"The Pitt" — a critically acclaimed medical drama starring Noah Wyle, but not that one — finished its 15-episode first season last week. Pop Heist's Matthew Jackson unpacks its appeal. "This is, arguably more than any other streaming series out there right now, a show that thrives on the classic serialized TV model — and it works so well that every other TV creator out there should sit up and take note," he writes.

The second annual Cybertruck Rodeo took place in Central Texas on April 12. @TexasMonthly talked to attendees about why people can't detach Elon Musk's politics from his products, what other drivers do when they see these vehicles on the road, and how things are going — right now, Tesla has around $200 million worth of unsold Cybertruck inventory.

Trump backed down yesterday on some of his more dramatic tariffs, but that's no comfort to the many small business owners who are already being affected. Jeff Logan runs a tattoo supply business in Philadelphia and says it's now at risk of closing after more than 30 years because the price of needles, which are made in China, has skyrocketed. Ido Tuchman runs a company in San Diego that makes optical scanning equipment. His latest shipment of aluminum parts had a tariff fee of $2,483 added to a $3,380 order. “The end result is real small businesses, mom and pop shops, we're the ones that get put under,” Logan told @Independent. “Amazon doesn't feel the hurt, Walmart doesn’t feel it. We do."

  • @[email protected] Somewhat less erudite but the same issue exists for two intersecting Michael Connelly series: Harry Bosch (owned by Amazon) and Lincoln Lawyer (owned by Netflix)!

  • @[email protected] Yes, it was a favorite in a poll we ran previously (though we do remember others pointing out it shouldn't really be viewed as a true adaptation of the source material!).

  • @[email protected] It is incredible! Though with four seasons of six episodes, around 50 minutes each, you'll need to reserve 20 hours or so! Reminds us of when we watched an entire season of "24" in 24 hours — it led to some very odd dreams!

There's one business that's thriving thanks to the chaos that surrounds Elon Musk: Mad Puffer Stickers, which makes anti-Elon bumper stickers for Teslas. @HeatmapNews spoke to its founder, Matthew Hiller, about why he started the enterprise, what's happened since Nov. 5, and the most popular design. "At one point it was beating both Trump and Kamala stickers. And I was like, 'That’s insane. People hate Elon more than they love Trump or Kamala?'"

IndieWire's Carole V. Bell says that the movies many of us think of in terms of Black film are from the 1960s, at the earliest. But when curator Doris Berger looked through the archives of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, she found a treasure trove that dated back to the 1890s. She and National Museum of African American History and Culture film and photography curator Dr. Rhea Combs collaborated on “Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898 to 1971,” which is now on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Here's a look at what to expect from the exhibition, as well as where to start if you want to explore early Black movies.
