5 gigs is a bit high; just checked and my Mint Cinnamon installation is idling at under 2. I used to have an old 4GB Macbook Air with Cinnamon, which ran acceptably considering its specs (and was a heck of a lot faster than MacOS).
I didn't even let my latest laptop boot to Windows when I first turned it on, the Linux USB stick went in right away. But for those who use Windows for one reason or another, always perform a clean install; manufacturers love including all sorts of crap by default.
This is a community for Linux memes; it's not meant to be that serious. But if you do want to be serious, the fact is that a huge percentage of PCs currently in use (over half by some estimates) do not meet the Windows 11 requirements and therefore cannot upgrade. I'm sure those users care about the requirements.
I'm so glad I deleted my Instagram account.
I kiss it while I'm eating it, does that count?
All your amazing astrophotography and yet that's the one you choose as your best? :p
I'm on an Mbin instance, which federates with Lemmy but I guess doesn't get recognized as a proper Lemmy link. These two links to the actual community instances should work: first post second post
Linux doesn't actually need any functional components to run; if you put on enough pairs of programming socks and take some psychedelics you can simply sit in front of a blank screen and hallucinate a fully functional Linux distro!
If you upgraded an existing installation of Win 10 you should be fine, AFAIK the internet requirement is only for installing a new copy of Win 11.
Of course, just make sure you paint a penguin on the side first.
And they say 5G signals are harmless! Tips tinfoil fedora.
Best by the numbers, this post on programmer_humor.
Best in my opinion has gotta be Logsday. I literally went outside and lit an edited calendar on fire for that one. :D
I like the comments here a lot more. Reddit's comment ranking algorithm mostly prioritized highly upvoted comments, so the top comments on every thread would be the earliest ones, and anything much later would be lost in the sea. Here new comments get ranked higher than older ones even if they have fewer upvotes, which gives them a lot more visibility.
Windows will sooner kill itself than learn how to play nice with others.
Brb making a necklace of crystal oscillators to heal and balance my body. (And yeah 32768 Hz is a pretty common value for oscillators; interesting the crystal pseudoscientists use it too).
If you're not talking nicely to the plants, you're not a vegan in spirit.
Crystals do have their own energetic signature frequencies though! Quartz is a good example; we use its piezoelectric and resonance properties to make cheap but relatively accurate oscillators.
Linux System Requirements:

I don't know the specifics of the chip design, but plenty of materials don't react with water even at high temperatures, so they probably used one of those.
Sometimes knocking an idea down is justified, especially in the case of astrology.

There are probably fediverse instances being run by governments for surveillance purposes
The downside of everything being federated is that it's really easy to listen in. Make sure to keep yourself anonymous online!

Asteroid 2024 YR4 now has a 1.94% chance to hit the Moon (according to my own calculations)

Hi, I thought I'd share this here since it isn't being covered by any news sources. It's mostly my own research and calculations, so it could be completely wrong, but I'm fairly confident it's correct.
Most of you probably heard about the asteroid 2024 YR4, which briefly reached a 3.1% chance of Earth impact before its orbit was further constrained and the chance dropped to zero. What you may not have heard is that the chance of lunar impact has actually been steadily rising. No organization is currently reporting lunar impact statistics, so I've been calculating the probability myself. I've created a Desmos calculator that you can easily plug the approach data from NASA into. As of now it's sitting at 1.94%, with the nominal approach being less than one lunar radius from the surface of the Moon (just 0.058 sigma from the closest approach).
