  • Living by sovereignty is the way for me. I live my life as I see fit, and uphold the rights of others to do the same. I try to take the path of least sovereignty violation. If I need to defend myself, I attempt to do so in a way that simply removes the other's desire or capability to interfere with me. Barring that, I can use their methods against them.

Although this may come across as isolationist, the reality is that if you like community, you should pursue it - and the community which respects the individual has the potential to be the strongest.

  • I think we may have an upcoming time of enclavization, where different people build their communities upon the ideals they hold - little communities that say "fuck it, we'll do it our way", and that eventually will grow or shrink, depending on what principles they operate by.

  • but, he doesn't like it, so it's a scam. it's not enough just to not buy it, he has to bitch about it and save the world from this evil, malignant company selling extremely customizable Linux laptops with versatile expansion options.

  • this might be ringing in late, but consider a large USB disk with Ventoy on it. you can just drop multiple ISOs on it, and then select which one you want you boot from right at boot time.

this will give you the ability to easily try multiple distros without too much commitment.

  • Ah. I do not think of capitalism (nor communism) as a base, but rather as an emergent activity of the (more foundational than economic structure) human mind and societal organism.

this is because regardless of the presence or absence of capitalism and communism, the human mind exists. The human mind and the underlying physical, emotional, mental, and holistic needs are more foundational than the economic system we employ.

I don't think I'm conflating them. I simply think the humans are the foundation, not the economic system.

  • What is this thing? @lemmy.world

    What is this awful thing?

This awful creature was, according to my partner, found under or black walnut tree, attached to or emerging from the neck of a very-recently killed bunny that the dog had (killed within the last ~15m). Any idea what it is? More pics available.

It's not smooth like a slug/leech, but has a textured surface. It looks like a grub, but what would a grub be doing attached to a bunny? It has an obvious mouth and anus. She described the mouth part as "hexagonal", which she saw open while it was alive, coming off of or out of the Bunny's neck (it was in or by by a wound it didn't necessarily inflict).

I think it's probably just congealed evil and should be thrown into a fire, along with everything it touched except the puppy, and that's how it's going to get me.

My opinion is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but what is this really?
