  • It does help if services that generate or store secrets and keys display a large warning that they should be kept secret, every time they're viewed, no matter the experience level of the viewer. But yeah understanding why and how isn't something that should be assumed for new devs.

  • Anyone who uses Grindr, please be aware that any photos you send are cached and stored unencrypted in plain old folders on the receiver's phone, regardless of whether they were expiring or in an album that you later revoked. It's nearly trivial to grab any photo someone sends you, with no watermark or screenshot notification.

  • :( I also had a bit of a culture shock when I started working, after being young and naive and assuming people interested in tech were progressive, and going to a public university for CS surrounded by other liberals.

  • Yeah, in touch with your feelings != dumping your feelings out of a firehose at a partner who's expected to just soak them all up once a week, then pretending they don't exist the rest of the time.

  • My entirely amateur guess is that our peripheral vision interprets the black and white plus signs as highlights and shadows on a rolling surface.

    A bit like how we know there are 3D waves in this image because of the highlights and shadows, while knowing that the water is all the "same color":
