His right-wing populism and PR dollars are extremely good at getting him re-elected. Ontarians continue to fall for it and blame all of his failures on Trudeau while forgiving his scandals and blatant corruption.
Education is a provincial responsibility which is in trouble under the Ontario and Alberta conservative premiers. Doug Ford was a highschool hash dealer, didn't go to university, inherited his dad's company, then became a conservative politician. So it's unsurprising that he sees no value in education.
It says a lot about the current state of the party that this is the first assumption many people make.
Tesla has created a vacuum since nobody wants to buy their swastikars outside of the USA, and there's international support to buy Canadian. We have the steel, aluminum, and minerals for batteries domestically. I could see it working.

Not OP - their smugness didn't help and you can use whatever means of transport you prefer. But to be fair, I do know people who have kids and use a cargo bike to do everything. This is a viable option for many city-dwellers. Sadly, we are still very car dependant in Canada for longer trips since rail between cities has been underinvested in and suburban sprawl is out of control.
