I'm a former IT Infrastructure Architect, now spending my time reading, writing and getting into too many hobbies.

If you wish to support my efforts, please send me a tip on Ko-fi

I am participating in FediWriMo this year. Click here for my BearTrack Profile / Stats.

  • I was more embarrassed that I hadn't subscribed... One of the problems I'm noticing is how some of the communities are categorized -- like this one is under "Things People Are Into" instead of something like "Hobbies" or "Writing".

  • Yes, there is a lot of wiki software - but most of that software isn't geared towards the Fediverse, and it would require that someone set it up, host it, administer it, etc. The whole management cycle for using another platform adds a complication to the Threadiverse concept of building Fediverse native communities.

But, with PieFed, Lemmy, Mbin and nodebb we are focused on building those communities. It makes sense to have something like a Wiki more tightly integrated into the community platform. That makes it easier to maintain from administrative standpoint, and from a management cycle perspective.

IMO - I'm not thinking that we should build MediaWiki into PieFed, but I think it could be a better complement to the community portion of the system.

  • Thanks for mentioning FediWriMo in your post. Sorry for the late response - don't know why, but I apparently hadn't subscribed.

  • I'd agree about the MVP status, but I also don't think you have to go too crazy with it.

Think about 3-5 features that would be most useful and work on them over a few versions. I'd bet some people will think of / suggest things you and I aren't thinking about. :)

  • It would be really cool if there were some way to do automatic page / index generation (ie, select all pages with a specific tag, or possibly a sectioned type system). IE, have the wiki generate it's own Table of Contents as an entry page...

But, that's not stuff that needs to be considered now.

    I'll create a Codeberg issue.

    Done: https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi/issues/1539

  • That's a key difference between what you and I are doing... I don't do repeating posts -- mine are manually generated.

  • Can't say I've seen this one -- and I've been using this feature heavily...

  • That's exactly the point - focus more on content and less on word count. But also, this tends to be more personal than about writing fiction.

I'm going to be posting a lengthy article about journaling that I am writing currently, along with the setup notes for TrackBear in the FediWriMo community later today, or possibly tomorrow.

And 72pt? Why so tiny? Go for 120pt or 240pt - you could type the word "and" and have three pages. 🤣 But all kidding aside, in the original post for this event I suggested for those using something like Obsidian or Notion (or any other non-paginating editor) they should probably use 300-350 words-per-page as a guideline.

  • Posted. :) Thanks.

  • Good idea... I've only been posting to communities that I have been able to reach out to mods first...I will check with them.

  • Yes, I noticed that with all the papers here -- there is quite the rabbit hole to explore.

  • Thanks! I glanced over this article - looks very detailed, and quite interesting.

  • This is an excellent list of articles. Thank you very much!

It indeed appears the rabbit hole is deep on this topic...

  • I haven't used sar in over 10 years. I used to use it to monitor resource usage of jobs that I was running while I was at work. Now that I look back, I was using isag (no longer maintained) to generate reports for me.

I would think it should be possible to package ksar in an appimage or docker container - but I don't know if one exists.

But - there is a newer option:

    sadf -g your_datafile [ -- sar_options ] > output.svg

This is part of the sysstat package - no need to install anything else, and no java. sadf allows you to make graphs that you can view in your browser. Check the man file for sadf for more information. (Can't comment any further on this since I haven't used it.)

  • Surprised nobody answered this...

I think he's a smart person with very progressive ideas. I think he has the charm and wit to win over a lot of people (hell, he just got Trump to be cheerful about being called a fascist).

However, I think there is going to be a reality check when he tries to actually implement many of the policies that he ran on. He will probably get some of them enacted, but he will face a lot of resistance in getting the major ones passed.

  • I think the mistake is assuming they actually hold all of those beliefs.

Umm, more like any beliefs. Well, okay, they do hold the belief in their expanding pocketbooks.
