  • Many mysterious outages of late. Maybe because of energy overload issues , an outdated grid, and or sabotage.

  • Not exactly surprising

Exactly, because normally ultra processed food contain many free radicals like those mentioned in this Nature 2025 article, but also in this 1995 publication

Brazilian study links ultraprocessed foods to early death

An investigation by one of Brazil's leading health research institutes has linked high intakes of ultra processed foods to greater rates of premature death.

For some countries like the US and United Kingdom, as many as 1 in 7 deaths could be attributed to ultraprocessed food consumption.

The study led by researchers from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, based in Rio de Janeiro, analyzed data from eight countries, including nationally representative dietary surveys and mortality data.

AIVD accuses Iran of ordering murder attempt in Haarlem

tldr; Teheran uses criminal networks throughout Europe to silence Iranian dissidents.

" The Dutch intelligence service AIVD has accused Iran of being behind an attempted murder of an Iranian activist in Haarlem last summer.

Two of the suspects are known to police through criminal networks and are also wanted in connection with a failed murder attempt in Madrid in late 2023. That case involved former Spanish politician and vocal Iran critic Alejo Vidal-Quadras, the AIVD said.

US ready to abandon Ukraine peace deal if there is no progress, says Marco Rubio

The US will abandon its efforts “within days” to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine unless there are clear signs a settlement can be reached, the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has said, as Kyiv says it has signed a memorandum with the US over a controversial minerals deal.

  • Yes, It's all about durability, eco friendly and sustainability. I'm all for that. I just like it when you get stuff ( new or used ofc), that simply keeps functioning for years.

  • You mean you didn't know Northvolt was Swedish? What did the Canadian subsidiary do exactly? I mean there have been strange coincidences or sabotages in both afaik...

  • Good that those EU subsidies which were allocated to Northvolt remain in Europe, as will their tech.

Iirc, CATL held some shares, I wonder if VW/ Scania bought that as well.

  • FYi, for a lateral analysis to Chinese Spanish relationship, see also this Elcano Royal Institute , basically:

Meta faces a $2.4bn (£1.8bn) lawsuit accusing the Facebook owner of inflaming violence in Ethiopia after the Kenyan high court said a legal case against the US tech group could go ahead.

The case brought by two Ethiopian nationals calls on Facebook to alter its algorithm to stop promoting hateful material and incitement to violence, as well as hiring more content moderators in Africa. It is also seeking a $2.4bn “restitution fund” for victims of hate and violence incited on Facebook.

Moldova says Russian agents spent 200 mln euro to rig votes last year

CHISINAU, April 2 (Reuters) - Moldova's prime minister said on Wednesday that Russian agents spent around 200 million euros ($217 million)- nearly 1% of the small pro-European country's GDP - on efforts to buy votes at its presidential election and EU referendum last year. The comments came on the same day Britain sanctioned Evrazia, a pro-Russian non-governmental organisation, saying it was responsible for attempting to rig the referendum in Moldova and destabilise its democracy.

  • FYI , HERE is the most up to date list (including Turkiye, Israel and some others)

  • The author raises what seems a complicated issue, which translates into something like Real Politik.

His argument follows some common steps, and these are often used when coping with the extreme right( not an expert in French poltics):

    • Marine Le Pen isn't/ wasn't too bad, compared to her Father and maybe with the new surging Leader.
    • The rise of the new party leader Bardella thanks to tik-tok tactics
    • Bardella is polled to gain 35 à 36% ( des Français se sont dit prêts à voter pour Bardella), which poses significant threat to the center and left parties
    • The Left must come up with a good strategy for them to counter this rise, but will they?

The extreme right (and also the Trumpists & Putinist) are calling this a breach to democracy. Basically, gaslighting and issuing methodical disinformation about democratic values.

Leftist and Centrist fear, that they won't find a good political Programme to firewall a charismatic extreme right Populist like Bardella (Or fill in any other name).

From my Political analysis point of view, this isn't a situation unique to France. If democratic parties from Europe want to safeguard democracy, they will need to step up. In order to do so, they must start to unite, work from strength and not fear, and also use an anti-propaganda playbook. People and Politicians are still somewhat naive about the force of Propaganda, imo. Failing to do that, will result in political failure against the surging extreme Populists.

What we can appreciate though are the failguards of democratic values in Europe. If enough voters realise what is at stake here, democracy should remain safe, but not without continuous effort, both from voters and politicians.

I also miss mentioning "the elephant in the room".: we, Europe and our values, are Under Siege. Sometimes internally and more often externally. This democratic "emergency", unfortunately sometimes calls for "seemingly undemocratic" methods, because our politics relies on vows taken, trust and good husbandry.

So yes, we must clean the houses of certain individuals, those who are judged traitors to the European cause, while posing as democratic Politicians. We unfortunately live in such times, where we no longer can take the risk of appeasement nor do we have the luxury of forgiving individuals, whom by a constutinual court have been judged "guilty ". I am also hereby trusting to the courts and due to prcess. But, only to the extent of what my political engaged citizenship allows me. Ergo, one must use one own critical thinking, as a way to protect any bias or influence, within and without. It will always be a difficult balancing act. (ed: some polishing)

On March 31, the anniversary of Georgia’s 1991 independence referendum, thousands of demonstrators gathered on Rustaveli Avenue for a mass protest under the slogan “The People’s Spring is Coming.” President Salome Zurabishvili addressed the rally, declaring that the resistance must “take on a political format” in addition to the ongoing protests. She proposed the creation of a “Platform of Resistance” with the participation of the pro-European political spectrum to achieve two main goals of “the holding of new, fair elections” and “the release of all political prisoners.”

  • The Russians already have partly invaded Moldova, the region Transnistria. It's full of the mysterious "green man."

    Moldova needs to be hawkish.

  • Maybe there is a reason why they use this title. Ofcourse green energy is good, but we have been there for a while. Obviously, not a problem yet in Canada or in the USA. So it seems Europeans should be happy, while ignoring or marginalizing the nuances and problems of the current energy & electricity systems. The grid is congested and causes electricity fall out (Grid congestion is posing challenges for energy security and transitions. Also there are companies being paid to use electricity in energy machines that do absolutely nothing, (except deburden the grid by consuming electricity). And they make good money with that. Ed: in( brackets)

  • Yips even if you want to do business, the US admin just makes it undoable or say stuff that rubs you in a very wrong way. Fuck the DEI BS.

IIRC, Canada will or has joined Europe's Horizon programme.

  • When I read the word "visit"in the title, it just sounded strange/inappropriate to me, as if it was a social call.

"Afterwards, the delegation visited the CHP's provincial headquarters", the same article reads later on.

Same word complete different setting. This use has never bothered me before, just struck me as nor the best word in this specific context, as hundred of thousands are protesting and some other thousands have been jailed.

Alternatively, EU delegation spoke with/ checked on Omaglu, would've made more sense to me, here.

Syria's president al-Sharaa forms new transitional government

Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a transitional government on Saturday, appointing 23 ministers in a broadened cabinet seen as a key milestone in the transition from decades of Assad family rule and to improving Syria's ties with the West.

Syria's new Sunni Islamist-led authorities have been under pressure from the West and Arab countries to form a government that is more inclusive of the country's diverse ethnic and religious communities.

  • "Meanwhile, the broader population remains skeptical, with the most common concern being that adopting the euro could drive up prices and lower living standards, the dorzeczy.pl website reported."

Well I guess that could be true. Especially, when business owners abuse the conversion to get the prices higher ( that happened in my country after the adoption, then later they had to lower it cause many stopped buying). In general though it should make things cheaper, according to the theory.

Maybe, it's also about identity and being sceptical to the EU in general.

Refusal to Ease Sanctions Shows EU Doesn't Want Peace, Kremlin Says

The Kremlin said Friday that the European Union’s refusal to lift sanctions on Russia demonstrates the bloc is not interested in an end to the war in Ukraine.

Moscow has demanded that the West remove sanctions from the state-owned Rosselkhozbank as a precondition for restoring a deal on the safe passage of Ukrainian cargo through the Black Sea

In case there still are some people thinking that Russia wants peace; here's their narrative.

The dream is becoming reality. At least for the media talking heads who take their orders at weekly meetings in the Kremlin. The US is aligning with Russia’s outlook, they say. Now, Russia can begin to imagine a just punishment for its old enemies in Europe’s democracies(..)

He [Sardaryan] urged Moscow to focus on fomenting “anti-war movements” that will block the roads and impede the functioning of freely elected parliaments across Europe, and “destabilize the situation in all the countries that dare to act against Russia’s interests.”

Note: this article by Center for European Policy Analysis is about what Russian (propaganda) media is saying, as a mean to analyse what's going on in Putin's head.

Also, in light of the implications of the content found in recent leaked US signal app group info, it reaffirms an anti-European sentiment ( Europhobia), which appears to be shared by Moscow.

In an interview with pro-Trump journalist Tucker Carlson, Witkoff praised Vladimir Putin, saying he "liked" the Russian president.
