  • Prayers for me but not for thee.

  • I attempted to update Nextcloud and failed spectacularly. Need to rebuild our family calendars now.

  • Good luck, I mean it. Caring and seeking to understand is a core first step. I'm not sure I have any sage advise but one thing that stood out to me is needing to quit "forever". That's a really big commitment. A lot of us are able to chain together single days that add up to bigger numbers. Forever is a long time, but a day is doable. Finding positive connections is a big deal and will help them on their journey. It's tough to find good ones, but they exist.

  • It's the times you don't pull out that get ya.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

What is a useful or interesting product under $100 that you wouldn’t normally think to buy?

  • I'm this person and I often get misunderstood. I can be the center of a room and I'm loud not quiet. People attribute this with being an extrovert. I am absolutely not, I am an introvert. It's draining for me to be front and center but I don't mind doing it. I recharge by being alone. I have to explain this to folks often.

In my mind, it's a best of both worlds being able to do both. But the introvert/extrovert is about how you gain energy, not whether you are shy or center of attention.

  • I read through the Penpal creepypastas. Gave off some really unsettling vibes that will stick with me.

  • They changed it a few years back to default to the Lifecycle fund which matches your retirement date.

  • Two strategies I employ that work for me:

    • Each morning I commit to myself that I will not drink today. Committing for a month or a year or the rest of my life is a really big commitment. But committing for a day is doable. Using this strategy, I've chained together over 1000 sober days in a row and that number just snuck up on me because I simply track today.
    • When I feel the urge to drink I "play the tape forward". There's a lot you can read on this subject, but for me it reminds me of why I chose to stop in the first place. That drinking doesn't solve any of my problems and if anything, it makes them more difficult for me to deal with.

  • It's been a long time but I remember it being something like 18-24 months. Not a short ordeal.

  • The app the study used is Healthy Minds. I downloaded it this morning to give it a shot. Seems better than other guided meditation or breathing apps I've tried, is free, and has a learning path sorta like DuoLingo which makes it gamified for my brain. Gonna try to do at least one activity per day and see how it works.

  • I slept through Chemistry. Somehow managed to get a B-. Couldn't tell you anything about it.

  • Just put down the closing costs for a house. So saving to replenish savings for a bit.
