I wouldn't say 40% are "fine with this". Its more like 40% of Americans are some combination of: Uneducated by design, Brainwashed by decades of propaganda, Kept so far in poverty they can't focus on anything but their next paycheck, indoctrinated into toxic religious communities, etc. The current state of the US, has been carefully molded and shaped into what it is now by the fascists in power.
As for people not fighting back? Some are. Not enough of course, but that goes back to keeping people in poverty. It would take me, for example, 7 hours of driving just to get to my state capitol to protest. Not to mention a couple hundred $ in gas. People working two jobs and living paycheck to paycheck just can't do that realistically.
I hate that my country has turned into this fascist shithole and wish that more people would rally and fight. I hate that I'm sitting here making excuses for these people but I'm really trying not to lose my humanity in all this. The sad truth of the matter, though, is that people won't fight unless their life is disrupted so much that it snaps them out of their survival mentality. Bread and Circuses and all that.

Ive told this story before so heres the short version. In high school I had a part time job at a dinner and some Kristian Karen Klub came in and tipped with these fake bills. It had the church name on it, which happened to be on my way to school so the next day I just went and shoved them in their donation box.
I just made a shopping list of bulk items im going to stock up on tomorrow. Just staples like four, rice, beans, pasta and stuff like that for now but I might start doing some small scale gardening. I only have a tiny patio to work with so probably potato buckets and small herb garden. Other than that, its just kinda wait and see i guess.

I realize this article is from 2023, but I hate that every photo Ive seen of this place shows the same group of heavily tatted gang members and not any of the innocent people that are being held here. Feels like a deliberate attempt to to distort the public's concept of the people being shipped there.
Me for the past 6 months...
Seconded on donating. It was free when I needed it for a family member and they sent a really lovely memorial letter. It listed all the things the donations went to like helping to restore sight in a veteran. You also still receive the cremated remains afterwards. Its a great option.

What do allergies feel like for you?
So this might be a weird one because I can just look this up anywhere, but Ive been dealing with some vexing medical problems the past year and I just want to see how allergies affect others. Maybe hearing from regular people instead of doctors will ease my mind a bit. A little back-story on my issue (though I'm not looking for a diagnosis), almost exactly a year ago I developed sever constant chronic rhino-sinusitis. I am constantly having to clear my throat and snort/sniffle. Its non stop every 30 seconds or so and no matter what combo of meds I take for allergies, nothing really helps. I have never had allergies before (that i know of) and all of a sudden, after well over 40 years on this earth, I'm allergic to everything. And I do have allergies. According to the test I took a few months ago, I tested positive for 45 out of 50 allergens they tested for. To make a long story short, every doctor I go to says its allergies. Says to get allergy shots and keep taking sprays and pills

I recently set up a LLM to run locally on my desktop. Now that the novelty of setting it up and playing with different settings has worn off, I'm struggling to come up with actual uses for it. What do you use it for when not doing work stuff?

Happy Halloween everyone! Had some fun with a random Mad-lib style prompt and inserting "holding a sign saying Happy Halloween". The Text, of course isn't the greatest but, not that bad actually. The AI really likes jackolanterns with the Halloween keyword. Every image had tons of jackolanterns even though I didn't tell it to. I really like how this came out, I didn't originally want the fire but the AI kept adding it with the Tanuki keyword so I leaned into it. It took a while to get though, it kept trying to make the Tanuki a horse and getting the fairy to ride it without it turning lewd or just ignoring the prompt was a pain. Is there a way to show read posts when visiting an instance directly but hide them when you view your main feeds?
When I'm scrolling through my main subscribed feeds or all, Id like to be able to hide posts Ive read/voted on so I don't see the same posts for days at a time, but still be able to visit an instance directly and see all posts made there. In smaller communities, hiding read posts can turn that instance into a ghost town. Its also nice to go back and read new comments on posts your interested in and hiding read posts makes that difficult. Right now it seems like its hide everything everywhere or not and no in between.
Edit- after creating this post I went to view my profile and didn't see it there. Turns out hiding read posts, also hides your own posts? Am I missing something here?
