there is a possibility, depending on the age of the girlfriend, that both of them could die before this child reaches the age of majority, in which case, he would likely need to step in to finish the job.

  • Permanently Deleted

  • If I see a 40 plus year old man and a 16 year old girl going places together, I'm going to assume the girl is his daughter.

    Pretty high Ick factor.

  • Permanently Deleted

  • It's amazing the lengths people will go to to avoid a difficult conversation.

Whether you like it or not, you are a part of the total equation and if you have issues with it, you should try to communicate your concerns with all relevant people.

Once you have communicated your concerns, It's not your problem anymore.

People don't have to listen, don't have to do what you tell them to do, and they don't have to take your concerns into consideration.

If they choose to do something stupid that's on them.

  • My dude.

Like, you should chill the fuck out, ok?

There's no need to go around condemning people to eternal torment and isolation from God because of a two paragraph comment.

  • The author is active on bluesky and she's actually quite nice and everything you would expect her to be.

  • Yeah, and?

Do you honestly believe there's a single person on lemmy with enough gravitas to be worth being tracked by the elite?

  • Regardless of the truth, I prefer Diane Duane's explanation in the "So, You Want to Be a Wizard" novel, In that all of the steam in the subways are generated by a breed of fire worms. These worms, if left long enough, can grow to the size of a respectable and quite terrifying dragon.

  • When you're thinking- okay, maybe this is a me thing, but when I think about financial equality, I consider the extremes.

Taking into account what the person or family that makes $80,000 to $140,000 a year doesn't really do anything for the poor and the destitute, right?

So if iPhones suddenly become $7,000 expenditures on par with like a decent used car from 10 years ago, then it's definitely going to be the kind of thing where somebody has to make enough money to afford it.

And you can't only consider the middle class when looking at the affordability of a particular object.

So if iPhone's multiplied by 7, then the minimum wage needs to multiply by 7. And I did a little quick math in my head, I didn't get the exact pennies, right? But I know 7.25x7 is like $36 and change, right? So, yeah.

But if the minimum wage were to suddenly multiply by seven, then the value of 401Ks, which are locked in at pre-minimum wage readjustments, are taken into account, then the value of 401Ks would drop by one-seventh, enriching the poor, while taking money out of the elderly and retired people who are relying on that for their daily survival. And as minimum wage increases, the cost of goods are going to increase along with them, because retailers will know that they can sell their products at a higher price because the minimum wage has gone up.

So yeah, that's several paragraphs and 1,492 letters worth of text to describe and explain my justification for two paragraphs earlier.

  • I mean, if iPhones went from $1,100 apiece to $7,000 apiece and minimum wage jumped to $38 an hour, then sure maybe.

But then, if we did that, your parents and grandparents can say goodbye to any concept of their retirement accounts having value enough for them to survive on without working a full-time job.

  • I mean, there are scanners and sonar and Time domain reflectometers that, if backed by intelligent and empowered staff, can prevent those things from happening.

That being said, the people that are in charge of these are penny-pinching skin-flint scumbags, therefore they will not spend the money needed to make sure it's safe.

Which is why we were protesting it in the first place, because we knew this shit would happen.

  • Do you want the rabbit of caerbannog?

Cos that's how you get the rabbit of caerbannog.

  • I feel like this is one of those things where, even though there is a likelihood that you are right, you don't actually know that you are correct.

    People are weird.

People are occasionally evil, especially towards weird people.

There's an entire possibility that atheists have stoned somebody to death, and since you're the one making the claim, I feel like you should be the one to scour every single instance of death in all of human history to verify your claim.

  • My favorite theory about pinky and the brain is, in the opening song, they say "one is a genius, the others insane", but when they say "one is a genius", they show pinky, and then they say "the others insane", they show the brain, indicating that pinky is the actual genius in the group and the brain is the insane one.

  • It's almost like they forgot that they rolled out the DEI system to protect themselves from lawsuits.

What was going on in England in the 1970s to give Monty Python so much comedy fodder that is still relevant today?

Their jokes about assigning gender to babies and to being transgender, dressing in drag, like all of it was a send-up.

Sure, they did punch down if you were a person who were in those groups, but the fact that it was large enough social event to be relevant enough to be a comedy skit on a television show or a movie seen by millions implies that there were some serious things going on back then that they could see and wanted to address.

What the hell was going on that put all of those things in their mind?

We need to build an Yggdrasil

I'm sure we've got the technology somewhere. We just need like a giant fucking tree to suck the carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and to desalinate the oceans. Something that's the size of an island all by itself.

I don't care if it's 100 billion trees woven together with some science fuckery, but we need an Yggsrasil if we want to fix the planet.

Think about it. A giant tree out in the middle of the ocean that sucks up all of our carbon dioxide and turns it into more trees and that sucks the salts and minerals and plastics out of the ocean and incorporates those into itself until it grows as tall as 100 billion trees woven together with dark science can possibly grow.

Sure, it'll cost I don't know several billion dollars to make this happen a trillion I don't fucking know, but if we had that the world would get better.

    How do you scream?

Like I get the push more air through your mouth and get louder but my voice never breaks. I just get louder and louder and louder until I can't get louder anymore.

One time a friend of mine was a half a block away in the wrong direction and I screamed their name and they jumped because they said it sounded like I was right behind them talking in my normal voice just very loudly.

But then I listen to singers and they get that raw raspy edge to their voice and my voice doesn't do that.

    How do you do that?

How about we play, "Never have I ever"?

    Here's the rules:

1: Post something you have never done that you think many people do. 2: Read the other posts, if you have done that thing, upvote it. If you have not done that thing, downvote it. 3: If you believe the person is lying, call them out on it in a reply. 4: If you are called out, give the full story. 4a: If you see a thread containing the full story, boost the person you think is right and truthful.

Person who has the most upvotes when the thread dies wins.

AI isn't as bad as the doomsayers say it is

Don't get me wrong, there are problems with it, both in the process that modern AI uses as well as the sources that it draws from, however, as of right now ai is just a tool like auto-tune or photoshop.

Even though it will change the media formats that it is attached to, it will not supplant them within the next 5 to 10 years, it will simply transform them.

    Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

If you could design your own body and hit a button and have it immediately implemented, would you keep your natural self or would you make changes?

We'll just all assume that every person who gets this would make themselves early twenties with flawless skin, perfect organs, appendages and functionality, and no excess weight.

My question is, would you change yourself from your genetic baseline, and if so, how?
