UK refuse workers confront government strikebreaking

Co-Chair of the Banking and Monetary Reform Committee, Kevin McCormick stated, "Using debt as a monetary device to advance sustainability is an inherent contradiction. The environment is not loan collateral and does not make regular monthly payments. Debtors and creditors are concerned with the imme...

Your logic has one critical flaw: you’re assuming the dollar will have any value in the future.
So you think society is gonna collapse?! lol
You also assume there will be electricity and an internet reliable enough to keep a Bitcoin network functional. If Trump triggers WW3 and you have to barter for food, your pretend electronic money will not be worth a damn if you can’t spend it and nobody can accept it.
Oh, you DO think society is gonna collapse. Sorry man, I know you want that to happen because you think it would be a tasty revenge on Trumpers. But it's not gonna happen. Society isn't gonna collapse anytime soon. Keep dreaming!
But hey, I don't give a shit if it does or not. I'm retired. I live on my own land. I farm and garden. I have several years back-up of everything. A rain collection system, live near creek. Guns, ammo, and everything I need. Wild game close by. Dried food supply for up to 2 years.. 3 if I wanted to reduce calories. (Mormon, so we are prepared. Satanist so I ain't scared of shit.)
So bring it on!
Still won't happen though. Short-term calamities like another pandemic can tho. I was prepared for the last one, too. I didn't lose a wink of sleep or change my routine at all during covid. I had a great time, and it was honestly one of the best times in my life. Me and fam, hung out, did whatever we wanted and never had to leave my land. It was awesome!!
And I'm all stocked back up from when I used my reserves during that time. :)
But WW3 and the end of the world brought on by Trump, that Lemmy so desperately wishes for so they can say "I told you so!" ain't gonna happen, friend.

I'm not fan of Trump, and I was too busy to get on that hype train. But if I would have jumped on, I would have bought a bunch in the morning. Then sold that night. Use the profit to buy bitcoin. I was actually planning to do that, but I was in vegas with my gf, and I had gambler fatigue. Tho I profited in Vegas too. I left about $3K ahead. So it was a good time.
I won't miss next one though! Cuz I'll follow thru on my strategy next time. lmao

When I buy Bitcoin, it's because I have faith that our government leaders will continue to make terrible financial decisions with our taxpayer dollars well into the future and no one will stop them
As much as I would like to believe that the economic destruction will one day reverse and common-sense will prevail -- ie. from global beaurocratic bloat (governments growing year-over-year and becoming increasingly less efficient), and ie. government decisions that prioritize immediate spending to transfer wealth from the public sector (our tax dollars) to private contracts (like military spending) -- I base my decisions on statistics and probabilities.
And the statistics say that what has happened over the last 55 years, since the debt snowball accelerated in the 1970s, it will continue well into the future, as this gigantic debt snowball continues to grow and speed-up in momentum.
At this point, it would take a miracle from God Himself to reverse the coming economic catastrophe, as no human or group individually anywhere on this planet has the ability to stop it.
Lacking group consensus and determined will, which is not there, I no longer believe this global economic situation is

Yes, I am asking you that question, and what does my name have to do with it. I don't understand

How are they suffering and dying? What makes this different than any other time?

CFPB likely to step back from crypto regulation — Attorney

but when I look around I see people everywhere fired up to fight for positive change, people who are existentially fed up with the status quo.
Yeah? So where were they when the election as going on?
I see people that don’t want to have to wait decades for a chance at bringing democracy back and are fighting in every way they can to stop the cruel conservative destruction of society and government happening all over the world, the US included (and chiefly responsible).
Yeah? So where were they when the election as going on?
I'm having a great time and I love watching what is going on.

No, the things I say, and the things people like me say will change things.
Yeah? And when is this change gonna happen? Lemmy users aren't gonna look up from their vid games long enough to make any change happen. They'll bitch about it on Lemmy. They'll downvote posts they don't like. They'll upvote all talk of a revolution.
But none of them will do it. There will be no change. Look around. lol

EDIT: Oh, it looks like you were banned here just now! Deserved.

Sure, but nothing you said is going to change anything. People are going to continue to gamble. And by cryptocoins. And listen to the U.S. Treasury Secretary. Regardless of how mad you are.
I totally support your right to your opinion. But the majority disagree with you.

Well, it's the U.S. Treasury Secretary. Not that you're wrong, but people have been saying that about Bitcoin for years.
I'm biased of course since bitcoin helped me retire early, but I don't think it's so much a "scam" as it is another form of gambling. Only buy as much as you can afford to lose if it all goes belly up.
But Bitcoin isn't really anymore of a scam than the stock market these days. Both are gambling. Both involve people richer than us. Both involve computers/ai. And both an help ya out if you are cautious, wise, and watch the market closely.
But I def paid off my house before I fucked around with any of it! lol

This is good news for bitcoin! And me. :)

Switch accounts from where? What are you even talking about?

Even better. I don't think community colleges get enough positive credit. But I love them.

Yeah, that's awesome for you! What school did you go to?

Yep, I was wondering if you were in tech. That seems to be a fairly common story in tech. Tho I heard that's changing for the upcoming generation of hiring.
I personally think it should just be based on experience. But I've talked my son into going to a low-cost school, and to do it without borrowing money, because I think the job market is getting more difficult these days.
I still don't agree with going to college if it means a shit-ton of debt though. Community colleges and low-cost pay as you go school is the way to do it.

I agree. But that's how the job market it going. I was pissed when it happened. But now I see it at as a good thing, cuz it spurred me to finish my degree. And I did it debt-free, so I'm happy about it. But man, at the time, I wanted to lose my mind. lol

Really? Can I ask why you think that?
To be honest, I thought that way my whole life, and for a long time, it worked. My career was built on the strength of my resume, interview skills, and experience—until about five years ago when I hit a huge roadblock. Suddenly, HR departments wouldn’t even consider me because I didn’t have a degree.
The real eye-opener came when a former boss—someone I had worked with before—wanted to hire me at her new company. She interviewed me, told me I was her top choice, and said she was excited to work with me again. The next day, she called to confirm her team had chosen me. But the day after that, she called back with bad news: HR and upper management refused to approve the hire because I didn’t have a degree—even though I had 15+ years of experience in the exact role.
So while I used to agree with the idea that a degree wasn’t necessary, I can’t say that anymore. My advice now? Go to college—but do it as inexpensively as possible. I went back and got my degree (from Pierpont Community and Technical College), and eventually, I was able to land a job with that same boss who couldn’t hire me before.
Maybe things are different in fields like programming, but in many industries, I’m seeing firsthand that a degree is becoming a non-negotiable requirement—regardless of skill or experience. I don’t agree with it, but that’s the reality.
I recently retired, and now I am going for my bachelor's degree. For no other reason that I just want it. :)

You guys are awesome and do such great work! Thank you!
