The PM says he "struggles" with how the Office for Budget Responsibility calculates the impact his policies.

Correct.
They are where you'll find the deeply ignorant, xenophobic, Daily Mail readers frothing at the mouth and red in the face with anger over how "forriners" are lazy criminals that come here to claim benefits for them and their 16 kids, while simultaneously stealing all the jobs and homes from "hard working British families" (read: "British benefit claimants out of work and living in grothole housing owned by a local slumlord").
Because the wearing of poppies has become synonymous with the now defunct BNP and the rest of the British right wing for a lot of us.
You can thank Stephen Yaxley-Lennon for that.
What is this?! Nuanced thoughts that recognise that everyone is an arsehole? On my internet?!
💛
I mean, current "Labour" are as tight with British capitalists as the Tories. That in mind, this behaviour does actually come as a surprise in some ways. That they're simply saying what they think will be popular is also very on-brand for what "Labour" are now though, so there's that.
We can't afford therapy.
The problem is that short term bit.
Given how wide Farage is willing to part the nation's collective arse cheeks for US conservatives, and that the US is doing things like "creating a database of every autistic person to track them" (Source), that "short term" may well be absolutely horrific.
Exactly so.
"Lobbyists"
You mean people paid to find ways to coerce, cajole, convince, bribe, and buy politicians for "private enterprise".
Our government is more convinced by lobbyists than by you who gave them their power. Time to remind them who they work for yet?
I simply don't know. I am ignorant of how continental governments manage this problem, or if they are suffering the same fate at all.
I do know that the French National Electricity supplier EDF, is owned by the French government and operates here, making vast profits that benefit the French.
I have no issue with the French, past the friendly banter that hangs off the back of centuries of shared history. Honestly, we Brits could do with being more like the French. That is to say; willing to bring the whole fucking country to it's knees when the politicians do something they don't like.
Perhaps it will take a British version of the French Revolution to jnstil the populace with that kind of fortitude, confidence, and sense of duty to each other?
I will again point out how much change for the good would come of the Houses of Parliament burning to the ground, provided "we the people" are responsible for the event.
No, this isn't corruption. This is capitalism at work. Nothing illegal per se, just privatisation doing what it does; feeding money to "shareholders".
Edit: Don't get me wrong, the absolutely rife corruption and nepotism infesting every choice on your voting forms doesn't help matters in any way, shape, or form. But even if you managed to strip that away, private enterprise by it's very nature maximises profits at the expense of all else, services rendered, products produced, people employed, all suffer for profit's sake.
The reason your pint and a packet of crisps costs what it does is huge multinationals buying all the breweries out, buying all the pubs out, buying all the land the pubs are standing on.
Those huge companies then squeeze every last drop of profit out of everything, leaving very little product, at a very high price.
Exactly the same thing is what's wrong with every single government service, from the very tippy top, to absolute rock bottom, it is all run by private entities whose sole purpose is to extract maximum profit above all else.
Prisons, railways, schools, GPs and dental surgeries, hospitals, power infrastructure, public transport, road construction and maintenance, everything is subject to the same problem; private enterprise leeching money and resources away from it's intended purposes towards those that have more than they can spend in a million lifetimes back to back.
All the major political parties in the UK for the last 40 years have done the same thing, sold off what was yours to private companies so they can profit off you coming and going.
Until we the people of this poxy island remind the politicians who they work for, you will continue to be bent over a barrel and buggered for all you're worth.
Edit: Worth pointing out here that the entire benefits system in run by private companies leeching billions of pounds a year out of the benefit budget for themselves. The real benefits scroungers are capita, g4s, serco, et al.
I've been calling the cybertruck the Homer since it's release. So apt.
Any guesses as to what effect pulling loads of people's PIP is going to have on this situation?
😐

"Treasure"?
Your Russian terminology gives you away comrade.
Off you fuck.

The current country is a highly corrupt oligarchy that keeps it's citizens ignorant, imprisons those that dare speak out, and ensures there is zero internal political resistance to the regime continuing it's brutal and bloody status quo.
The US is rapidly heading the same way, the wannabe Oligarchs in the US seeing Russia as an example to follow.
Get your head out of your arse.
I didn't say he was right about everything. I agree with his designs on the Houses of Parliament, and think he had the right idea on that front.
Hang on, I thought it was the judges job to interpret the law, and the politicians' job to write it.
Why is he "welcoming clarity" that contradicts his previous statements on the matter?
Unless, of course, this was always his intended outcome, and his previous position was purely to curry favour to get into power.
How much more proof do we need of this awful person's (that took some willpower) duplicity and willingness to throw people under the bus to score political points do we need? (This show of his is purely for the US conservative audience, if it didn't click)
He is just another lying scumbag in a long line of lying scumbags that purport to be from both sides of the political divide. Solely interested in perpetuating the same old bullshit, maintaining the status quo, keeping the same pockets forever lined, the very foundations of conservatism.
Nothing will change until we force it to. Tories, "Labour", Lib Dems, Reform (lmao), all the same pack of pigs looking to keep their snouts in the trough of the City Of London.
Guy Fawkes was right.
I don't disagree, but unless we can manage the stupid, democracy will always die to lowest common denominator populism.
It vibrates relatively the same, depending on how much of it there is nearby. ;)
Is this some kind of US thing I'm to UK to understand?
Starmer berates independent body (his own government made it law to listen to) for poking holes in his benefit cuts.
The PM says he "struggles" with how the Office for Budget Responsibility calculates the impact his policies.
The Tory at the helm of the Labour party is now at odds with the OBR over it's analysis of the latest round of shafting the most vulnerable people in society to cover tax cuts for US multinationals that don't pay tax and avoiding increasing taxes on the millionaires literally asking for it.
(My first Lemmy post, did I do it right?)
