  • I've got a few of these and never attempted a trellis or moss pole, just letting them trail seems fine. I think they are ground crawling plants rather than climbers. I'm sure you could use a pole, but a basic trellis with really large gaps would probably work better if you want height from the plant. That would probably give you more options for the material challenges you have mentioned too.

  • Community promo could be different to new communities. I might not be around when a new community is created and first announced, but at a later date someone might promote the community again. That seems like a useful and possibly better idea. Have I understood correctly?

  • Monaco should become its own event. Not F1, but something specific to the circuit. Allow F1 to race on tracks that are worthwhile and the drivers are still able to race in the novelty event if they want. That's the major change I'm interested in. A sponsor change is so un-noteworthy that I almost deleted this comment in apathy.

  • Without the funding, Thames Water will run out of money in March, which could force the government to temporarily nationalize the company.

Oh no! Won't someone please think of the investors?

Company executives say the fault lies with regulators who kept bills too low for too long, starving the company of the cash it needed to fund improvements.

If you haven't got money for improvements, stop diverting the money you did have into your own pockets. 17 billion in debt?! Fuck you.

  • Indoctrinated is precisely the word I use to describe my pro military upbringing. Many people join young, realise what's up and leave after minimum terms. I have no shame in saying I was basically brainwashed when I was younger.

  • It's a great pen, but I haven't bought any for years since joining the refillable pen club. Fountain pens are great, but you can also get refillable ball points. I thought for sure I would lose it, but you spend a little more and you really make sure to look after it.

Would it ever be possible to enforce post tags on Lemmy?

I have a load of filters set up on my feed, notably I don't want to see Trump or Elon.

Due to recent events, so much content is coming through that it is as if I don't have filters at all.

If the text or title doesn't include the key words, it can't be filtered. All the screenshots or posts with jokes or bad titles can't be filtered.

I think the only way proper filters could be achieved is with a separate 'tags' field that could be added to or voted on by community members.

This might all seem like a lot of effort, but feed filters are such a good feature that I think it would be worth it.

I don't want unreasonable perfection for the filters, but the system seems too flawed at the moment.

I have no idea where this kind of discussion or decision would be made so I'm just throwing it out as a question here.

    How to stop AI glasses?

There are lots of issues I have with them in terms of privacy, but I'm going to be very specific in asking about a certain situation and would prefer to stay on that topic if possible.

I have seen someone showing AI glasses which allow the wearer to cheat at chess. The glasses provide the wearer with computer engine moves, essentially making them unbeatable against even the strongest grand masters.

How can someone prevent this from happening, for example in a tournament match?

I don't consider this as being an issue at the highest level of professional play, but for club and casual players they might not have the resources to deal with this.

Currently the camera and/or screen information might be fairly obvious just by looking, but assuming technology improves this could become harder to detect.

Retrospectively, it would be easy to spot a cheater and correct results, however this still spoils things by having the cheating in the first place.

It isn't realistic to ask people to pl

    Monstera Help 🥺

I just noticed this, what should I do? Sorry for the vague question but I can't find any good articles on what this is.

Everything I find starts the same way "top 8 reasons for brown leaves". Then says too much water, not enough water, too much light not enough light too much fertilizer not enough, wrong kind of fertilizer and so on and so on. That isn't helpful! Do I just have to guess? Why is all plant knowledge basically voodoo?

I'm tempted to take a cutting so I have a spare to try again if it all goes wrong, but the plant only has 5 leaves, so I'm stressing out.

Hello From A New Chicken Keeper

First I want to say hello, I have only 3 lovely chickens to start off with as I learn the ropes.

Secondly, my neighbours son is absolutely obsessed with the chickens. It's really nice, but he is also feeding them huge amounts of wild bird seed and I'm a little worried. There are mounds of the stuff being poured over the fence!

I have spoken to his parents nicely and asked them to stop him doing so, which they understand.

In case this doesn't get resolved quickly, is there any danger that this can cause harm to my chickens?

    Blue Steel Convert

I bought a set of three carbon steel pans, and they are amazing. Is this allowed here? They are 99% iron I think.

They are lighter than a full iron pan but you still season them in the same way.

I have had an iron pan dedicated to meat cooking for a few years now, but I'm not sure it will get much use now.

These are new pans, so I'll have to see how they last, but I'm very optimistic.

    Fast food should be expensive.

I get that until recently it was considered normal and relatively cheap, but you are literally paying someone else to make food for you.

It can't be sustainable without exploitation of workers and/or animal welfare to have that available to the majority of people on a regular basis.

If you can only afford fast food as a luxury, to me that seems like a good thing.

As a non USA resident, I didn't know who this was. Before I read the post that was the name I had in my head.
