Ad supported search is the only way people will continue to use the internet. I feel the only real reason the internet is so widely used is because of the accuracy and accessibility provided by search engines and without them, the web as it currently exists will die and become small factions of like-minded individuals on forums. Some people like that idea but I'll tell you, as someone who lived through the internet in that era, there was some pretty fucked up shit that came out of those spaces.

We need global agora and we need ways to stay connected on unified platforms and we need to maintain history and knowledge. The Internet is our species's latest evolution. It allows us to combine our collective thoughts and knowledge for better or for worse. Destroying the primary way to navigate the Internet is an awful idea even though the leader of that industry is Google.

I think it's perfectly fine for a religious organization to be tax exempt provided they provide the same level of service as other non-profit orgs. I also think we desperately need to overhaul the requirements and auditing practices of organizations claim to be non-profits.

I don't think a religious organization on its face deserves to be tax exempt.

The problem with rioting in the states is that, there absolutely are riots and thus riot police. Rioting gets you shot.

I don't think I indicated that I disagree with that. Just that nothing matters to Trump more than his number going up. And I don't think that if other billionaires were losing money due to the market disruptions he is directly causing, he would do something differently. His prim directive is not to make the rich more wealthy or even to remove money from retirees and the poor. He doesn't give a shit who loses money as long as his personal wealth grows.

I'm pretty sure anyone else benefiting from his antics are strictly consequential benefits he can take advantage of and have little bearing on whether or not he does it in the first place.

Almost certainly he backed down because he is manipulating the market and shorting on the whole economy. The whole reason for the stop and go tariffs is to cause market instability and panic selling. He shorts right before he introduces tariffs and buys when the market free falls. Then he pauses the tariffs to build the market back up so he can sell and repeat the whole process. This isn't about anyone but Trump.

People had the same argument about 4K from 2K and the same argument about frame rates higher than 60fps. But, the bigger counter to that argument is that even if that were true, additional features take up additional bandwidth and the true power of these new connector standards is in the additional bandwidth. Things like 4K HDR at very high refresh rates and additional features like 3D and VRR can have signal room on the same cable enabling the creation of displays that can do more at once than they could before. Also there are high pixel density displays and projectors that can make use of 8K and 16K footage. It's niche for now but the technology advancing is not a bad thing.
