  • This is true, but currently that is also much needed for the Ukrainian forces as well. Time is needed to consolidate after the withdrawal from Kursk and to get more European integration up and running.

  • Canada is facing an existential threat right now. While I agree that a sub building program is ultimately where we want to end up, we don't have time or finance for that as well as the dozens of other procurements our military is desperate for. The KSS-III batch 2 would be a perfect fit for Canada in a few ways. Firstly, it's a tested design and is in production. This could mean our forces could train immediately on in-service ROKN boats while new hulls are under construction. That could very much reduce time to deployment from the decade or so we'd need for a fully Canadian program to maybe 2 years. Secondly, the KSS-III is one of the very few conventional boats with VLS capability. It is paired with the Hyunmoo 4-4 ballistic missile, which has been successfully launched from the submerged boat. Since the only real defence Canada will ever have against American aggression is a nuclear deterrent, that capability could be key to deployment. The final point I would make in favour of the KSS-III is the size of the hull. It is already one of the largest conventional boats around. It would be a very solid design platform for an expansion to a nuclear powered platform in the future. That could represent a possible partnership between Canada and ROK going forward as our democracies look to survive against the authoritarian superpowers we are surrounded by.

  • The F-35 deal pretty much has go too, we can't but our frontline equipment from an adversary. The modernization of the Rafale and the Gripen E both say they have an enhanced ability to engage 5th gen jets, both could be a good call for Canada.

  • I have this keyboard, while it does have a fairly good feel, the plastic structure is pretty flimsy. I'm not sure if recommend it over a good modern mechanical kB.

  • America is the enemy. Smaller states need to work closely together to resist the wanker states like Russia, America, and China.

  • Also, the Nazi salutes from the podium during the ascension of a fascist leader might make them bolder too.

  • "I used to be a TikToker like yourself, but then I took a manhole to the knee."

  • Fact

  • I thought it meant you were classified as a battleship...

  • Definitely hammered. I imagine he's a low priority target in that condition since he's a considerable risk to himself and his comrades. Already seen a few videos of shitfaced Russians shooting each other or detonating munitions by accident. Just let him work lol

  • This is how you can tell he wanted to make a statement, he went after a Rich. If he was just looking to murder without it being a big deal he could have just killed a few dozen school children.

  • What if they denounce Israel and it genocide, or perhaps it's unilateral attacks on their country without declaration of war, or their occupation of Syrian territory? I think we know how things are going to go for Syria.

  • This is genuinely the only reasonable sovereignnty guarantee in the current geopolitical climate. We haven't had a nuclear deterrent since the 80s, time to reaquire it. That's just dreaming though, Canada simply lacks decisive leadership under any part, at least that's the evidence of the last 30 years or so.

  • Oh my god, they wouldn't consider genocide would they?!

  • It's worth getting familiar with how tarrifs impact the economy in general. This is a good overview in my opinion.

  • Genocide ain't cheap, I'm sure Israel appreciates the support.

  • Wait, the ~14,000 dead children complied with American restrictions? The damaging or destruction of over 80% of all structures in Gaza was within restrictions? Interesting. It's honestly going to be tough for the victims of genocide to tell the difference. It actually may benefit Israel's victims since America is likely to massively lose influence in the world with the clown car pulling into Washington. Many nations who likely want to push back against the genocide are under huge American pressure to stay silent and complicit, hopefully as America loses influence that could change.

Not saying that will occur, just an opinion.

  • Having elected a fascist autocrat, who already prepared the way by having the supreme court declare him above the law. Living in the country with the most militarized police, a nation with a massive capability to spy on it's own citizens, citizens who have little critical thinking capability to begin with. A society where social media creates the reality those poorly educated citizens live in, and social media is owned by oligarchs who benefit from a system where pleasing one narcissistic leader gives them power over regulators and increases their wealth more rapidly. I think people are a little optimistic to believe we can't call the next election today.

  • You have to frame everything in terms that apply to trump. His goal is to be in a room with Putin, being praised for dealing with the Ukraine problem. He wants to be acknowledged by another dictator and strong man, that's it. He'll definitely pressure both Ukraine and their European supporters to accept Russian conquest of Ukrainian territory so he can get a ceasefire. It's not because he hates Ukraine, he probably doesn't care about them at all, it's just the pursuit of affirmation for himself. It's up to Europe, and hopefully RoK, to push forward and give democracy a win to raise everyone's morale.

    Issue with filtering

I have recently been having an issue where filters are applied, not by me, while I'm browsing in Connect. Entire communities are showing no posts with the message, "Empty because all posts are being filtered". There are no filters turned on in the settings that I can see. Many comments are also hidden due to filters, including my own. I have checked in using the browser interface and everything is normal there.

Is there a setting I am missing, or do I have another issue with the app?

Edit: Issue solved, apparently I had blocked lemmy.world though I'm not sure how.

(Linux noob) Getting an error attempting to install Flatpacks via Software Manager

I am receiving this error when I attempt to install via the manager, but I am able to install via Terminal. That said I am getting an option to install for either System or User, which I haven't previously seen. I'm sure this is probably something pretty basic, but I'm fairly Linux illiterate... beyond knowing I can mess things up by fiddling without knowing what I'm doing.

I am on Nobara 37, Gnome 43.2, Wayland. I'd love a hand with this, thanks!

Edit: Thanks for the detailed answers! Issue resolved.
