  • Some of the boards use a system called tripcodes, which are essentially a username and password in one that are used when writing individual posts. It allows people to prove that they're the same person across multiple posts, without anything as identifying as a user profile attached.

  • Reddit, at least the corporation and increasingly the userbase, is definitely in the process of shifting to the right. Lemmy is the kind of alternative social media the person you're replying to is advocating.

  • 90s rule

  • Look, I just liked the tax part, that's why I voted for it. More housing would be fantastic, but for now I take solace in the fact that it passing made a lot of people unhappy.

  • Technology is one of the most politically charged topics possible. Even leaving aside big tech and AI stuff, you have the ideologues behind the open source movement, or the fact that a lot of our modern tech infrastructure is built on conflict resources and manufactured by forced labor. Politics ripple through every aspect of our lives.

  • That is a wild leap to make. Just mind boggling. Dogs are not people, and people are not dogs. If that were not the case, a lot of the behavior and culture around dogs would be alarming, at best.
