  • Haha. I feel like anything that could be launched from a paraglider, has been launched from a paraglider. Check out the Coupe Icare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu3q_M4iVb4

  • Probably because Sync on your phone is connecting/downloading directly from Imgur, which is bad for privacy. Voyager uses the image cached on your instance, if possible, to avoid connecting to arbitrary hosts to load images when browsing your feed.

  • It's not a client issue. It's a lemmy/instance-specific issue. Look at the following link in your browser, then tap the image to expand. You will see bad image quality. https://lemmy.world/comment/11323036

Edit: Works fine with my vger.social account. Looks like shit on lemmy.world.

Edit 2: Looks like shit on sh.itjust.works and lemmy.world. Which are both running very outdated 0.19.3. Looks great on feddit.org, vger.social, lemm.ee which are running up to date version of Lemmy (0.19.5).

  • Wisconsin does this to preserve native ecosystems! I believe this particular land is maintained by the County.

Prescribed fire is the intentional application of fire to a specific pre-planned area, under specific environmental conditions, to accomplish planned land management objectives. Without the use of prescribed burning as a management tool, Wisconsin could lose many of its native grassland, wetland and savanna plant communities.

  • Mlem in app browser is using an in app browser API that is secure by design. It doesn’t allow snooping or injecting anything. This article is talking about abusive apps like Facebook that roll their own in app browser.

Edit: although on iOS, the secure iOS in app browser api is always using safari engine, so the user choice argument is still valid.

  • Permanently Deleted

  • It's crazy that the in-app browser isn't an OS-level overlay that the app can't influence or look at what the user is doing in it.

Android and iOS both have apis for in app browsers that are secure by design. Voyager for Lemmy uses this. Mastodon uses this. Last I checked even Twitter used this. However Facebook does not.

these platforms also offer lower level APIs to build custom interface which are more powerful and flexible (but can be abused). This isn’t necessarily a problem. Custom browser apps need that functionality, and apps sometimes display their own content with web views.

The problem is that app stores allow slapping a skin on this more powerful API and treating it like an in app browser to connect to arbitrary sites. Dumb imo. If you offer an in app browser, it should be required to use the platforms secure in app browser API.

More powerful APIs should only be available to browser apps and displaying your own content in a web view.

Subject: Participating in Reddit’s Initial Public Offering (IPO)

Just received the following email from Reddit...

    u/[REDACTED],

tl;dr -- you're invited to a special program that lets redditors purchase stock at the same price as institutional investors when we IPO. Details about eligibility and next steps follow. This (long, dense) email has all the info we can provide due to legal restrictions.

As you may have heard, Reddit has taken steps toward becoming a publicly traded company with the initial public filing of our registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on February 22, 2024. Yes, it's happening.

And because you have helped make Reddit what it is today, you now have the opportunity to become Reddit owners at the same price as institutional investors.

We're offering a Directed Share Program ("DSP") that invites eligible users and moderators who have contributed to Reddit to participate in our initial public offering ("IPO"). (Including you!)

Virtua (virtual scrolling library for react)

I started using Virtua for Voyager and I'm really impressed! It has a dead simple API (wrap existing .map with VList component), avoids rerendering items on scroll like other solutions, doesn't glitch on iOS devices with unknown height items like many other libraries, super small footprint. The author is also very responsive. Thought I'd share!

0.17.0: 😢 The last release of wefwef...

Now that I got your attention with that clickbait title..

    Subscribe to [email protected]!

But it's also true. This is the last release of wefwef. Tonight the app will be renamed, and all future releases will be Voyager!

Note: you don't need to do anything if you have the app installed. The app will continue to be named 'wefwef' on your homescreen until you reinstall.

    So what's new for 0.17.0?

    Block communities and users

It's here! You can now block users and communities! Just go to their page and tap the ellipsis in the header. Additionally, there's a new "Filters & Blocks" section to settings (applied per user)!

There's also an option to hide all NSFW content for your account!

Finally, it's now much easier to message users. Just tap on their profile and "Send Message"!

Voyager: The road to v1 and app icon redesign contest!

Hi there! First of all, I wanted to say thank you. Thanks for submitting bugs and PRs, sharing wefwef, and for the overwhelming kindness from everyone here. 💙 I would not be writing this post right now if it wasn’t for that.

I have a few important announcements in this thread, so please read on!

    (TLDR subscribe to [email protected]!)

    The road to v1

Somehow, after only a few weeks, v1 is in reach! That being said, there are a few important features needed in order to get there:

    1. Blocking and unblocking users and communities
    2. Hide NSFW posts toggle
    3. Community favorites
    4. Better keyboard handling on comment and post dialogs
    5. Workaround for light mode status bar on iOS
    6. Direct connect to lemmy.world instead of proxy workaround

Keep in mind, v1 won’t be perfect. There will be bugs :) This is just the point at which we feel there is nothing critical outstanding.

    Our new name: Voyager

Thanks so much for all of the really great and important points for either ke

0.15.0 - Community quick switcher and revamped gallery view

We're really excited for this release :)

    Community quick switcher

You can now easily switch between communities and even search for new ones - all without leaving the feed! Just tap the header of any post feed.

    Revamped gallery

The gallery component was given some TLC and is now enabled on the feed! (No needing to tap into a post to zoom an image!) You can even upvote, reply, comment and share from the gallery itself!

If you run Android, the gallery now respects your back button :)

This is just the start of what I personally want the gallery to do, so keep an eye out for more improvements around here!

    Enjoy~

0.13.0: Save posts and comments for later

Remember that bookmark icon that literally did nothing? Well, now it does something  😅 Thanks to xBracey for this!

So go ahead and save posts and comments for later, and since they are saved to your lemmy account, they'll show up on other clients that support saving, too!

In the future, configurable swipe gestures will support swipe-to-save as well!

0.12.0: Swipe to hide is here!

    First, features...

    Swipe to hide!

This is a huge feature that has a lot of effort put into making it work flawlessly, even with hundreds of thousands of hidden items. So swipe away! All data is persisted locally per account. In the future, we'll add hide on scroll, and it should work really well with our performant storage implementation. Shoutout to burakcan for all your hard work on this :)

Comment dialogs now ask for confirmation before nuking your data

I can't tell you how much I hate software that loses your progress. When the new comment dialog was implemented, I though there would be about 5 people using wefwef, but now there are tons of you!

Care was taken to ensure you can continue to swipe away the comment dialog if no new content has been entered - for example, if you accidentally swipe to reply.

Care was also taken to confirm before closing a tab or navigating

    wefwef @lemmy.world
    aeharding @lemmy.world

Sorting by "top" is now implemented in 0.11.0!

Go check it out, it's pretty cool. It also shows a check mark which is a nice visual cue for sorting.

btw, are there any graphic designers here with experience with SVGs? If we want to make this feature even better, we need custom calendar icons!

Please upgrade to 0.9.1 as a workaround to connection issues to lemmy.world.

Lemmy 0.18 broke direct connection to the Lemmy API from web clients with a very strange merge request two weeks ago. I have no idea what the motive was for this to be merged. Suffice it to say, it's been the source of a ton of headache today. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/3191

Luckily, there is a new PR to fix web clients not being able to connect to lemmy instances here: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/3421

If you have a github account, please "thumbs up" this PR. DO NOT COMMENT, that just spams the devs

    Thanks! :)

    Should we change app names?

I've heard a lot of people want to change app names. Which I'm totally fine with! I've heard a lot of love for the name "Voyager"

So, thoughts? Do you prefer renaming? Do you like the name "Voyager"? Any other good ideas?

wefwef.app is getting rate limited by lemmy.world

EDIT: This has been resolved! Thanks @[email protected]*

Looks like we gotten past one rate limit but we've hit another / (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

This should be fully resolved on 0.8.1. Please update.

Y'all love the https://wefwef.app so much that it's getting rate limited by https://lemmy.world. That's why you're probably getting errors.

I'm talking to get the limited boosted, but in the meantime:

    1. Self-host!
    2. Use a community deployment, and/or host one! There's only one right now. (Note: Make sure you trust the server admin.)
    3. Temporarily use a lemmy account from another instance (wefwef has multi account support!)
