They would not sell (nor profit) something that people refuse to buy.
So they are wasting money on hiring advertising and marketing companies?
Then there's also planned obsolescence and licensing deals that make it impossible to continue using and repairing things (even mechanical things like tractors, and living organisms like crop seeds).
Sure, people can try their best, but there is only so far we can go before it gets so inconvenient to not fall into the consumerism trap.
I actually do not alienate, but I do criticize when necessary.
I have a close relative who took the red pill and is all in on the manosphere. Sometimes he sends me, and I'm not even kidding, 30 messages in a day about all the manosphere content he watches; but we still hang out and talk. I don't comment on everything he sends me if it is something we have already debated over. If it is something different or something I find to be egregious, I do call him out on it.
To be fair, some days are harder than others to hear his bullshit, and I take a break and mute his messages for a while. I feel overall I still value him as a person and it is important to interact with him. However, I can also empathize with those that want nothing to do with someone who holds those opinions.
True, but that doesn't excuse that he promotes behaviors and thought patterns which reinforces reasons why people have certain attitudes towards men.
Or maybe if there were less young boys listening to Andrew Tate there wouldn't be that attitude towards men?
As a matter of fact, you did

I am a paid user of Tuta and I have never seen any ads. Where did you see them and what kind of ads?
Me too! I am truly part of the lemmy community now.
The water is tested and 99% of the time it is probably safe to drink. But who knows how much of it you will drink before it is discovered (and then even longer to reveal) that there was an issue with the water.
Where I live has heavy agriculture and oil industry presence. People here are concerned over pesticides and random chemicals randomly seeping into the water system.
It's sad that people have to consider that even more, now
LoFiGirl definitely needs to chill, she is working 24/7/365

Yeah, what is the key verifier thing? It's not like it's Windows and needs a purchased license key, right?
Windows doesn't "just work"
That sucks about your friend. I can relate.
Scammers hacked my elderly mother on her windows laptop. They tricked her with an ad saying there was a problem with her computer, and they had her install remote access software. She mentioned seeing the terminal so I assumed they installed (at least) a keylogger. Luckily, they either ran out of time, or their con took two days, but they said they were going to call my mom the next day and have her log in to the bank to make sure her computer was still working.
So, I wiped her computer and installed Linux Mint with auto updates set up. She only had one simple question about logging in to google chrome and that's been it for the last month. She has just been using it no problem.
Side note: The next day the scammers had the nerve to call my mom and ask her why her computer was turned off.

To be fair, the blue one just said it would burn if touched, but did not define that burning meant pain and suffering.
I think the same could be said about politics too. We call it fascism, but don't actually define the everyday pain points someone would experience under fascism.
that doesn't seem unfortunate at all.
more than likely it was the two emails in the gmail app
Welcome to a world outside of enshittification!
I guess it is true: You either die a hero, or live long enough to become shitty.

A Website keeping forgotten books alive
www.NeglectedBooks.com: Where forgotten books are remembered
I came across this website that focuses on highlighting books that are out if print but still worthy of reading, if you can find them. The most recent post (Feb. 29 2024) talks about the various reasons books become neglected.
One man makes the case that Americans' pursuit of abundant parking is upending our cities and our lives.
This part of the article was the really infuriating part to me:
"In fact, his research shows that by square footage, there is more housing for each car in this country than there is housing for each person. In 2016, Bloomberg reported that there were more three-car garages being built than one-bedroom apartments."
