I like the way Linux handles updates.
I like the way it handles privacy (opt-in instead of opt-out)
I like the fact that I'm never forced to do anything (going to windows 11, keeping bloat software, updates)
I like that it is light and quick.
I like to be able to choose a desktop environment and distro.
I like that it is open-source and I don't want to use US big tech corpo.
I like that it does not try to sell me anything.
I don't like not being able to play some games and printer setup.
If you can't run it locally Duck Ai and Lumo (proton) are probably the safest bet.
Knowing that duck ai still sends your prompts to OpenAi or other AI services through API but anomalously.
Otherwise you could set up an Ai service on a trusted cloud provider and run api request to it. I unfortunately don't know which would be good for privacy.
Welcome !
Quick tip: Google has a database of cell towers that helps getting a location quickly and helps starting the GPS connection even indoors.
You don't have that on GOS.
So when you use localization with organic maps, you'll notice it struggle to find you. You have to have a clear view to the sky to get a ping and then you can use it inside your car for example.
My goal is pretty simple : I don't want to give my data with big tech and gov for ideological reason more than for security but I don't want to use tools that makes me stand out like a sore thumb.
Mullvad has been recommended twice, I'll have a look and see if it fits my need.
Tails is probably an overkill for my threat model.
What I want is pretty simple, be able to reboot any computer (ex: work computer) on my USB live system and be able to access my files, my emails... Instead of having to connect to my proton account without VPN on a normal browser on Microsoft.
So I guess I only need an encrypted live system with any distro. Tails seemed to be the solution because it only writes to ram and purge ram before shutting down. I don't know if it's a nice to have or a must.
When I switched to Graphene a month ago, I was expecting to make a lot of concession for privacy, security and to get rid of Google.
But honestly, it just works great and while it is meant to be used without google, WhatsApp and all those spywares.
You still have the ability to use them if needed but sandboxed and in a different profile. It makes it so that the switch is easier and not a all or nothing.
The only thing I struggled with was using something else than Google Maps and Obtainium at first.
I tried but no one seems to appreciate my contributions.
