I am a (recently) former school board member of my district in MI and personally reviewed the compensation packages for our staff.

While I agree with the assessment of zero tolerance policies, there isn't a soul in our entire school district that is making 6 figures. Most of the faculty in our district are barely scraping by because the voters believe this collective delusion that schools have more money than god and are full of wasteful spending. For what it's worth, my congress cretin is loving polishing trump's asshole and ceding away congressional oversight to the executive branch. At a town hall lady week, he said that the DOGE department was always DOGE, they just changed the acronym (wat?!) and it was always under the executive branch, not an independent federal agency.

I've thought for a while that road patrol was the laziest form of policing. This is compounded with the supreme court codifying that cops don't have to know the laws they are enforcing and thereby allowed to make up probable cause. Combine that with the "us vs. them" mentality that is both heavily promoted in training, and is the character trait drawn to police work, and it's like a perfect storm of shitty outcomes.
I like the idea of getting rid of traffic cops and actually doing real police work. They'd have to hire smart people though.
