I'm a former IT Infrastructure Architect, now spending my time reading, writing and getting into too many hobbies.

If you wish to support my efforts, please send me a tip on Ko-fi

I am participating in FediWriMo this year. Click here for my BearTrack Profile / Stats.

  • Wow - lue looks pretty cool.

  • I'm assuming it's some kind of chinese nib. I haven't been able to remove the hood -- don't think it comes off. But it's a surprisingly good writer... No railroading, no hard starts or skips. The ink just flows -- as it should.

  • Very nice... Don't think I could attain that level of consistency and precision without using a computer or a stencil. :)

  • Interesting. Not really familiar with this style of pen. Definitely see where reservoir refillable pens with a range of tips sizes is really great for artists and engineers.

  • He is mostly retired these days. He sold some of his older equipment some years back (like one of the B3's he used in the '70s)... Apparently he recently had surgery and is at home recovering. Also, he's doing a podcast now chatting about random stuff from throughout his whole career.

This whole thing started last night because I was curious if anyone knew if George Gershwin used a fountain pen... Apparently it's not known for George, but apparently there is a fountain pen that belonged to Ira in the collection at the Library of Congress. (Oh, and there is a picture of Ira with a fountain pen -- and it's not a Montblanc.)

While I was digging around for information about Ira, I found Rick's name in a list... So I searched some more and found the Daily Mail article, and the item I quoted from the Fan Club newsletter.

  • Could be both? 😆

  • What do you mean with even though it has that nib? Did you expect it not to be a good writer because of the nib?

A vintage version of this would have had a gold nib. So, when I bought the recreation I wanted to get a gold nib, but they have been out of stock for quite some time. And, I suspect gold nibs are going to remain more expensive. (Although, I did notice last night that the price of Pelikan's has started to come down a bit.)

  • Exactly - both the cap and nib are blurred... And it's not just this pen, there were others I looked at where they did the same thing.... 😆

  • Um, no, this is a cheap Chinese knock off - not something reputable like a Visconti, Waterman, Kaweco, etc. on the site you reference.

  • Sorry to start a new branch, but I tried something else... I tried installing Astro -- and it has the same issue: failing to get snacks.nvim installed.

Given that this is happening with two packages, I can't help but think there is something weird with the snacks repository. I am getting everything else cloned and installed without issue.

(And, before someone asks..... I 100% nuked: ~/.config/nvim, ~/.local/share/nvim, ~/.local/state/nvim, and ~/.cache/nvim -- so everything was clean when I tried the install.)

  • Nope - 700G free.

  • I've done it clean (without the directory) and get the same result.

Interestingly, in chatting with someone else, they referenced a stackoverflow post that mentioned doing a git checkout HEAD, which I did and resulted in a clean repository. But, Lazy keeps trying to re-clone the repository and comes up with the same error everytime.

  • So, I ran the git status and it came up with 282 files to delete:

Then I run the git restore and it says nothing:

And when I restart Neovim, it starts cloning the repo again, and ends right back at the same error "Clone succeeded, but checkout failed".

  • Thanks Libb!

  • Yup, and the article (Ranked: The Best-Selling Video Games Since 2020} that was published using that data mis-represents it:

This visualization ranks the best-selling video games from 2020 to 2025 based on global unit sales using data from Video Game Sales Wiki (Fandom).

IMO - I find the "Visual Capitalist" site to be a questionable source of information... There are quite a few red flags when it comes to that site.

  • Oh, I get it...but my point is not everyone will get it, and the information is inaccurate. Sorry you can't understand that data presentation isn't just about gamers...it's a much larger issue these days... And this is just a really good example of it being handled badly.

  • There's nothing about this that says "Best-Selling Video Games Released Between 2020-2025".

And, the tagline "Where Data Tells The Story" really means they should be explaining exactly the data they are presenting. Accurate framing is every bit as important as the information... You can't assume that two people looking at the same piece of information are going to interpret it the same way unless it is properly framed and presented.

  • Not saying it isn't...but we don't need to have MediaWiki in PieFed. 😀
