  • Lets put it this way: in the 60s, a photo was not a simple or common thing. Only a few people had a camera at hand, and films could only take 20 to 30 pictures, so they were used sparingly. Still, many UFO pictures date from back then.

Nowadays, everyone has a camera on person, and you can do thousands of pictures in a row. There are millions of recording video surveillance cameras everywhere. So if UFOs exist, there should be myriads of pictures and recordings, many of which in top notch quality, where you could read the labels on the little green mens console buttons.

So far, they remain to be seen.

  • Basically Powells quasi-independence from Trump is one of the last strands of hair that gives the US Dollar credibility.

Replace him by just another MAGA brain, and the Dollar will be losing trust like a sieve loses water.

  • As a student, I heard scratching noises behind the drywall over my bed. Assuming it were mice, I got some mouse traps and set them up in the attic. No success, although the bait did vanish.

So I took a better light with me and found a wasps nest between the roof tiles and the plasterboard.

Borrowed a large bottle of pressurized CO2 and froze those suckers to death.

  • The key question is what they are doing about memory access. The more processors they have, the bigger the problem of cache coherency gets, and memory has always been the bottleneck of Intel and AMD processors since Pentium is memory access.

  • We once sold a battery operated device, with the battery pack substantially bigger than that of a cell phone or even a laptop. When I cleaned out the last development samples, two of them were seriously blown up. They immediately went outside.

And just a few days ago I saw a video from China where an ebike battery blew up while charging in the families living room. Now that was serious fireworks...

Wrote my first longer Python program

Sounds easy? Well, it should have been. I'm not talking about a "Hello, World!" (although it is more or less on the same level for me). The goal was to write a set of three MQTT clients that properly talk with each other and interact nicely.

So I had to learn Python and MQTT on the same day. Should not be an issue after 40 years of programming. But it quickly turned out that the Python library/package for MQTT on Ubuntu was heavily outdated (1.6), and did not supply all the functions the documentation and examples (2.0) asked for. Using pip3 didn't work, as it complained that the package structure was maintained by the OS. In the end, I had to virtualize the python3 system and pip3 the 2.0 package there and run it.

After about three hours, I had the clients working as they should. Yes, I think MQTT is a good base for the next project.
