Analyzing Eredivisie; Did Ajax actually have a tough schedule and PSV an easy schedule?

Being alone at the office at lunch has its advantages. I get to do a tiny bit of analyzing instead of socializing. After matchday 10 Ajax is rock-bottom of the league and PSV has won all their games. There's a 8 point gap already between the fourth and fifth place and it looks like our subtop has vanished this year. However, 10 games can give a very skewed look if you play against 'easy' or just 'hard' opponents. So I decided to see who has had an easier time and who has had a harder time. The main thing that kept being said was that Ajax has had a tough schedule and PSV has had it easy. While a look at the fixtures will mostly answer that question, I wanted to see how much of that rings true and compare it to other teams around them.

Method

I downloaded all the finished fixtures from a football data site and started working on the numbers. All teams got a strength number between 0 to 1 based on their current position on the lea

  • Most obvious appointment since he was supposedly joining the technical department anyway.

Never really been impressed by him, so I wonder what will happen to this Ajax team. First half yesterday showed that more is definitely possible, but that second half showed why it hasn't happened yet.

With the program that they've had I feel like they should easily make their way up again, a bit like what happened last year with Heitinga. They've got 12 more loss points than Feyenoord, but only 4 more loss points than the number 5. Fifth should be easily in reach, but I wonder if top 4 can still be achieved. Ajax have had crazier comebacks, so I wouldn't put it passed them to suddenly turn up again. However, there is so much wrong with this team that they really need to start quickly

  • This was also about the banner that the UEFA didn't allow from the supporters which probably made a mockery of that moment from last year. He called the stadium something along the lines of a mental hospital, so I'm sure the supporters will be calm and collected this time.

There were nets along the whole stadium, except for that side because of the tv cameras. Now they just leave those stands empty as far as I know.

  • Really hope some attacking power comes back next time, this really was bad. 4-3-3 after halftime looked good for 15 minutes, but not that convincing otherwise.

Also, how was that last one not a pen? He clearly clips his leg, did he hit the ball a tiny bit or something?
