  • And when they hit you with the real stick it really hurts

  • Windows is only getting harder to control and Linux is easier than ever to get on board and learn. Are we at a tipping poing? Maybe. With what Valve is doing for PC gaming, Microsoft's introduction of Recall for Windows 11 and killing off (for home users at least) Windows 10 in October, who knows, maybe we'll look back and see 2025 was the year of the Linux desktop.

  • As a Tailscale user, I don't understand how it helps with torrenting--don't you typically control all the nodes? Or is there some way to configure a third party exit node?

  • Move slow and break things

  • Permanently Deleted

  • Deus Vomitus

  • Even the author says Flatpak is a sandbox.

The most simple but also least effective sandbox type is the container or wrapper sandbox that builds an isolated process environment and then executes the target application inside.

Flatpak provides an isolated runtime environment using a container type sandbox to execute the target application inside.

... there are two issues that prevent flatpak from providing a real sandbox environment...

Just that it's no true scotsman, I mean sandbox.

  • I don't know, non-violent work strikes can be effective.

  • I have grave concerns about Peter Dutton in government.

  • Fedora Silverblue because I seem to break any system I have eventually, and this one’s still going.

  • Yep, same, it's even a 1522+! I had some concerns going in, but had a good prior experience with a 216j that someone gave me for free (I still rate the 216j as a small RAID1 box). I heard the spiel that the Synology DSM OS was worth it, but honestly it has shortcomings, uses old technology and is not very adaptable. Fine if you just want to plug and play, but next time I'm going back to Proxmox and will give TrueNAS a go.

  • I fell for it again with Chutkan and then again with Merchan. People need to go to prison.

  • Yeah, hopefully we can just buy cheap panels and put it together how we want. If that also opened up options for hackers to build entirely new display applications, or in new ways, that would be the dream.

  • For this use case, using an alternative like Redlib, libreddit etc is probably a better experience than being able to access Reddit.

  • They won the Battle of Britain with invisible military tech they invented, so it's not that surprising.

  • You can alway upsell them on bee ears to hold the glasses on

  • But that's the thing: televisions are complex and can be very difficult to repair, so what do you do when you can't buy a dumb replacement anymore? I have the same issue with cars. I would like to replace ours with an EV, but they are a privacy nightmare whereas my car's peak technology is FM radio.

I was thinking earlier today about how much technology waste there is because old stuff is superseded so quickly. Maybe in future we will treasure the tech we had before it all went to shit.

A movement that wanted to merge North America into one nation and extend its borders as far as the Panama Canal might sound incredibly familiar. But this group, called the “technocracy movement”, was a group of 1930s nonconformists with big ideas about how to rearrange US society. They proposed a vision that would get rid of waste and make North America highly productive by using technology and science.

Hung parliament could see crossbench seek NACC reforms after backflip on robodebt decision

Crossbenchers including teal independents and the Greens say they will attempt to reform the federal corruption watchdog in the event of a hung parliament. The watchdog announced today it would reverse its decision not to investigate corruption allegations brought to it by the robodebt royal commission against six public servants.

    Diablo/Hellfire source port

DevilutionX is a source port of Diablo and Hellfire that strives to make it simple to run the game while providing engine improvements, bugfixes, and some optional quality of life features. This includes support for modern operating systems and higher resolutions, controller and touch control support, translations, stash, optional experience and enemy health bars, etc.

Note: DevilutionX requires data files from original Diablo/Hellfire. By default, a demo version of Diablo is installed.

Every few years I go back to the original, and each time it's been more difficult. From mucking with launcher settings to running it in a Windows XP VM, this time is different. A one-click install on Linux and a copy of diabdat.mpq later, I am amazed how easy it was (and how many quality-of-life options there are).

    Planter boxes

If you are using larger planter boxes, what material and size did you choose? I have a basically rectangular balcony and would like to put a planter box across each of the short ends, perhaps wooden or even concrete. Any wisdom from experience out there?
