  • I get it, but look at it this way, most of those shows do not show the rich and powerful in a flattering light E.g. Succession. So you could interpret it as Hollywood trying to shatter the glitz and glamor persona that the rich have always enjoyed.

  • I constantly refer to my parents and in-laws as children. Why? Because they behave exactly like my 11 year old. They have no critical reasoning skills, no emotional intelligence, are easily offended, and can not be reliability left on their own without screwing something up.

At some point around retirement age, humans seem to cognitively revert back to children and those of us in middle adulthood are left to parent our actual children and our childish parents.

  • I get that the book title adds another layer of humor, but it could literally be any book. Those morons don't know how to read and wouldn't crack open a book even with their cheeto overlord on the cover.

  • Perhaps partly, my personal belief is the is traces back to early tribal days. I believe the first cultural leaders likely struggled with retaining control and authority at a certain point. After all, there is only so much you can threaten people with to keep them in like. The worse of which is death. A sufficiently motivated person may not care about their physical well-being if they want to achieve a important enough goal. Create an invisible "soul" and a space wizard that determines if that soul gets bliss or torture after death and it adds a new level of control.

  • Street noted

  • I really don't understand why there hasn't been a hostile takeover to boot him out of the company yet. Capitalism is all about money, money, money and "shareholder value", yet they keep letting him tank that company into the ground.

  • I mean, that's just the history of the US anyway. Remember, the puritans were "escaping" "persecution" for there religious beliefs from Europe. Those beliefs were so incredibly strict, conservative, and restrictive that no one wanted those nut jobs around. Oh, look, 250 years later and their descendants are still afraid of a nipple.

  • A Step Up

  • I truly understand both sides here. I have an autistic child and while all the love and pride in them is genuinely there and we make conscious effort to vocalize that to them regularly, life with a neurodivergent child is hard and incredibly frustrating a lot of the time. Bedtime is usually the worst, which means that by the time they go down you have reached or surpassed your limit.

One of the most frustrating things as a neurodivergent parent is that the majority of your social group will have zero understanding of what you go through on a daily basis. That means that often times the only person you can vent to is your partner.

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it must be a duck. My favorite part is : "We are not white trash. That’s what everyone is saying about us, but we’re not." if EVERYONE says it, odds are it is probably true.
