Most arguments for surveillance (and all authoritarianism) boil down to either saving the children or fighting an eternal enemy. Obviously OpenAI does surveil all its users, but the "for the children" argument would hurt their user numbers (I wanted to say it would hurt their profits, but they don't profit off of any user). Thus, it's "but China" instead.
No, it's when you post pro Stalin stuff on c/communism. Please don't engage in bad faith arguments like this.
It's just not believable.. so obviously fabrication for altman to show what a good boy he is
Okay, so you do believe it's a conspiracy between multiple parties to manufacture a lie to get onto CNN. That's just your position. No strawman needed.
I agree that Sam Altman is probably trying to deflect from all the (well-deserved) bad press he's getting right now... but if he was going to make up a story, it should have been closer to when he got caught helping teens kill themselves.
Or they live in the United States, where good healthcare doesn't exist, and the private sector is skirting regulations and stealing your data to offer you vastly inferior services.
There's a ton of "wellness" hardware and services that are being thrown at customers who are entirely clueless. But if the garbage service is something they can afford, and a trip to the hospital or something they can't, they might choose the garbage service.
It's a cult, I get it. Do you think that makes internationally harassing them okay?
How about the other four groups called "poison"?
People connected to the UFWD have been accused of harassing and intimidating activists and critics, largely from groups China defines as the “Five Poisons” – advocates for independence or greater freedom for Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, and followers of the banned spiritual movement Falun Gong.
Touche. It is interesting that in this case, the differentiation between "AI data center" and "non-AI data center" is almost as important a distinction between "bad chemicals" and "chemicals" in general. I was previously familiar with the harm of living close to a Bitcoin mining farm, but a conventional data center, not so much.
Block is a various serious company run by various serious people, and we should treat their staff reduction as an equally serious problem.
Block has made a contrarian bet on bitcoin at a time when many payment companies favored stablecoins: cash-like digital tokens that became regulated in the US last year.
Block’s strategy was spearheaded by Dorsey, a “bitcoin maximalist” who has said he believes the digital currency will eventually eclipse the dollar.
I think Dorsey left a Bluesky a long time ago. is Dorsey's social media of choice. He's obsessed with Bitcoin. They're obsessed with Bitcoin. He gave them a huge Bitcoin donation...
The topic of...LLMs? Because that's what this thread is. If you come in here and you start talking about something that's entirely unrelated to LLMs (what was that about red herrings?) I'll point it out.
And if it's based on Yudkowskism, all the more reason to call it out. You're aware of the sexual abuse and death Eli Yudkowski is either directly or indirectly responsible for, right?
This official didn't just expose state secrets. They were using ChatGPT in the dumbest way I can imagine:
ChatGPT served as a journal for the Chinese operative to keep track of the covert network, while much of the network’s content was generated by other tools and spread through social media accounts and websites.
A journal. A freaking journal.
From a chatbot that is known to change text on a whim.
