"Why should I trust a bunch of randos with it? Why should I give them my password? […]"
lol that right there you should respond no one should have your PASSWORD (singular) to begin with. Companies large and small have data breaches all the time. If the same password is on more than 5-10 sites, you should assume it's been compromised by now, and explain that they need a password manager.
Far as it goes with professional companies, we are talking public posting social media, the differences between them are all public, the biggest thing is what they chose to censor. Twitters cool with letting nazi's speak, but censoring the left. Most lemmy instances are the opposite, but there even are lemmy instances that are backwards with that.. which is the point. We all have differing oppinions on where the line should be drawn on acceptable speech, Being able to custom pick one of 50 groups is more likely to find one that works for you, than picking one of 3 social media giants that will have their own rules.
Only if he admits that a mistake was made. Doesn't matter if it's his own, trumps or any other members still in the inner circle... as long as everyone keeps sticking to the "witch hunt", "nothing happened" approach
Have to say the same... kind of better to go to many sources...
Now if we are talking people like Kyle etc... IMO he does fairly well, but yeah as with all news sources, get a wide variety of sources, because all sources have something that make them worse.
I don't exactly see how "talk to your representative" is really useful advice. I mean write, call and do whatever you can to try and influence them... but it's worth noting depending on where you live, whether your representative is going to be honest with you, or give a shit what you have to say, are absolutely variables.
I mean the vague direction he's going is, if birthrates go down, life expectency goes up, then social security as is has a finite point it can reach.
Of course that's mainly ignoring the greatest problem with social security... is basically the cap on earnings... IE he pays the same into it as someone making 168,600. We fix that and it basically solves itself. But the reality is that's the part he finds "intollerable", the idea that at the rate things are going, people like him might one day have to put a negligable portion of their fortune to keep millions of senior citizens out of poverty.
IMO I doubt there's actually theft of the savings... there's some real chaos. but the savings numbers are all made up with no tie to reality. Moneys not stolen, because the savings were never real... dude's managing to shut down half the functions of the government, lay off hundreds of thousands of people... and failing to reduce costs in the process.
Exactly, brought back as quickly as we can bring back people who are sent there by mistake.
finding this post through my selfhosted freshrss server :). absolute game changer both for convenience and managment of everything.
I think all of congress should be required to go to El Salvadore, as well as trump and all of his cabinet.
Anyone who thinks things are fine there, should have to stay there for one week... then be brought back ASAP.
yes because the right to not raise a kid you can't afford, is a rich people problem not an average Joe problem.
Agreed, even with a time machine... secret service would make it quite difficult. Obviously the morality of killing baby hitler is always a thing.
Really though more morally though you probably could prevent most politicians from being politicians non lethally. Break into the hospital, swap him with another baby. It's a combination of nature and nurture so... if you change the upbringing, he probably won't wind up president.
Well I mean a lot could... George H Bush failed to be popular enough for re-election, so really it's a total shift in everything, and possibly effectiveness of what gets implimented.
The problem with carville and these "left" people... is that the party HAS BEEN distancing themselves. They have been avoiding talking about the topics unless specifically asked. The problem is the right makes it their pillar, so the media specifically asks them. Leaving candidates with the choice of "express support in peoples rights to be themselves" or "oppose their rights to be themselves".
The right won't leave the option to "distance", because they will make sure it's brought up every debate every situation.
Which... would on further notice say... we only know about failures... so yeah any agents in appropriate locations or VPNs using correct credentials would be effectively undetectable.
My point is more or less the already partially existing human controlled drones, though also noting the possibility of say the next wave where they don't go past just getting a target and committing assassinations.
Point is the idea of specific targetted (IE concepts of weapons that could be as precise, as undamaging towards infrastructure as foot soldiers with guns, but without requiring humans that are at least vulnerable to conventional weaponry.
I mean the general problem is what I'd note as what syndrome's plan was in the incredibles.
IE syndrome's plan was basically to create superpowers, making everyone a superhero so that no one is special or above everything...
with the noted exception that the strongest superpowers are reserved for himself.
Biggest thing IMO with the gun rights people is... noting that even if we all have AR-15s or whatever the hell we are supposed to use to stop facism. Millitary tech is getting scarrier. We're probably a year or 2 away from armed boston dynamic style robots, or more focused AI based drones etc....
Our only shot is guys controlling the governments arsenal taking our side.... which is kind of the exact scenerio we are in with or without guns.
I disagree, I think there's plenty of court orders trump could do to test the waters without... well the undeniable fascism that is putting an innocent legal immigrant in a prison forever.
To me there's only 2 reasons not to bring him back... either it's actually impossible (IE he's dead), or he's seen and lived through some conditions that are drastically worse than we know, and they don't want him to talk.
Honestly, my money says probably not. It's quite frankly the best explanation for the solid stubornness of the trump admin. They've basically admitted he shouldn't be there. He's ignoring court orders, and now supreme court orders. The only 2 explanations I can come up with for why they don't want him back is.
- The conditions of the prison are significantly worse than our imaginations have allowed us to think they are, and they don't want him to confirm that.
- Same as 1, but his corpse rather than his words would be the testament to how bad they are.
Any other scenerio to me seems like the political views here would be so overwhelmingly bad that leaving the confirmed innocent man in prison and defying court orders overwhelms any possible reason not to bring him back.
Logically, in a world where the federal government faces due process. What happens if trump moves to ship him to El Salvador, and see's if he can convince them to execute him.
Yeah was going to say, there's certainly aversion to tech that can be paralleled assuming AI has a positive future state. But yeah, WIFI, Cellphones, television, radio waves, all things people feared without propor understanding, that are now standard parts of reality.
If hypothetically AI etc... gets close to actual sentience, artificial life may begin the culture war of attempting for personhood, fight for rights etc... in which case there will be a discussion, and assuming like all past personhood battles in the end AI is decided to have reached actual status of living... then yes those who are late to the bandwaggon and continuing to fight will be viewed just like our racists homophobes etc... But there is very little evidence that any current day AI has anything resembling feelings, wants desires etc... and just because this may be the predicessor to an AI that will. doesn't make hating chatgpt any worse than hating a doorbell.
Hell if somehow we were to discover say chatgpt actually has sentience right now in it's current used form... no one could be favorable in the current view, as even the staunchest supporters of AI, are only looking at it as slave work etc... There's not even room or a case for letting AI's be free for life, liberty and the pursuit of happyness (which, is because with our understandings none of those are applicable to it).
I mean pretty sure winrar runs just fine on WINE.
Though perhaps it's about seeing how many years into the 40 day trial you can go.

Simple music playing concept
Hey everyone.
I have my homeassistant setup. Something I'm looking to do is a simple alarm clock, slowly turning up my LED strip, and gradually say turning on music in 1% increments. But I really haven't had much luck coming up with a not silly $100 + system to, just have a music player that hass can control. I have a basic bottom line tablet in our bedroom set up as a home assistant dashboard. we have a paid spotify account.
But I'm kind of losing my head trying to wrap around exactly what or how to actually get a controllable system. that can be set up in my bedroom without any costly additions to my bedroom. We have plenty of bluetooth speakers, but to my knowledge all of them require actually turning them on manually if they weren't playing music before. Which kind of negates their value for an alarm clock.
