Economy featured Business in the Age of Overshoot

  • China's oil consumption was unfortunatly still going up last year. Before Trump's tariffs most analyst predicted a stagnation of oil consumption in China.

Trump also is burning down enviromental protection in the US, which means drill baby drill.

EV sales are growing in developing countries. Brazil for example crossed the 5% mark this year. India saw a 20% growth in EV sales so far as well.

  • They want a cheap work force to steal wealth. That can be done by having a lot of supply in other words natalism or it can be done by lowering demand using technology. They obviously go for both.

  • The dud writes songs called "Heil Hitler", "Hitler Ye and Jesus", "Free Diddy" and so much more. It is insane

  • Does it? The Canadian fertility rate dropped below replacement in 1971, which is also the case for most other Western countries.

  • There are a lot of problems with that. First of all just looking at the elderly is a problem. There are also children, which do cost a society quite a lot of resources. With a low birth rate that group is becoming smaller and smaller. Right now that dependency ratio is at 41.43%. That is actually incredibly low. The US is at 53.88% and Japan is at 69.94%. That is dependent person per worker.

Then the assumption of not keeping up with certain services. Although that is true, there is another site to it the video completely ignores. The population is shrinking and the country has a lot of high quality infrastructure. That means low housing prices, as they are already built. No need to built new railways, streets, sewage systems and the like.

That also goes for the economy. Constant worker shortages, mean the most competitive companies will pay the highest wages and out compete weaker ones. Therefore the average worker will become more competitive.

One important thing here is that South Korea has an incredibly low fertility rate. 2.1 is replacement level. So 0.7 means each generation is 2/3 smaller then the previous one. However most places in the world are above 1.4, which would just mean 1/3 less people per generation, which makes it a lot more manageable. Also again migration. The world is still above replacement level of 2.1.

  • Get rid of your car. They are insanely expensive. Not just to buy, but also taxes, insurance and other operating costs. At the same time bicycles are nearly free.

  • In power saving mode it can run between 200 hours on the low side and 500 hours or in some cases even much longer of constant interactive use, not standby.

    Okay that is insane.

  • The good part is, that a lot of it is recycled and if you have the necessary skills, then it is possible to DIY them.

  • That one was about 160,000 USD. They are pretty expensive to built.

  • Tesla stock was at $144 a year ago and is at $253 today. 5 years ago it was at $47. With income at $0.12 per share it is not like any of those are even close to reality. However they are what needs to fall to kill the Elon.

  • "Explores" means they are looking into it and "sources say" means somebody told them. If I had to guess, a bunch of oil and gas lobbyists are working hard on making it happen and at least somebody "explored" the option, which can just mean "yeah that is dumb" or "we should really do that".

  • They both are looking to maintain the status quo of wealth concentrating in the 1%.

Powell is doing that. Trump however is working hard to concentrating the wealth of the oligarchs closest to him, which make up a lot less then 1% of the population.

  • So more solar panels for developing countries....

  • Sorry, but did somebody ask AI to create some cyberpunk motorcycle pictures for this article?

  • China is following the playbook of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and similar countries. The all used window guidance to quickly grow targeted industries, which actually worked very well. All of them are wealthy countries today. However that dependence on how good the window guidance is. They take on a lot of debt to invest and it only works as long as the investment is actually smart. If not the debt increases and that causes massive problems down the line. So it creates a bubble and when it pops it hurts badly. After decades of growth those bubbles probably are nasty.

  • Is Trump working on Making America Great Again, by turning it into a European colony again? A massive trade war with China, is obviously going to hurt both countries and Europe is the largest economy left.

  • Looks like the Easter peace got at least observed on some parts of the front.

Russian Urals oil prices fell to the lowest level since 2023 as Brent price collapsed

The Russian budget presumes a minimum of $60 to keep everything going. In 2019 the Russian oil extraction cost was $32 per barrel. So this really hurts.
