Scale 22.12.4.2 Release | Hotpatch for Core to Scale Migration

Key Highlight:

This is a hotpatch to fix an issue that prevents some TrueNAS CORE systems from migrating to SCALE 22.12.4.1:

  • NAS-124623 - error with home directory handling on migration from TrueNAS CORE.

Note under 22.12.4.2:

If you encountered this issue when attempting to migrate from TrueNAS CORE to SCALE 22.12.4.1, run the command mkdir /home in the TrueNAS CORE web interface shell and re-apply the upgrade.

Otherwise, users that intend to migrate from TrueNAS CORE to SCALE 22.12 (Bluefin) can directly migrate to the 22.12.4.2 hotfix release to avoid this issue.

Scale 22.12.4.1 Release | Small Hotpatch & Security Update

Key Highlights:

This is a small hotpatch designed to address a reported bug from the 22.12.4 release and updates Samba to the v4.17.12 security update:

EDIT UPDATE:

Known Issue: An issue was found after 22.12.4.1 was released that disrupts migrations from CORE to SCALE 22.12.4.1 due to how the /home directory is handled during the update process (NAS-124623).

Scale 22.12.3.3 Release | Small Hotpatch

Apologies for delay on this post, my notification's bot for TrueNAS crashed.

Key Highlights:

This is a small hotpatch to address a ZFS issue that appears in specific circumstances with encrypted ZFS replication tasks. When the replication source system is updated to SCALE 22.12.3, a mismatch in indirect block size (IBS) values can cause kernel panics when an encrypted replication task attempts to receive ZFS snapshots to the destination system. See OpenZFS 2.1 Pull Request #15073 for more details.

Users are encouraged to update any TrueNAS SCALE system used as a replication source or destination to 22.12.3.3 to avoid this issue. It is also recommended to update any ZFS-based systems currently used as a replication destination.

22.12.3.3 Changelog

  • NAS-122583 Crash on ZFS replication receive with different indirect block size
  • Have you confirmed if qBit deploys properly without a VPN enable? If so, you could go into qBit without the vpn and try disabling the "Use UPnP / NAT-PMP port forwarding from my router" in Tools > Options > Connection, then try deploying it again.

  • Hmm… are you using the community version of Tailscale? Since, I've never had to enable host networking for any of my apps, and I've been able to access all of them through Truecharts Tailscale app while still retaining access to my SMB shares. Also, this may sound silly, but have you double-checked your routes in the Tailscale app?

  • After looking around, you might be facing an issue with Flatpak permissions. Here's a comment I found on Reddit created by u/avamk where they solved the same issue.

All right, after much trying I installed Flatseal and enabled the Firefox Flatpak's access to my home folder.

After this, it created the expected profile folder under ~/.mozilla/firefox/. I put my custom userChrome.css into that profile folder, and >enabled it in my about:config under toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets per these instructions.

With all of these, the custom userChrome.css is finally working!

  • Nice! Glad to hear you got it solved.

  • Usually when I update it takes no more than 5 minutes max, although I've never timed the reboot process. Note, it's going to depend on your hardware. I'd say, though, if it's been a decent amount of time, and you haven't gotten any sign of it responding (after pinging it, checking the systems' indicator lights, etc.), I'd probably plug a monitor into it and reboot the machine.

  • I'd love to read your explanation for each distro's ranking.

  • No, slow transfer speeds should not outright stop an app from functioning.

  • No worries, also to note there may be multiple pods as well as containers, so be sure to check those as well. Although, you can get a pretty good hint at which container is failing based on the application events log that you can first see when you click on the app.

I wanted to provide some screenshots in my last reply, but I was getting an error while trying to upload them, hopefully some of these might help to guide you.

    For Application Events:

    Example of Multiple Pods:

  • As someone else has pointed out, it really depends on your use case. Although I personally keep my drives (SSD & HDD) in a redundant RAID configuration as my data is largely mission-critical.

  • The Scale apps documentation, containing a couple of guides for a small set of apps.

    https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/scaletutorials/apps/

The app repository for the official apps.

    https://github.com/truenas/charts

Also I highly recommend using Truecharts app catalog. They have an extensive list of apps available, and the support on their discord is excellent, in my opinion, although they also appear to be lacking in the documentation department mostly.

  • From the logs you've provided, it appears the MariaDB server indicated a normal shutdown process without providing a specific reason for the shutdown initiation. So I'm assuming within your app it's running multiple containers, would you be able to provide the log of the container that is running into an error that's causing your app to call the shutdowns.

  • What do the app logs say?

  • What type of issues are you running into specifically, because while you may face some slow-downs if your system can't handle the load, you should still be able to spin up multiple apps. If you're just noticing a slow-down of one of your apps, you could try upping the limit in the resource limits section in the app.

Scale 22.12.3.2 Release | Small Hotpatch

    Key Highlights:

This is a small hotpatch to prevent an edge-case issue from occurring when Active Directory is faulted on High Availability (HA) systems.

    22.12.3.2 Changelog

    • NAS-122689 Prevent database replication when alembic versions do not match
    • NAS-122693 Allow sysdataset move if AD is faulted

    My Daily

  • Not OP, but I also use flat keycaps, so I thought I'd chime in. I'm not really sure why your hands would hurt with flat keycaps, but one of the reasons I chose to use flats were to allow for easier chording with Plover.

  • Currently, none. I used to use Netflix, Prime video and Spotify, but when they started removing some of my favorite content I went fully local.

  • Not that I'd recommend doing this, but back when I was younger, I had the not so bright idea that I could go to work come home, game the whole night, then go back to work. It was a terrible idea in hindsight, but I used to it a lot. To achieve this, I used to mix energy drinks and pre-workout to stay awake, and I'd drink it as though I was drinking water, so I ended up drinking a butt load. I just want to stress again though that I'd never recommend actually doing this though unless as a last resort, but even then I'd caution away from it. I get there are times when one feels they absolutely must stay awake, God knows the amount of times I accidentally slept through something, and ruined relationships, but as others have said planning is probably the issue you're facing.

  • I use Firefox on both desktop and mobile and don't have any issues.

  • This what you're looking for?

  • If you want to self-host Lemmy you can just use this easy install script, just make sure to modify the config file to suite your setup it's only a couple variables, and it's pretty self-explanatory. https://github.com/ubergeek77/Lemmy-Easy-Deploy

Scale 22.12.3 Release | Important issue discovered in this release

Little late on posting this since it was released on the 06/13/23, but better late then never.

    Key Highlights:

22.12.3 includes many new features and improved functionality that span new applications for deprecated services, change to SMB service, additional tools for troubleshooting, and web UI improvements. Changes include:

    • New applications for deprecated SCALE services Dynamic DNS, TFTP, OpenVPN, WebDAV, rsync daemon, and S3 MinIO.
    • Multichannel capabilities added to the SMB configuration form
    • Updates to the Dashboard R50 image
    • Updates to the latest Linux v5.15 kernel branch
    • Update Samba to 4.17.8

This release fixes a bug with dataset encryption where it was possible to create an encrypted storage pool or dataset and unencrypted datasets within that pool or dataset. Beginning with 22.12.3, it is no longer possible to create an unencrypted dataset when the storage pool or dataset is created with encryption active. Datasets created in this manner are not affected b

    This Facebook?

When I first saw this community I though it was related to Facebook and completely ignored it. Did anyone else do the same, and is there a way to make it more clear to new users and or is there currently something in place that I just completely missed that points it out?
