  • It was common a few generations back to have your teeth pulled and be fitted for dentures in your 30s.

The end of your natural life is always going to be gnarly.

There is a distinct concept between a "life span" and a "health span".

Nobody denies that there is a point in time that your health fails to the point where additional life comes with diminished returns. This is where right to die legislation becomes very important.

But, speaking in broad general statistical generalities, both lifespan and health span have been increasing. The gap has always existed. In short: people have always lived too long, as you put it.

  • These would be perfect for it.

Also it was one an extremely early adopter of using websites for books. It was such a wholesome time on the internet. You could spend like an hour downloading a 3 second WAV file where the author welcomed you to the website. Blew my fucking mind.

  • Oops

  • If they're saying their sexual relationship is strictly contingent on having their housing paid for by that person... They're 0 steps away.

No judgement. Sex work is work. But that's what the transaction here is.

  • On the flip side, anything worth doing is worth doing imperfectly.

100% of the population boycotting at 50% efficacy is much better than 1% of the population doing it PERFECTLY.

Never ever ever alienate or talk down to (or about) people who are acting in a way that is directionally correct, even if it doesn't meet your personal standard.

  • In a non paywalled article sounds like she was disappointed that the punchline for her character was just her teeth.

She didn't say that specifically (I think she said it was just lazy) but having watched the sketch, that's what I'm reading behind the lines.

I'd be pissed too. The sketch was otherwise really great at drawing parallels. Her character got a family guy level of joke.

  • I'm actually in awe of how textbook FUD this is.

Usually people are able to cloak it to make it more difficult to recognize it for what it is. No attempt made here.

Just being like "HMM I DON'T THINK SO"

  • Permanently Deleted

  • First of all: no judgement.

But familial relationships, of which marriage is, are what makes it nepotism.

So, I guess the missing piece is the relationship w/ the school your husband has. If he directly has any connection to the school... Or he's related to anyone with a direct relationship to the school...

Which, again, doesn't mean you're wrong for the job. Congratulations regardless.

  • If you've lost 8 times in a row, you're actually now betting 256x your original bet.

It's NOT a good strategy. Statistically it doesn't by any means whatsoever ensure you'll end up net positive.

It's called "Oscar's Grind" and there is a plethora of mathematics that show it is does not beat the house.

  • Good Lord, what is happening in there?

    Uh... Carrots?

Carrots? At this time of night?

    In this fog?

    At this distance?

Localized entirely around the island of England?

    ...yes

    May I try some?

    ..no

I know that the CTrain reminders to not forget your newspapers when leaving the train have been overwhelmingly successful because I haven't seen a newspaper on the train even one time in the last 10 years.
