  • You’re absolutely right, I should stop having an opinion on it when it’s his hobby. And apart from this I 98% have kept my opinion to myself. This particular instance kind of bled into the conversations about him quitting and doing this full time and it gave me a lot of concern and pause on how effective he would be at making good business decisions. And from my perspective I take that on as a lot of pressure on myself to be responsible for both of us financially. I can, at least as things are now, but my business is commission based so nothing is guaranteed long term. So it scares me

To be clear, I don’t think he’s dumb in the slightest, I think he’s very smart. I think he is very detail averse and his ADHD can make him miss critical details and also keep him from having important discussions. And I also think he’s so afraid of upsetting other people that he’ll just agree to anything

  • True, he absolutely feels like he’s not being heard. He won’t ever let anyone help him with stuff like this, and gets very upset when people try to give him advice (not just me, everyone in our lives outside his content world). As a wife who very much supports his passion for the content creation I know I should just say “okay cool” to however he wants to manage it but it’s also incredibly hard to watch him let people walk all over him and him always undervalue himself (this goes for his day job too, it’s an ongoing theme)

Content creator husband signed a product review contract. No pay, just free product he didn’t ask for

And now he thinks I’m an a-hole for questioning his decision. He has a YouTube page with about 600 subscribers (more on Insta), it’s a niche topic that he could honestly probably broaden and monetize if he wanted to and had the time. There’s a lot of friendly exchange of swag and small products in the genre and quick reels and reviews that follow. But recently a company asked him to do a review of their approximately $300 product and they would send it to him free and he could keep it. Okay cool, he’s small time and wants more subs so why not. Turns out they sent him a contract to sign that specified it be a 10 minute video, specifies how it needs to be shot, what needs to be included, he can’t discuss it with other ppl, etc. They’re not paying him anything, he didn’t ask for the product, and he’s agreeing to be contractually obligated to whatever terms are in this contract for a product he didn’t even ask for. Mind you he is a professional videographer and editor by trade, a 10 minute

  • Thank you, I really appreciate that. I’m essentially an atheist too (I don’t even give it a label for myself because god and religion are just not a part of my life, and I don’t need them to be). And yet somehow I feel I have exponentially more compassion and value of morality than a large swath of these people voting in a monster, acting under the guise of being “good Christians”. Maybe I’m delusional, maybe I’m the one missing something, I don’t know. I still believe in humanity, but man I’m just sad right now. Anywho, I’ll take all the prayers and positive energy for everyone that I can get right now, so thank you

  • I am fucking gutted, I am so sad and angry and I don’t know what to do. I am overall a happy and positive person and believe in humanity but this win feels like it’s stripping me of a piece of that and I hate that! I hate that I feel so much hate right now, it’s exactly what I preach against, yet here I am. I can’t believe this is happening

  • A community dedicated to all the niche communities, I like this. A post a day highlighting various ones or where people can announce the ones they’ve created. This is a good idea to at least spread the word of their existence

  • Oh yeah, age will catch up on you quick! And I’m in a very sunny/outdoor activity area so I really have to be vigilant about taking care of my skin. The Korean skincare sounds interesting but I have no idea where to start

  • I’m going to get reamed on here for too many products and spending way too much money but I’m an aging female in a very superficial location, so please forgive me! And marketing clearly works on me…

Morning: Cetaphil cleanser, with just hands. I wouldn’t scrub your face with a wash cloth, sounds too harsh. Skinceuticals Phloretin (it’s a high end vitamin C serum)- this one has really evened out my skin tone and apparently protects from further sun damage. Before upcoming lotions I mist with water or Caudalie grape water spray-helps lock in moisture with the lotions Alastin Restorative Skin Complex serum-my dermatologist recommended this one, he also sells it..no idea how much it has individually helped or not Kiehls avocado eye cream Dieux instant angel gel cream Little bit of La Roche Posay cicaplast under eyes Supergoop mineral matte spf 40 sunscreen

Evening: Double cleanse-start with Neutrogena sesame seed oil on dry face-I’ve only been doing this about a month and it’s my favorite (and cheapest) thing now-removes makeup and oil or dirt from the day really well and it’s really hydrating. Then lightly wash with cetaphil cleanser. Alastin Restorative Skin Complex Dr Dennis Grossman retinol eye cream Skinceuticals a.g.e Interruptor lotion Aklief- this is a prescription tretinoin derivative and I don’t use it every day Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Repair La Roche Posay cicaplast lightly under eye

On my chest I use Timeless vitamin c (a good dupe for the Skinceuticals Phloretin) in the morning and then the Dieux InstantAngel cream. Also been using some leftover skinceuticals HA Immerse there that didn’t work well on my face.

Body I do a messy mixture of Gold Bond Retinol body lotion mixed with a vitamin E oil and water nightly

I’m still sort of figuring it out and would love to eliminate stuff but I’m not sure what. It’s ever-evolving. Admittedly I spend WAY too much money on this, but fuck it, I can and it makes me feel good. Also this stuff (at least some of it) has totally transformed my skin for the better. So maybe some of it is a waste but some of it definitely works

  • All of you being burnt out all the time isn’t helping anyone. You have to take care of yourself, you’ll be much better able to help and contribute to your family when you’re in a better mental and physical state. I’d suggest (as someone else did) to find a place relatively nearby so you can still help but at least have your own spacer. Good luck!

  • Tamale pie- canned corn, chili (no beans bc blegh), canned tamales (really these are even optional despite the name of the dish), and Swiss cheese all melted together in ooey gooey goodness.

Also I love the raw dough from those biscuits in the can that pops

  • So I would never cry in public (I almost never cry really) and I think I have just as hard of a time asking for help carrying anything as a guy would, I’m not even sure I’d have an easier time accepting the help when offered. Even when I had a broken foot I remember a guy from across the street waving me down and offering to help me carry whateve bags I had with me and I was like “thanks I’m fine!”, but I totally could have used the help. So maybe it’s just my perception that nothing is different for me..? I mean I see the obvious differences in the way guys behave towards us vs other males (and honestly I like the chivalry when it happens) but I guess, as I think about it, I don’t attach different rules to myself.

The meat cleaver thing cracks me up though!

Art is in the AI of the beholder

Just received the photos of a sewer scope inspection for a client and the AI series of description fails gave me a giggle

Found this surveillance system on my afternoon bike ride

The cameras wrapped around the tree, some very cool old school cameras too. Really blended in fun art piece, nearly missed it

How can I filter my feed to only show posts that are in English?

Just the title, if I’m looking at “All” I have to scroll past a lot of posts in other languages that I can’t read and I have t been able to find language as a filter option. Thanks!

Looks like Apollo is officially gone, such injustice and so heartbreaking :(

    Reddit @lemmy.world

Why would Reddit push users away from their app shortly before announcing API changes?

I can’t wrap my head around this, it seems so bizarre. The only reason I’m here now is because I joined Apollo right after Reddit changed its app to remove the sort by rising feature. It completely changed my experience on the app for the worse and I sought out an alternative, and I know I’m not the only one that had this complaint. I was a faithful Reddit user/poster on the official app for 6 years until just a few months ago. Why would they make their app less user friendly a few months before announcing the crazy API changes. They drove me away from their app and then drove me away from the site altogether.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? It just makes no sense to me
