Thank you so much for your help.
So this morning I ended up deleting all my drives. I have 4 different SSDs/HDD in my system and I originally figured I would just delete the OS SSD and then let Windows discover the other drives once Windows was reinstalled. I realized last night it’s just mostly games I can redownload so I went ahead and deleted every partition in Linux this morning. Thankfully Linux helped me move over everything that was actually important before deleting.
Then I went and tried the Windows installer again and now it works.
I have added all my drives except one. I get an I/O error when trying to add it in. I’m guessing this was my culprit all along. And I remember that I did do something to this drive when setting up everything yesterday which was add a cover over top of it to help with cooling. I’m not sure if this has any impact, maybe I damaged it or something. But I’m not too worried about losing it.
Thank you so much for your help! I truly appreciate it.
Where can I access that log? I haven’t encountered any issues on the surface in Linux but haven’t dug into any logs.
Thanks for your comment!
Edit: sorry, I’m still learning Linux.
But I checked journalctl and not seeing any obvious errors.
What kind of errors might I see that would be related to this?

Can't boot into Windows at all after moving to a new case
I got a new AIO cooler and needed to also move to a bigger desktop case.
So I moved all of my internal components from one case to the other and also removed the old AIO and installed the new one. Besides that, I might have damaged my PSU in the process so I had to replace that too. It wouldn’t turn on anymore so I just replaced it this morning.
I tried booting into Windows and it went to a BSOD saying cache_manager was the problem.
I tried to get a recovery in there and Windows tried to automatically repair drives but kept coming up on this same error.
I created a KDE Neon live USB and booted into that. Zero issues. I then manually formatted my Windows OS disk in KDE and also removed the Windows bootloader. Basically trying to start from a scratch system with no Microsoft any.
Still getting the BSOD, even with the Windows 11 USB installer I created from their creation tool. I am able to get to that purple screen in the installer and see a cursor to move around with my mouse. That
I bet someone is going to bootleg it lol
It’d be nice but would hurt indies because indies thrive due to not needing a physical port, and only releasing one once they are popular and successful enough to afford it.
I guess you could include some verbiage that would target AAA studios, but they’ll find a way around it like they do everything else.
And at this point, I’m not really fond of most AAA titles anyway so this won’t do much for people like myself to care anymore. Physical releases are something I care about less since other issues have arisen over the years, specifically in the quality of the game, itself.
His insatiable greed disgusts me
I am blown away by KDEnLive and how quickly I’ve been able to pick it up to learn it.
It’s as simple as the classic Windows Movie Maker but also just as capable as iMovie or what little I did in FinalCutPro on a Mac.
One feature I love on this is that I was editing a video on my Windows gaming PC and have the files all on the cloud. I then loaded that same project on my Linux laptop and it gave me an error that it didn’t have the media… however…it would parse a folder FOR ME and then add that media back into the project. In minutes I had the complete video timeline just as it was on my Windows machine now on my Linux laptop.
It’s also just so basic and easy to use. It’s a bit refreshing and not intimidating to use. Granted, I am someone who’s somewhat familiar with video editing from other applications, but not a pro by any means.
Free beta testers since nobody is paying for this dogshit.
I’ve played guitar and trombone. Only did trombone for like half a year, and was too grossed out by the spit valve lol so I stuck with guitar.
I can read tabs but can’t read music and can replicate the tabs with some practice.
But I go years without playing and then randomly pick it up so I’ve never gotten good at it. Just a fun hobby and fun to know a little here and there.
Or a burrito. Talking about the abomination that is the “California burrito” 🤮
Rainbow Six Patriots.
Instead we got another MMO game…yay…….
I had the opposite a few years ago where someone I called for support had chickens audible in the background lol.
Yeah I just watched the first episode a few weeks ago and it was not my thing. It was like I understood it’s a joke and why it’s funny, but I just couldn’t laugh.
I wonder if my expectations were too high.
He’s got the mustache and the hair to match 🤣
I use Brave and it lets me choose a download location. Used it yesterday for some tax documents.
Granted, every web browser on iOS is Safari under the hood. I just prefer to use Brave because it syncs my settings and history and bookmarks to and from my PC and other devices.
They wouldn’t have to go that far. Windows 10 was able to correct a lot of the mistakes of Windows 8 doing that while still allowing for users to have a desktop experience, such as that Start Menu screen you could bring up for a better touch experience.
Users have been begging Apple for a touch screen Mac before the iPad with companies even making touch screen MacBooks as well as touch screen peripherals. Especially with a lot of Mac users being artists or developers who would benefit from having touch abilities natively in macOS.
The demand is there. But the real reason Apple won’t is because it’ll cut into their profits.
They need to just give us macOS on an iPad already and be done with it. But with iPads costing as much as a Windows computer, and people willing to buy a new iPad AND Mac computer, sometimes yearly, I can’t exactly blame Apple for not doing it and instead blurring the lines with mixed features.
I don’t do food deliveries anymore but when I did, almost always did the food come in a paper bag that had a sticker over it which would let you know if someone tampered with it after the food was prepared, i.e. the driver. The drinks also came with a sticker over the top of it to cover both the lid and the insert for the straw so you’d know if someone removed it.
I’ve gotten them recently when doing curbside pickups at places like McDonald’s too.
I think streamers would know their food was tampered with. Unless someone was extremely careful, but that’s difficult when dealing with the paper bags and stickers.
Some of the newer ones have moved away from that in the past decade. That’s how I “made” some SATA adapters years ago and got cheaper hard drives to put internally in my laptops.
I did one in about 2015 and when I opened it up, the SATA adapter wasn’t there and instead they had put a micro USB directly onto the board of the hard drive, so you couldn’t detach it.
I have no idea how I missed that in the title because that’s the only thing I was wondering about lol But just changed it

Have there been any major changes noticed in countries' languages that have recently split?
I say “recently” in a relative way, more so countries that have split in the last century. Places like North and South Korea, Taiwan and China, former USSR states, etc.
Has enough time passed that these countries separated have major changes in their languages yet?
I wonder how well it’ll play because it’s a bit rough to play the DLC on the Steam Deck while the main game plays just fine.

People who talk over other people
This shit grinds my gears so fucking hard.

USB C port doesn't work on laptop, how to troubleshoot?
I got a Dell Latitude 7400 2 in 1 from my job they were going to ewaste. I daily drive KDE Neon on it and I love it. However, one of its two USB type C ports isn’t working for charging or data transfer. I inspected the port but found no obvious damage. How can I troubleshoot and fix this? I’ve searched YouTube and online sites but haven’t found helpful guidance.

When people write your name incorrectly
I get it if it’s at a place like Starbucks when you verbally say it. Everyone has a special way of spelling their name and you can’t know the spelling based on how it was said.
But when my name is literally written out in the previous email and you are replying to that email…bruh.
Makes me want to passive aggressively write theirs incorrectly too.

Do you use anything that someone else would consider a collectible and would never use?
Just thinking about collector’s cups like limited edition Super Bowl memorabilia or whatever.
I realize that I prefer to use them rather than keep them pristine. I have a Chiefs winner shirt an ex gave me and I just wear it despite her saying it’d probably be worth something someday lol

Does anyone else have a negative perception of a product/service solely because of spam advertising?
I swear off so many products and services for no other reason than their obnoxious, repetitive commercials.
Off top of my head, I will never buy Old Spice anything because their ads are so repetitive and obnoxious. I feel disgust when I see it in the store and actively avoid it for no other reason than their spam campaigns.
Same for USAA, Native body wash, AmEx, Liberty insurance (that forced catchy theme), and more.
Anyone else feel the same way? Or have you caught yourself getting suckered in because of ads’ subconscious shenanigans?

My cat has developed a Pavlovian instinct whenever I open a jar of yogurt
He loves the shit.
I grab one of those jars from the fridge and open the aluminum wrapping and he goes crazy, begging for me to drop a smidge of yogurt on the floor so he can lick it up.
It doesn’t matter how quiet I try to be, he hears that aluminum foil and comes running for it and will not stop meowing until he is satisfied.

What is currently holding us back from mining in space?
I’m sure there are a few hurdles, but wondering what is the biggest reason that keeps us back at this moment as the most pressing thing. Is it that the technology just isn’t there yet? Or is it because of legal complications, international treaties and all that? Is it just not financially feasible to do at this present time with the technology we do have? That we could do it, in theory, but the ROI is too low?

YSK: The US is currently giving away free COVID tests to all Americans
This is 100% free and so is shipping through the USPS.
This is the article from the FTC on this (and also some tips to avoid possible scams) and the link inside to begin the order https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2024/10/how-order-free-covid-test-kits-federal-government-and-avoid-scammers
They limit 4 per household and do keep in mind that these tests do expire, but it seems wise for everyone to still have some on hand if someone believes they have symptoms. If nothing else, you’ll have some to share with friends if the expiration is close so they don’t go to waste.

Is there a way to search for specific words on a site?
I was looking at a car on a local dealership’s website last night and saw that there was a mention of “2 days” or “250 miles” and you could return a car that you bought from them. I came back to the website this morning and I’m not seeing that anymore. I’m not 100% positive where I saw it, but I know the general area and not seeing it there anymore. It seemed to be under the car’s description for each car they had in their inventory.
I used site:dealershipdomain.com in Google to search for “2 days” and “250” and it finds results but not finding this wording specifically on the pages listed in the search results.
Is there another way to search for this on a specific site? Am I doing that incorrectly?
Edit: thanks for the tips, everyone! Sorry, should have mentioned I was using CTRL + F to search when on the page.
I found one mention of it on another site linking here, and now it makes me wonder if that’s where I saw it.
But either way, kind of found what I was looking for. Thanks f

For those who play games using a controller, do you use your middle and index fingers to use the triggers or just your index fingers?
On a Xbox controller, do you use just your index finger to alternate between LB and L and RB and R? Or do you use your index and middle fingers placed respectively on each individual trigger? Or do you have a completely different setup?
Likewise with PlayStation’s control scheme annd its respective control scheme and controllers with similar layouts with 4 triggers.

Anyone here do VR gaming in Linux and have any tips to share?
I tried making the switch fully from Windows earlier this month but the fact that VR wasn’t working well was a big issue that caused me to have to go back to Windows.
I contemplated just having a smaller partition for Windows for VR gaming, but I really want to make the switch fully if possible. I’ll keep Windows on a spare laptop, but that’s it. I want all my main computers to be on Linux.
Are there any distros that work best for this or any tips to share?
I have a Meta Quest 3 that I like using for VR gaming on PC. I’ve been really into Skyrim VR lately and modding in it too. So to find a way to both mod Skyrim VR and play VR would be my goal to accomplish. Wireless VR is not a must but it’s nice. If it has to be one way, whether USB or wireless, that’s fine with me. I’m not strictly needing one way or the other. All of my VR games are in Steam so far, so any tips would be great for this setup.
I tried Bazzite and KDE Neon and both were giving me issues with VR. I had ALVR since

Who are Canadian politicians arguing to?
I sometimes see clips pop up on YouTube shorts of Trudeau and Poilievre arguing back and forth but their focus doesn’t seem to be on each other but looking in the same direction, occasionally looking at the other when taking a shot.
Me as a non-Canadian, I’m not familiar with this. What exactly are they doing and who are they directing these to? Is it one person or many others or is it to be in general to the Canadian population?

I prefer not knowing anything beyond the title, poster, and rating of a movie before going to see it
I went and saw The Wild Robot over the weekend without knowing a single thing about it and ended up enjoying the movie a lot. I truly think part of that was not knowing anything about the movie except seeing the poster, knowing the title, seeing the rating, and knowing it was for kids and was animated (which was evident by the poster and rating). Beyond that, I was clueless. I didn’t even know if the robot would talk or not. The story unfolding out for me entirely was nice to experience.
I won’t ruin any parts of the movie for anyone who may be in my position too, but if you’re into animated kids movies with a hint of sci-fi, you’ll probably like this movie.
I only became aware of this movie as I was checking on times for Alien Romulus and saw this instead. My girlfriend’s son is obsessed with robots so I knew this was likely a movie he’d like to see.
The only place where I’m bombarded with ads anymore is on YouTube on my phone and TV where my adblockers don’t work. So I had never h

Where do most of the famous musicians keep their musical instruments?
Talking about those artists who are world famous and always have their treasured instrument(s) like Willie Nelson and his “Trigger” guitar.
Where do these artists typically store their instruments when not performing? If on tour, do they keep it on the bus or in their room?
I know everyone is different, but just wondering about some examples and/or the general places they’d keep them.
