Great response. We're not far apart on why we are where we are. I really hope Dem leadership is considering major changes to address the beat down they got in Nov.
My model is based on what won the last election.
- The border
- Prices at the grocery store. It's ridiculous but it is what it is.
You make a good point. There are many factors at play, but if Democrats think centrist is establishment then we need to change that because your right, that won't win anything
Your examples of caving... Attacking Trumps border policy - but... Biden was president?! And Democrats did nothing to fix the problem. Yes, border control is a problem. We needed a leader and got nothing.
LGBTQ rights. I'm sorry to have to say this, but that's not going to win you an election. Democrats (and me personally) can continue to support LGBTQ rights, but you can't make it one of your primary platform.
Look at it this way... You need a sales pitch for purple and red districts that speaks on their issues. And go there and sell it!
- Live and let live policies for the people
- Do a better job of advertising your successes fighting for workers rights and pay.
...and so on.
Hell, watch Fox news for a few hours a day, take a shower, then build your plan to beat the Republicans on their own turf.
And this is what's wrong with the party. You need to win red districts. Neither of these women will.
Yeah. I know she's terrible. It's not the hand job that I'm against, she's terrible as a congress critter. My point is, his message did land in a solid red district. She moved to the eastern side of the state to keep her seat.
Sanders?... Maybe. AOC... No freaking way.
You want a centrist that Dems should listen to? See Adam Frisch in my state. Almost beat Boebert TWICE in her home county.
This is just wrong. Go look at what swayed voters. The fact is, she never broke from Biden.
- The border was a shit show.
- The stock market isn't the economy. Egg prices matter (it's ridiculous but true for voters, and yes, I know it was bird flu related)
- People trust R's more when it comes to the economy
- Many voters see Democrats as intolerable over educated snobs... That's how they address 'the deplorables'.
- She ran on a platform that speaks TO DEMOCRATS and not the greater population.
Centrist is not evil, it's necessary to win elections. How many maps do you need to see to figure out you need to win some red districts? Support the fringe but run on a platform that speaks to the middle. Or.. keep doing what your doing and never hold more than a minor majority again.
Then they will freaking lose and deserve it. They surveyed Democratic voters. You want reality? You lost to the worst candidate in the history of voting in this country. WAKE THE HELL UP!
Maybe take some police and the court order / decision to the event and force your way in. Then, hold the highest ranking host of the event who is NOT Trump, in contempt and throw them in a shitty jail for a week.
Herbstluftwm with dmenu. Just a windows manager. I've gotten used to using the command line for things I used to rely on a DE for.
Honestly, I'm not impressed. This is in DENVER. Take it to a blood red district and show me the numbers. This is not where Dems need to spend their time.
Thanks to all for the responses.. and thanks for this detailed response. I have a habit of making simple things complicated... Which it looks like I did in this case.
I also completely agree on Chimera. It's such a solid distro.

Questions on container platforms
I am running Chimera Linux which I really love for a bunch of reasons. I have a need to run a few applications that are not going to work with MUSL, and are not presently offered via flatpak. Thus, containers I think are my go-to. II was thinking of spinning up a minimal Void linux to use these apps. I don't have experience running containers at this point and have struggled to understand how to interact with them.
I like simple, and Chimera offers the following solutions -
- Containerd
- Podman
- Bubble wrap
- Chroot
I am pretty sure I can get away with a terminal only setup for these apps, but what if I need a GUI? Is there a good choice among these for security? Resources are not at a premium on my laptop. What do you prefer and why?
TIA!
It says nothing about removing pennies from circulation. They're just going to stop making new ones.
I'm down for this 'change' :D
Another pointless article.
- Polls are crap. Who answers those calls? The same damn people over and over.
- The results are " strong feelings" or " nearly 50%" !?!?
I usually ignore motherj articles anyway.... Guess I can keep doing that
It is what it is at this point, and as usual, Democrats will completely mis-read the room and rant about shit that won't win them the midterms. The best we can hope for is TheIdiot falling flat on his face.
Literally, from the article:
It was also not immediately known how many of the fired prosecutors intended to challenge the terminations by arguing that the department had cast aside civil service protections afforded to federal employees
That tells me federal employees have different rules and they may have a path to make things uncomfortable for a while. Whether that's worth the effort is up to them.
GrapheneOS on a Pixel 9 Pro. It's nice to have better control over what data is leaving my device. Updates / patches from upstream AOSP are usually offered in GOS in the same timeframe it takes to hit regular Pixels.

Thank you Michael. Hopefully you're only writing checks for 4 years.
I disagree with your premise that this is all evil corp. The fact is that demand drives housing. Someone is going to buy and build on that property. Full stop.
I am not aware of any fire proofing techniques for homes in a situation like this. References please.
As mentioned above, we've had nearly 100 years of fire suppression practices that kept fuel from burning. I'm not sure how else to mitigate the properties other than clearing all trees and bushes. I don't think it would help in this situation.
I agree that climate change is a problem and a contributing fsctor.
I've been running Chimera for about 8 months and love it. I'm very picky about package managers, and APK is up there with xbps (Void) in performance.
Almost everything I need I can run via flatpack. There are a few apps that I miss. They have a guide for porting them but I got lost last time I tried to get everything setup.
I thought about just running a container for those apps, but got lost in that setup too :). I'm waiting for some winter westher to hit so I have an excuse to stay inside and play with it.
Yeah. So you, myself, and some others are the exception to the rule. But, you can't look at it that way because its a 'lowest common denominator' problem. The least secure of us means we are all only as secure. Others need to be hand held.
It's definitely time to raise all boats and drop SMS 2fa like a hot rock.
I hope Gen Z shows up. I don't buy into poll results.

XBPS has spoiled me - advice needed.
One of the few things that differentiates the major distros is the package manager. I've been running void on my laptop for the last 3 years and love it. XBPS is super fast and easy to use. It has never left me with a broken system either. That said, I've got the itch to switch.
I am looking at rolling / up to date distros. I'm inclined to use CLI when available.
I've been considering Opensuse, but last time I used zypper it was painfully slow. Has it gotten any better?
I was thinking of trying Alpine, how is APK?
Not interested in *butu, but apt seemed okay.
What's your favorite and how does it behave?

How do I setup my name for posts in other instances?
I see a lot of users who post have @nameblah@instancetheiraccountison, which I think is very handy when posting in other instances. Did I miss a step in my account setup? How do I set my name up in the same manor? TIA
