  • All current "working and marketable" linux phones are built on top of android currently for compatibility with that existing market, so it depends how detached from android you want to be. (To my knowledge. Id love to be proven wrong)

    If completely, then no.

Better bet is an android OS that has everything ripped out of it and privacy hardened. Its the same thing the linux phone is doing but without the linux portion sitting on top.

Otherwise you can attempt to use a pure linux setup but it's going to be rough unless youre already set on dropping creature comforts.

  • Yeppp. Try to go get groceries or go visit a friend or go to work without passing by one. You'll quickly realize it becomes a game of which angle and backroads do i have to take to get there.

Modern day underground railroad type stuff but with license cameras.

  • Yeah but how could they sell you on subscription services and 'new features' if you just keep using the old one?

Bit like buying a new car for no other reason than "it's new".

That said, in 2018~ i had to modernize an MS Access 2003 database and about lost my mind so there's a case for everything i suppose.

  • Yep. still driving my old civic until the wheels fall off, and then even at that if the frame and engine are still good, ill just get more wheels.

We'll see in another 3-5 years what mid 2010s cars are holding up for 200k+ miles and get one of them used.

Remember folks, the best way to drive eco is to not create more car waste in the first place. Mpg/utility/usability all come second. Take basic care of your car, dont buy junk.

  • Notepad

  • Nope!

Amusingly there is a very large overlap in the companies that want to try to force ai tech crap onto their workers, but dont limit admin controls for users.

But to be more specific, what i meant by work-controlled is that you cant just install linux on a work machine or uninstall office products for alternatives due to company licensing.

Nothing preventing you from just not using that crap though of course but at that point you know your own company limits than i would so god speed!

Last thing you'd probably want to do is be forced into sitting in a class with Mr.MiddleManager / Mr.NepotismHire to go over why these AI products are actually good for you and they arent happy you circumvented that.

  • Notepad

  • Ah you are indeed correct. I'm probably thinking of classic paint, not notepad.

Either way, i have the downloader for ye old notepad and paint tucked away on and off my machine for future sake when my company middle management decides they want to try to push the new AI tools down our throats for productivity again.

  • Notepad

  • Yep precisely this.

Notepad is where stuff i dont care about 5minutes from now goes to die.

Notepad++ is stuff ill probably take to my grave, or at least til next week.

  • Notepad

  • For folks who cannot do this due to it being a work-controlled machine or otherwise, you can use notepad++. (Obviously id rather this be a tipping point to ditch all the junk at once, but sometimes that isnt feasible)

That said, i find i still need a throwaway notepad for fast trashy notes. In that case ive just uninstalled the new notepad and re-downloaded the legacy notepad then re-aimed "notepad.exe" to the legacy one.

There are a few guides out there, just search your standard "how to get legacy notepad"

  • I think there's an angle for people who wish they could take part in the good drawing too.

It's like that kid in school that would trace a really good drawing and then change the color a bit and say they did it themselves, but for adults. 'Aren't you happy i made it better?' Just equates to me as 'i want attention for the art too'

The sad part of course being that instead of even having the guile to pick up a utensil and trace it themselves, they just copy paste it to a program and become a middle man for downloading and uploading an image.

Setting aside the 'soul' of the drawing or how it appears visually, it's just sad to watch someone make a cheap facsimile of the thing you made at the cost of a few mouse clicks and making the climate a tiny bit worse.

    All that just for 'siel'

  • Sweet scribbles

  • This obviously may not be the case, but those scribbles may be an effort to cover up scars of past self-harm (or reclaim it), albeit yes quite shittily lol. Ive seen a few of those sadly.

  • Yeuuup. Gotta be able to turn the car 'off', and if the car is off (disconnected contact loop to engage the big battery) it cant receive the signal to turn on. (Connect the contactor to engage big battery)

So something has to always be on.

Which makes the big 'fuel' battery into a fancy alternator to keep the 12v/48v stuff on and running lol.

If you disconnect the tiny (in comparison) 48v battery from the main battery it wont charge and the car dies even if the big battery is fully charged.

Long story short, teslas fail to modern car problems but with the added bonus of failing to other dumb tesla-specific problems.

Seeing a heavy duty diesel tow truck haul a cybertruck is about as on-the-nose as you can get for the reason it sucks.

  • But aluminum is lighter AND stronger to help this 6600lb+ truck be fast and agile! A guy i paid to tell me I'm right made a graph which shows aluminum number is bigger! Those other truck manufacturers that have thousands of years of collective engineering experience are fools next to my brilliance.

He wasnt kidding when he said its straight from the cyberpunk genre. Pretty junk designed to fall apart sold by a corpo that doesn't care.
