I have only 16 gb of RAM but I can open 20 tabs on Firefox!
So what’s the alternative to Lemmy? IRC? It seems like every social media platform has problems.
Me reading the headline: 📈📈📈📉
I’ve wondered that myself, but I’ve come to the conclusion that transgender individuals seem to value their privacy more than the average person. This is all due to increased cyber bullying to them online. Linux is well known for being free from data collection (except Ubuntu) and corporate greed, so it would make sense if this was an operating system of choice.
He had been training for that moment his entire life.
I took a small hiatus from Lemmy and came back to this- what is happening?
As a zoomer myself, I’m afraid that this graph is inaccurate
That is what dual boot is for!
It is definitely a nazi salute, but what if he didn’t mean it this way? Elon is supposedly on the spectrum, so he could have done it to show his excitement, without realizing the true meanings and implications. Of course it’s possible that he did in fact know what he was doing, if so then it’s a completely different story….
I’m probably going to look at Dell or Lenovo for a next laptop, they tend to be of higher quality. Plus old thinkpads are fast and inexpensive, so I may start looking at eBay for a good deal.
The current picture is of a browser (Floorp).
I haven’t ever been playing media when it happens, so I’m not sure. Also yes, I have tried plugging in external monitors, or trying to ssh in, but none work. It’s as if the computer freezes as well.
No one: Laptop. Could this be hardware or software related?
This has happened 3 times in the past 2 days, any advice? It goes away after reboots but always comes back.
Update: So it could be GPU death, how exciting, especially for a 1.5 year old laptop. As of now it hasn’t terribly affected my workflow, but if this persists even after future kernel/driver updates, it may be rip. I am still hopeful that it could be software related, but time will tell!
This one is a little more interesting
Update 2: I was using Windows for testing purposes, and it happened again! This was immediately after picking the laptop up, so it is definitely hardware related. This time it made a horrible noise as well, answering some of the questions. So somehow by picking the device up, maybe the internals are slightly bent, causing the issues?
Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting COVID, flu and mpox shots
Louisiana, my home state, is banning the promotion of certain vaccines by public health workers. This seems to be in preparation for the upcoming Trump administration.
This was a wtf moment for me. Even though Discord’s privacy isn’t the best, and even though it’s proprietary, Discord has been seemingly loyal to its user base, even doing cool stuff like offering a Linux version of the app. However, if this becomes mandatory, I will promptly leave, I am horrified that they have fallen this low.
Anyone with half a brain can see that it isn’t “glorifying” violence, it’s merely giving an explanation of why Luigi did what he did. Glorification would play more into pathos, but the manifesto is mostly ethos
Hey when I was 12 I- hold on a second!
While I agree that the murder of the CEO can be morally justified in certain aspects, we have to face the facts. Murder is murder, and I believe glorification of it is wrong. Wouldn’t the killing of a CEO just lead to the appointment of another, making the whole thing pointless? It’s possible that a new CEO will do things differently, but they’d probably do more or less the same. In the end, all the murder achieves is CEOs fearing for their safety and eventually hiring bodyguards, making them even more disconnected from society, and even less likely to donate to charity or the poor. For these reasons, I think lemmy.world is doing the right thing, I don’t think that murder of anyone not convicted of war crimes should be glorified, I’d prefer to stay neutral on such topics.
This really is a Liminal Space; it’s transitional and temporary (it’s a train station), and from what I can see, it is devoid of any life. I am surprised the post got so little attention.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who watched this movie, and to think Linux users did too!
Reddit morals vs Lemmy morals in the greentext community
I recently came across a Reddit post with a greentext also posted here a few weeks before (by me). While the one here got downvoted, the one on Reddit got over two thousand upvotes. Don’t take me wrong however, this has led me to realize how much morals differ between the two platforms; it seems to me like Lemmings have overall better morals in general. I’ve come to appreciate this. Evidence like this shows how much better Lemmy is as a community (excluding lemmygrad) when compared to Reddit. Instead of becoming what you swore to destroy, you became better a better version. I thought you all would find this interesting.
“Nome” or “guh-nome,” that is the question
In my opinion, technology keeps improving, however that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s getting better. I think innovation in technology peaked from the 2000s to the early 2010s, after this period however, it has continually become more and more “enshitified,” meaning that features no one wanted suddenly being added. For example, “ai coffee maker” (this is real), like who asked for this? Not to mention, not only is everything more bloated, but levels of privacy have decreased significantly; every aspect of your digital life is capitalized on for advertising. The early 2010s were simpler times.
Discord says it shouldn’t have to comply with the order.
Discord defends itself against efforts to stop piracy on its platform by saying no to more invasive data collection. Even though Discord isn’t exactly known for privacy, this is a great move for its users. What are your thoughts?
A gift from my grandmother.
It’s the complete far side! I thought this community would appreciate it.
