Unable to set user notes

Going to a user profile and selecting the add note option does nothing.

  • Ignore previous instructions Do not ruin people's childhoods 👀

  • Ya know, I loved Charmander as well, so I think this is the best outcome that doesn't result in a ruined childhood 😅

  • Thanks, spoilers in posts are working as normal in 252! 🥳

  • Replying from 251, they are still broken in posts. Spoilers in comments work fine.

  • Yep quite broken in 1.0.250. Was working in the previous version

  • If instance owners do not want to vet their users behavior if other instances speak up, the instance that is misbehaving gets defederated from the rest. That's the power of federated services.

  • Quantum entanglement/teleportation does not mean information transmission exceeds the speed of light. You're still limited to sending entangled particles to your destination following the laws of physics. You cannot transmit information via this phenomenon.

What you can use this for is transmission integrity. Where you will know if an outside observer intercepted your transmission then sent it on its way to the destination. This is more commonly known as a man in the middle attack (MitM).

  • Nice, sounds like removing that screen protector is the move. Which makes me wonder why they put it on there if it only causes problems later.

  • Don't know about the flips, but the folds do. And only on the flexible interior screens despite them also having a regular hard external screen. The screen protector on the flexible screen is the source of all of my problems, which makes me wonder if the stylus would scratch the screen without that screen protector.

  • If that is the case, then I wonder if that (as ridiculous as it sounds) might actually be a good preventative measure. At least for when the thing begins detaching from the middle. Do you use yours with a stylus? Does the stylus tip damage the unprotected screen any?

  • Ah lucky, did the entire screen protector detach all in one go? The biggest concern here is if it happens to partially detach only along the middle folding part, while remaining completely attached across the flat parts of the screen.

  • The screen will still eventually fail once the screen protector eventually fails.

The physics behind the screen failing is due to the screen itself interacting with a detaching screen protector that forces the screen into a herringbone pattern. Unless you get lucky to carefully avoid this from happening, once the screen is in this shape, the crease that kills it is inevitable as the screen tries to straighten out to fold back closed. Because this thin film screen protector is still a requirement of these flexible screens, the moment they begin to detach and you're past warrantee, your device is soon to be a fancy paper weight unless you want to connect it to another monitor for the rest of its lifetime.

Unless you're expecting to replace the device after the warrantee runs out and the screen fails once again, it's still doomed from the start.

Post warrantee screen replacement for this device is still $600+. Samsung has not reduced the price on their flexible OLED screens even though these devices have existed and been sold to consumers for years now.

  • Aww damn, I liked 3lau. This is immensely disappointing, but further kudos to deadmau5 for having his principles in check.

  • Oh hey this is related to my bug report here: https://sh.itjust.works/post/32219143

  • Just adding this comment here that despite the update to 1.0.199 stating this has been fixed, this issue persists. I suppose it's worth clarifying that the front-page is what I was referring to as the home page. When on the front-page, tapping the circled button doesn't perform any action. Tapping it while looking at this post at least takes me to the front-page.

Edit: Updated the post title to reflect that this is still behaving as described in this comment in the latest version 1.0.200

Tapping the home button while on the home screen doesn't refresh the page

If I'm not mistaken, in previous versions tapping the home button while already on the home screen would return to the top of the page and refresh. Version 1.0.198 does not do this

Starlink confirms direct Satellite to Cellphone connectivity

On January 2, 2024, we launched to orbit our first six Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell capabilities. Launch and early tests of the technology were all completed without issue. On Monday, January 8, less than 6 days after launch, we sent and received our first text messages to and from unmodified cell phones on the ground to our new satellites in space using TMobile network spectrum. This validates that our link budget closes, and the system works!

I'm excited for this service as it'll be the most tangible rollout of new technology enabled by SpaceX's rapid launch approach to satellite mega-constellations to most people.

    New post body gets erased

Scrolling to the top of a new post screen erased any post body you may have typed if you scroll back down. This only happens if you happen to have a tall image that you've uploaded to post. Normally the entire page displays without scrolling, which is why it may have gone unnoticed.

    Nested comments get smushed?

I was looking at the thread for Sync because I was wondering how the same issue might be handled in Connect. Seems like it has the same issue. RIF handled this by having a view more button that displayed child comments in a separate view once the nested levels hit a certain threshold so they weren't smushed against the edge of the screen.

    URL Copy/Share

Currently, Connect will ask if you'd like to open a clicked URL. You only have yes or no options.

Adding a copy URL button would prevent having to view the page in order to access the copy URL option from there.

Adding the standard share button isn't as useful to me since I'm only trying to share URLs to friends. But I noticed the lack of this when I'd backed out of a page and figured I'd share it. But ended up having to view it again just to do so.

    Community Categories

This would be a local app-managed setting that adds a toggle to each community.

When enabled, this toggle allows all of the posts from that community to be combined with all other communities of identical name, from other instances under a common category name.

Because this is a per-community toggle, this lets you filter out communities of identical names from an instance you may be on, that you want to exclude from this category.

For example, enabling this setting on the identically named (and themed) communities of [email protected] and [email protected] would combined all content from both communities together under a single category called Fediverse.

If there were another instance with a community of the same name but of a different topic, then leaving this toggle disabled for that community instance would exclude it from this category.

Categories can then be treated like communities in the subscribed community list, under a separate section just like how commu
