Encrypted email has purpose, so long as the caveats are understood by the parties using it. I use it for internal company emails containing secure data. I am the IT department, so I can ensure no user is misusing it. In that circumstance, it has purpose. Are there other ways to accomplish the same thing? Sure. But this is still a viable solution.
