It's probably cheaper to manufacture a bunch of the same motor than two physically different ones due to economy of scale.

I wouldn't buy one, but for the sake of a counter-argument: Hubs have been around for a long time and have had many refinements over the years. Many of the flaws that the hubless design suffers from might very well be mitigated through further development over the next hundred years or so. Still, I prefer the repairability, practicality, and reliability of a wheel with spokes as well.

Even a couple decades ago they started at hundreds of dollars new, unless you're talking about poorly assembled bike shaped objects made from sketchy parts.

Also, there are single bikes that cost well over 10 grand. Rich enthusiasts may have entire garages full of high end bikes that cost more than your average car.

My bike cost half that and is 15 years old.

They've been using them to some degree of success in some motorcycles, but I'm definitely not buying one even if it does kinda look cool.

Mine have handles near the center and it helps a ton, I imagine a strap could make a big difference if the bike lacks one!

I've used walk mode to help, but mostly it's just you gotta muscle it up the stairs. Try to keep it close to your center of gravity, avoid lifting with your back, take advantage of the brakes when you need to pause, and if that's not feasible, consider a regular bicycle or folding bike/ebike that doesn't weigh a ton.

Can you post a pic of your setup and do you have a window big enough to get your bike through? Maybe a hoist or temporary ramp could be options?

Yeah, your fender sounds like it'd just pop off anyhow and you'd (probably) be fine in a failure.

I saw Berm Peak do a review on this thing and it looks like utter garbage.

The top mount failed because it was faulty, then the wheel grabbed the fender and wrapped it around the front wheel. The supports attached to the forks lacked emergency releases, so instead of popping off harmlessly, it threw me into the pavement at 25 mph. This was on an ENGWE EP2 Pro.

If you have a fender like this, swap out the bolts on the forks for 5-10 lb zip ties (and keep an eye on the uppermost mount to make sure it's still in good shape of course), during a failure, this should allow it to pop off instead of your bike turning you into a meat crayon.

Ripping around the farm instead of using a dirtbike or quad? Recreational? I imagine they'll dial it down in other models if it gets wider adoption.

I assume they're for off road use only.

I wrecked at maybe half that or less and broke my arm, tore up muscle/tendon, and enjoyed some fairly deep road rash on a couple spots after a front fender failed on an ebike, twice that speed on a board wheels that are maybe 100-120mm is absolutely nuts.

Even with mountain board wheels 45mph is insane
