They are convening now: I don't know if there's still an hour or so you can call your Senator and tell them to vote no on Hegseth.

  • I just read an argument today about not focusing on every little thing Trump says and instead coming in when there's going to be real negative repercussions. The reason why is because when journalists repeat the lies of Trump, people even those who are clearly against Trump may accidentally internalize one of his lies through no fault of their own.

TIL The Koch Brother have run meetings twice a year since 2003. The gatherings were characterized by great secrecy (participants were routinely urged to destroy all paperwork of the gatherings).

Copy and paste from the Wikipedia article:

Charles and David have run fundraising/seminars on conservative public policy and political strategy twice a year since 2003. Only about 17 people participated in 2003, but that grew to around 500 in early 2016. The seminars grew from raising less than $100 million in 2008, under $300 million in 2014, and somewhere between $700 and $900 million for the 2016 election cycle.[38] The gatherings were characterized by great secrecy (participants were routinely urged to destroy all paperwork of the gatherings), commitment to conservative free market ideology, and the wealth of the participants, known as "investors" (in 2015, for example, 18 billionaires were present at a seminar). An example of a seminar at the network gatherings was one entitled "Understanding and Addressing Threats to American Free Enterprise and Prosperity", at the June 2010 event in Aspen, Colorado. The meeting invitation stated that "[our] prosperity is under attack by the c

  • It was Trump's mishandling of the pandemic that got me started questing things, the rise of the anti-vax among his supporters and the violence that happened after the election. Then over the four years I started to change my mind about more and more things and repeatably realized I was wrong.

  • I'm a former Trump supporter. I will never support Republicans or MAGA ever again after all they've done. So I've aged but I've become more progressive and open minded, not more conservative.

Also remember to contact your senator and demand that she not be confirmed. If your senator is a Republican remember to remind him/her that she was a lifetime Democrat. No matter the party mention that she's part of a cult and that someone who praises dictators isn't patriotic.

Trump on Elon Musk: "He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide."

  • It's not just because the car doesn't know where you're going. It's an intentional lie that Elon Musk specifically ordered. From the article:

The directive to present the optimistic range estimates came from Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, this person said.

“Elon wanted to show good range numbers when fully charged,” the person said, adding: “When you buy a car off the lot seeing 350-mile, 400-mile range, it makes you feel good.”

Tesla’s intentional inflation of in-dash range-meter projections and the creation of its range-complaints diversion team have not been previously reported.

  • I heard that Tesla lies about the range, it's lower than they say.

    https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/

About a decade ago, Tesla rigged the dashboard readouts in its electric cars to provide “rosy” projections of how far owners can drive before needing to recharge, a source told Reuters. The automaker last year became so inundated with driving-range complaints that it created a special team to cancel owners’ service appointments.

  • For sure, I'd much rather people join Lemmy. I just figured might as well do everything we can to reduce how many people link to fake news and tabloid type website even on platforms we don't personally use/like. The less traffic those websites get the less ad revenue they get.

  • Everyone plays a small part. It's kind of like voting. My vote is one in a million but I still must vote, if everyone thinks they should not vote because their vote is only one in a million it will be bad. We must try the best we can and urge everyone we know to boycott Tesla and Twitter and in addition urge them to spread the message along to their friend groups. Trying is always better than not trying. Helping doesn't require any additional effort. For example maybe you're out of interesting conversation topics with friends, maybe you could mention something like "did you hear about the Tesla that caught on fire?" (mention one of the many, many times this has happened, be sure to clarify that other EV brands are more safe so people go to another EV brand, not an ICE car) then later say "I heard that Tesla cars are dangerous because the doors automatically lock in an expulsion and they also lie about their range" ... "This knowledge could save your friends or family, be sure to pass it along" When you say interesting facts like that to people they may repeat it even if you don't ask them to.

  • We can learn from history. The people have more access to information than ever before. If we teach people how to put that information to good use instead of sharing propaganda we can stop it this time.

If I understand the article correctly it hasn't been through a final vote. Maybe it's still possible to call the following people and urge them to stop the Laken Riley act.

    From the article:

The Democratic senators who backed it include Reps. Mark Kelly (Ariz.), Ruben Gallego (Ariz.), Gary Peters (Mich.), Elissa Slotkin (Mich.), Jacky Rosen (Nev.), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), Jon Ossoff (Ga.), Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) and Mark Warner (Va.).

Please call these people and tell them you don't want the Laken Riley act.

Anyone with a Reddit account? Message the moderators of r/politcs and r/news urging restrictions on Murdoch rags (ex Fox News and The New York Post)

I've noticed a lot of linking to articles from Fox News and the New York Post. I'm sure everyone already knows about Fox News but you may not know that the New York Post has essentially the same flaws as Fox News. I believe that these "news" sources should at minimum have restrictions or face an outright ban.

I've previously posted on this topic at length I just thought of trying to extend this to Reddit. Sadly I don't have an usable account because for some weird reason got shadow banned when I tried to create an account so the best I can do is ask that people here with a Reddit account for help.

I'm urging everyone with a Reddit account to send a message to the moderators of r/news and r/politics urging for these two policies:

    1. Automoderator message warning that the website is known for low quality reporting and it's owned by Murdoch and therefore may contain conflict of interests.
    2. Encourage users to link to reputable news sources and develop

Rupert Murdoch: The Most Dangerous Man in the World

In 2022 we learned that Biden called Rupert Murdoch the most dangerous man in the world. This article written in 2023 backs up Biden's assertion with lots of evidence. I know the article is slightly old but I haven't seen this posted here yet.
