dang I'd really have to travel to make it.... hopefully they'll keep touring....

  • Respect for those albums that have story arcs, even if the songs don't make them immediately obvious.

The Crisis of Existence is the third and final chapter for Lunacy. The Future, which as a full length element and album for LUNACY makes sense as a finality; there is an exclamation point to this long ended journey. The shadow figure has been through hell and back, battling its own demons and fighting for survival alone and together as one.

‘Frozen In Time’ sets the tone where Lunacy left off, this is the transportation and unveiling of the future self, the phoenix rising from the ashes, the snake shedding its skin. Ritualistically lunacy is teleported to a place of transformation where the figure must sacrifice the past and present to move forward towards the future.

lel the writing in those paragraphs is kinda weird tho.

  • Yeah I bet the mom is a large part of the reason Vlad turned out self-confident instead of broken-down.

  • OMG that's awesome. Say hello to next week's meme:

  • Of course, people do love categorizing things and putting everything into its own little box, so we get these sub-sub-niches.

Specifically, building taxonomies seems like a Victorian-era thing.

  • I recently got to go to Rio de Janeiro, which has been a long-time dream of mine

Hey, that's awesome. I've never been, but heard it's a really interesting place.

  • Why are y'all downvoting the mfer? This is a "rant" community, and they're ranting. It's a worthwhile perspective to hear. Sure, they should spend their time making this a better place instead of pining over the corporate cesspool that's written them off, but that's a perspective you can upvote in comments.

  • I swear, if Piefed ... ever does something where it integrates crossposts… I’m jumping ship.

Piefed currently integrates crossposts. Prepare to abandon ship!

  • "Dolemite is my Name" is great because it talks about the roots of the Dolemite movies: people hanging out and telling outrageous stories, then other people taking those stories and refining them and using them to make entertaining movies. This subtly attacks the term "blaxploitation" because (as Fred Williamson and Michael Jai White and others point out ) it's a belittling term and there's usually no exploitation, just people doing their best to entertain.

And "The Human Tornado" is one hell of an entertaining movie. Often it is offensive or outrageous or uncomfortable but there are maybe five minutes total where the movie "slows down" and usually those involve scenes of people hanging out and talking and having a good time -- which is entertaining in its own way. The rest of the time people are fighting or dancing or playing songs or cracking stand-up quality jokes or cucking the sheriff or throwing grenades in torture dungeons or stripping down and doing nunchucks wearing nothing but a speedo or crawling out of boxes to have sex on a set of oversized blocks that spell out "BED" - all of that and more is in the movie, rapid-fire, with barely a pause to hang out and laugh about it. It really is a Tornado of a movie.

  • yeah my fave is the cat skull

  • Yeah this reviewer tells it right, I saw this movie like a month ago but can't remember anything about it...

  • Most people would rather do the least effort to preserve their sense of being a good person.

Well, it's like that Occam's Razor, right? It's simpler to believe: "I don't like it because of (excuse)" instead of "Some of my fundamental beliefs are completely wrong and I need to re-examine them." Such a person may feel that this is not quite the full story, but are all our thoughts completely examined? It's not necessarily malicious to say: I've figured this out 'well enough' for now, and I can move on to something else.

This is an important distinction because then to tell such a person that they're "bad" or that they "hate" is completely meaningless to them. They don't consciously hate, they just adopt oppressive philosophies and they've never needed to examine them.

  • but... but... Bluesky is owned by a public benefit corporation! That means it's good, right?

That doesn't mean it's good. For example, OpenAI is a public benefit corporation.

  • This is interesting. I feel like people are allowed to say “I don’t think women should lead”. They just don’t like the consequences of having that opinion. They want to say something cruel or afactual without anyone uninviting them from parties.

I agree, but would add that in some cases it's a little more subtle than that. A fair number of people are fundamentally sexist but feel uncomfortable within themselves about their beliefs, so:

    • see something that goes against a belief
    • feel revulsion
    • subconsciously realize their belief contradicts other (more charitable) beliefs that they themselves hold
    • seek another reason for feeling that revulsion
