  • This drives me nuts. I used to pirate stuff for a fee (still do occasionally) and I would only do transfer with thumbdrives.

  • Honestly, people are rightfully concerned about Microsoft locking down machines, and hackers, and rightfully so, but I think the real insanity is that I do really think LLMs is a tech bubble that I fully expect to burst, and attempting to redesign our lives around it will feel as silly as web3 in 2025.

  • Thats almost the same thing. Or like, youtube will play anything as an ad, and people let it run for their kids (and more notably the elderly let it run, and have no idea).

  • Three times a week Ill make overnight Oats. the rest, Yogurt

  • Old world of Darkness had a few splats in different time periods, including Vampire: the Dark ages, which might suit your needs or give you ideas. You could probably cobble together some kind of Berserk esqe setting.

  • If you want some of that DnDness, I really liked 13th age, and Fanatsycarft. They are on opposite sides of the complexity spectrum. I liked those more than either PF. Ryutama taught me a lot of things about RPGs but a half assed combat system means I can't recommend it., especially for a longer campaign. However if you're interested in something on the experimental side, then I think its perfectly lovely for a one shot.

Daggerheart is new, and Im not particularly interested in CR, so I haven't really checked out Daggerheart beyond a cursory scan of the PDF.

I enjoyed the heck out of Icon. Exalted is also fun for your fantasy needs. Its a different flavor from dnd though, both mechanically and the kinds of stories they want you to tell. If you're looking for more flexible, open ended stories, fantasy or otherwise, I really liked Fate Accelerated.

Thats just if youre looking on the fantasy side of things. On the Sci fi side, Ive been playing Cyberpunk Red and really liking it (although fatigue has yet to set in.) I really liked Shadowrun 4e, and I recommend that to anyone who wants to dip into that (Karmagen optional rule and Chummer.exe are you best friends). Lancer is a heck of a thing.

  • I think it would have been more of a thing if RSE had online support. If you were just playing through by yourself then it was just kind of meaningless, but the main point was when you linked with someone, their secret base was brought into your game, along with their current team. They would occupy that base, and you could battle them. Imagine if the game brought a smattering of bases from the internet? Even a gen later.

I know that GF built pokemon around the link cable, but I feel like they overestimated how many of my friends would be playing.

  • I was gonna ask, hey you guys I just got here, whats going on with the Uighurs?

  • Did you say 'beer' or 'deer?'

  • Homer gives up beer for a month?

  • I mean yes, but this is still interesting because, unlike the other ghouls, Green seems to... believe in something?

  • he also co founded Vice news!

  • Not just their professional trades. Cultivate skills. Cooking, repair, gardening, etc.

  • Also aren't digital currencies like, the opposite of useful as mediums of exchange? They cost money to transfer, take hours for a transfer to go through, and are volatile enough that that hours long window is enough for value to fluctuate that someone could be ahead or behind hundreds or thousands of dollars on the transactions before it's even complete.

  • the way I see it, yes but this is worth paying attention to is that this seems to be an escalation. Greta is white and privileged, sure, but she is those things and she is famous. Like anything that happens to her will garner mainstream attention. And if something if they do really bad to her (like kill or SA her) it will put a huge negative spotlight on them in a way I dont think they realize. Like Charlie Kirk was a racist dickhead with tiny face memes for years but my dad didnt ask me who he was until like 2 weeks ago.

  • Im gonna say that this is why Batman Forever is my favorite Batman movie. There is this scene where the badguys rip a bank vault out of the wall, and by the end of the scene batman uses an explosive to have fly back into place. My point is, Batman needs to take place in a pulpy hyper reality, or he goes from a Doc Savage in a cool costume to a mentally insane Billionaire karate chopping poor people because as punishment.

Also, in that movie, they took pains to portray him as a "Good" ceo.

I just think this is an issue of tone and presentation.

  • I have been using yt.dlp with links generated through freetube. This is the first Ive heard of a desktop version for Grayjay Ill check it and consider a license.

  • Ive always considered giving money to record companies immoral. When I was young I would download whole albums "for context." Moving away from tormenting, I just download singles from youtube. I can also download playlists. They just live on my sd chip in my phone

  • My dad always leaned center-left, and he's only gotten slightly lefter as I reach middle age and get very left. I'm very fortunate. My mom is long dead but I would like to think she would be on board too.

The real bugbear is my extended family, typified by dad's sister and her family. Always leaned into the Rush Limbaugh right, but really she isn't so much visibly MAGA as she is aggressively Zionist. It happens with a lot of Jewish boomers; Does 'Never again' mean for everyone, or just for the Jews?

Anyways, I was a protest at our local holocaust center in 2018, protesting the detention camps on the border. The proudboys and others were counter protesting. I told her about it, and she just said,

"They cant use that word, thats our word!" "You know who would agree with you? The nazis?" "What do you mean?" "They were there! I have pictures!"

Anyways, shes been surface level cordial ever since.
