  • I see, thx

  • What happened?

  • "Never got as good" is very very subjective though! I like Mozart's music but popularity doesn't always mean quality. There are albums made in the modern day that I love but are quite underappreciated by the general audience, for example... Not only that but Mozart started at a really young age that he was considered a prodigy, and his father was a composer who, after recognizing his talent, made him perform publicly and did tours then eventually performing for aristocrats, and he even started composing, and that was what consumed his childhood. Someone who "composed their whole lives" by the age of 20 to the extent that he did would be quite rare. Plus, nurture usually refers to being nurtured by a third party so why would it be about the composers not trying hard enough as if it is a personal failing? I guess those people who composed their whole lives technically didn't try hard enough at 6 to start performing and touring across Europe to showcase their skill?

While I do not discount that nature does have a contribution, I usually would like to adress nurture first than nature. For example, the current illiteracy crisis that is gripping my country the Philippines is not because our people are inherently stupid, it's because of a shitty education system, corruption issues and rampant poverty. The renovation that is being done to the library in our city hasn't been finished for years! Also, I was quite lucky to have a mother who read and kept books around the house when I was very young, and also unlucky that my childhood forced me to use books as an escape and a coping mechanism because it was the only thing I had. Unfortunately some people higher up in Education would believe I am inherently smart or whatever for having C2 at CEFR at a young age or being able to beat the Spelling Bee against the more advanced sections when I came from the regular section (because of the subpar quality of education in the regular section).

Idk I have seen so many instances of people running to Nature instead of examining the Nurture and miss actual solutions to the detriment of so many people, so I have become embittered with Nature over Nurture. Oh and btw, the effect of matching the mode of instruction to your Learning Style is minimal to none when you look at the research! The actual effective style involves timely feedback and repetition as well as higher standards (education has lowered its standards over the years). See, that's one example of a widely believed Nature over Nurture thing.

I apologize for the long rant, I have some strong feelings about education.

  • By believing that anyone with enough dedication can learn something, and that many of the greats (like Mozart) just had an early interest or were pressured in something so they had a headstart.

I remember someone said that you shouldn't be disappointed in yourself for learning the speaking/reading ability of a 9 year old in 4 years because it took 9 years for a 9 year old to learn the language lmao

  • Ironically it demonstrates what happens when something is too centralised

  • I used to be bullied hard in elementary for being neurodivergent and "living under a rock", and I did not know what was cool or uncool because I didn't have WiFi at home. To illustrate how ridiculous it was, I got bullied for playing Minecraft to the point that if I left my redstone blueprints on my table they would crumple it, and whenever I ate vegetables they would say, "ew vegetables!!!".

  • Except unlike emails who are the ones who are reaching out to you, you're the one who would have to engage with the youtube accounts. And reading is faster than watching.

It's rather annoying watching a video with an interesting premise from a channel that seems to have a lot of engagement and subscribers until you notice several minutes in that the content is full of filler and is generally just a waste of time, and of course when you check the channel is full of mass-generated videos. If there was a list we could just quickly check if something is already confirmed to be AI using the Find function rather than wasting time finding if it's legit or not. Even if the list is just those of the well-known ones who you are more likely to come across.

If there was such a project I would gladly contribute.

  • Why not try?

(Edit: Also why are people downvoting me when I'm not off-topic? 🤨)

  • I prefer Epubs, I use Eboox on Android. I personally like digital because there are times I have to stand on a bus and I can just read it with one hand as I use the other to hold on to the handgrips. Btw it can turn pages using volume keys. Also, they are inconspicuous if you're a person like me who might read books that some conservative people may raise eyebrows on.

  • From what I remember, in order

    Watching my mother cook

Begging my mother to allow me to handle a knife to cut vegetables or stir food. Also she taught me to crack/open eggs near the frying pan so it won't "break"

Getting into a Technology and Livelihood Cooking Class, the thing I remember that I haven't learned outside of that class is learning how to properly hold a knife and sharpen it, the various vegetable cuts and the effects of cuts on flavour, and using a toothpick to hold the shape of rolls

Reading a book called "Salt, Fat, Acid and Heat" as essential components of flavor. Helped me to stop making bland food lol because I used to be conservative with salt and fat and was making food that only tasted good to myself

Watching youtube videos of recipes and how to do stuff. The youtube videos helped me a lot

  • Thank you! Honestly I thought Java was one of the easiest as people said that it was... I don't really have a frame of reference honestly.

  • Thanks for your response!

Unfortunately for him, I am starting to get annoyed at being followed around. I am an introvert and I get easily irritated about certain stimuli, and another thing I dislike is people thinking of me in relation to someone and not as a person of my own, among other things. Recently someone asked me if I was his gf (as he was following me around) and that internally made me feel the bitterest or sourest of emotions. I also don't like the idea of playing an idealised role in someone's own self-narrative. For the sake of our friendship yes I probably should have to enforce distance. Instead of being worn down I feel like a ticking time bomb. Also I kinda feel bad for his friends cuz he's spending a lot of his time with me :(

Our current teacher is a bit more laid back and we didn't get any major projects. The thing is, is that she doesn't really give lectures during our time and instead tells us to watch her lecture videos and telling us what to study for the next quiz. Our credit hours for this subject is all Lab and no Lecture so I can sort of understand. Not all of my classmates have computers of their own so I guess another reason is to let the students develop their skills independently, and to pass their assignments using the computers. But yes, I also hate the way programming is taught. I personally would prefer an incremental approach at the beginning like short workbook style exercises. Isolating concepts and progressing into more complex implementations. As it stands programming classes start with our teachers making us stare at a huge program and expecting us to learn everything in bulk by analysing it.

Also... I remember watching a Developer roadmap video and at the bottom of the iceberg Philosophy and Math were mentioned :sob: I also do wish we had a class that outlines what programming is all about. Like what we should expect and its general philosophy. I did read that developers spend most of their time trying to think how to solve a problem than just typing code. I also noticed that some people lose self-esteem because of AI, because we as a society are so focused in the output rather than the internal process. We think that what a programmer is all about is producing code and not being a problem solver.

Tbh I feel like there's a difference between gaming and short form content. When you're a dedicated gamer you at some point would at least use your brain to solve problems. I mean, hopefully anyway. Some games that focus on grinding and idling are pretty low on the mental effort scale, but passively consuming content is literally on the bottom tier, even worse than watching television, to the point that I've been catching news of studios trying to get into short form movies where the episodes are like super short.

  • Hmm... I guess this is the best answer after all (Dual-booting). I just installed Windows 10 from my USB using Ventoy and I just realised that by dropping ISOs I could have a selection of distros that I could Live Boot. So I guess this also opens up a lot more possibilities!
