  • Yes I hear this all the time. So what you are saying is that 1)people in Europe don't have jobs and 2)the population density in us is low. Regarding 2) yes it is lower in the US however Washington dc and surrounding area (maybe 2h drive by car or so) have several million inhabitants. Let's assume 5, if only 1% of them are going we would be talking about at least 50.000 people joining a protest. I don't have seen any reports about that, are those just not reported?

  • For any German, correctiv should be a must go to...although it's not necessarily daily news but rather weekly and investigative journalism. Politico.eu for europeans, deutschlandfunk, Tagesschau, lemmy, reddit

But as some people have hinted as well... Visiting news sites nowadays can only make you depressed really...

  • Getting children and realizing that privacy is important with all the data leaks, misuse of data, maybe not having their pictures and videos out there, trained on, misused. That's when degoogling started and with it quitting fb and Twitter and looking for alternatives. I am still lurking on LinkedIn and reddit though. But using foss redreader, reddit is actually still quite nice as a link aggregator and information source. And well , although LinkedIn has degraded so much over the last years, it somehow still seems to be a good source of information for everything job related.

But as this was my last straw, how do you see the future? Teenagers will still be teenagers and they will be urged to use anything that is popular due to peer pressure. When I am thinking of that, it will probably be an impossible undertaking to prevent them of using any of these platforms

  • Why are you downvoted? I am from Germany and you are totally right. With a lot of people in Germany this will 100 percent backfire. The educated already knew that Elon is a garbage nazi, the others will more so believe how he is such a cool guy and the savior of the planet

  • Can you give more detail? I was a lifetime windows user and recently switched. I'm running Linux mint and steam and every game I tried on it was working as expected (admittedly my samplesize is not that big but from what I remember hades 2, slay the spire, horizon zero dawn, doom, civ5, rimworld, pal world were tried. No difference to windows. Maybe not the newest aaa games...)

  • How fast are response times and how useful are the answers of these open source models that you can run on a low end GPU? I know this will be a "depends" answer, but maybe you can share more of your experience. I often use Claude sonnet newest model and for my use cases it is a real efficiency boost if used right. I once mid of last year tested briefly an open source model from meta and it just wasn't it. Or do we rather have to conclude that we'll have to wait for another year until smaller open source models are more proficient?
