I mostly interact with FB through Caprine, to talk to like 4 or 5 people who are still on it. Other than that I sometimes ask my sister to check for things on Market place but thats it.
There are a lot of classics I like. DM of the Rings. I got really into Megatokyo for a while. I see that guy at conventions and say hello, even though I fell off when I was still a teenager. I remember Loserz being good, before he moved it behind a paywall along with his porn. These days I like Gatordays, Red Dot, and Poorly Drawn Lines.
A lot of the porn subs on Lemmy are less trafficked. If you are belong to any of them, try sorting by "subscribed" and "hot" or "new." Also subscribe to more of them.
Horny people have rights... for now
All of these things are correct, but I would like to posit there was a specific era when it actually became intolerable, and that was about 2013 or so. It was a gradual process, but you noticed more and more "normal threads" getting hijacked and brigaded. Baw threads, or threads where people would post tumblr core sad images (mostly about missing 'her') got hijacked by incels (who said something like, "shes fucking chad bro" although the incel vocabulary had yet to be calcified.) You laugh you lose (YLYL) threads got brigaded by people "banana posting" or flooding the thread with images of a specific meme of a banana opening his peel like a trench coat and "exposing" himself to a pair of apples. It was boomer shit, but their alleged point was that YLYL was cringe.
Now, were Baw and YLYL cringe? Maybe. But they were also like, "normal" threads. Normal users would come and post normal content. YLYL threads (and their cousins, Epic threads) were how board culture was preserved, posting collages of greentext posts of particularly noteworthy threads or stories or interactions. The point wasn't to point out cringe. It was to radicalize young male users who self identified as unlucky in love, to degrade board discourse so no one wanted to even post in "culture" threads, and to either radicalize the young and impressionable who might be receptive to Nazi messaging, and to push away those that were not. 4chan always tolerated Nazis, and there is an old proverb against it.
Moot used to get a ton of hate from the Nazis, because he actually tried to police them. I don't know if they targeted him or just got lucky, but they had been trying to get rid of him of a while. He left after users found his girlfriend was cheating on him, and posted the photos on 4chan. months later, trump descends a golden escalator...
I miss /tg/. it held out longest from the /pol/ siege. Like nazis would still be there, but it was still a place where you could talk about games and be reasonably sure people wouldn't talk about nazi shit. I lurked until maybe the first Trump election, whereas I had given up on the rest of the boards long before.
I have this dream that one day I'll like, sit next to him on an airplane and have a chance to ask him.
I really had a lot of fun making characters for our party in FATE but the DM had never run anything other than PF1e so we lost interest after one adventure :(
I have some normies who asked me to to break down what NFTs were and how they worked. These same people might not understand how "AI" works, (they do not), but they understand that it produces pictures and writings.
Generative AI has applications for all the paperwork I have to do. Honestly if they focused on that, they could make my shit more efficient. A lot of the reports I file are very similar month in and month out, with lots of specific, technical language (Patient care). When I was an EMT, many of our reports were for IFTs, and those were literally copy pasted (especially when maybe 90 to 100 percent of a Basic's call volume was taking people to and from dialysis.)
What do you guys normally play? Ive had PF1e groups that treat the whole thing like an engine builder, and I would not let them close to WoD. I have had groups full of filmmakers and writers and actors, that came up with factions and lore and maps for 5e and really wanted to run WoD.
Ill play
I wonder about this sometimes.
Poole knew he had a contentious base of users. I remember in 2013 or 2014, 4chan users posted photographic evidence his gf was cheating on him, and I think it broke him. I dont blame him for selling the site, but 18 months later... I wonder if Moot knew he was holding back the end of the world.
its like... getting a whiff of something I haven't felt in a long time.
Jesus was a Jew, advocating for sacrifice and mercy, versus the old Pagan gods were white perfect warriors with no compunction about slaughtering the weak to protect the volk or some bullshit. Its the same shit you hear about cultural Bolshevism or whatever.
Just like how there is Leftist in fighting, except a lot stupider and more dangerous. I keep making reference to the Night of Long Knives here
I saw it at a midnight showing at an art theater. It was a cool place, gentrification killed it and the pandemic finished it off. Anyways, the thing I remember about this movie was how the weirdness obscured the subtext, which is how the main characters, dementia addled elders, face death with dignity. I remember liking it more than I thought I would.
They arent going to listen to us until we start blowing up police cars anyway
Most of the Dems are fucking useless. The rest range into acquiescent. We have to stop this dichotomy. Dems had control and they couldn't even prevent Trump from running again, in spite of J6. They couldn't even stop deep throating Natanyahu long enough to beat him.
The Dems aren't going to save us and will have to be removed also.
You can also control +F text
Most do, sure, but it uneven. The higher the income, the higher the likelyhood of stock ownership. Do I have more in common with someone making 62k a year than someone making 100 mil? Sure. Do I understand conceptually that a recession would basically wiped me (and the entire lower class) out? Of course.
But please, understand my point.

The Fascists

I don't consider myself much of a poet. I'm more of a prose writer. I had to write one for a class, and I was inspired by the works of Imiri Baraka, Adrienne Rich, and Juliana Spahr, I wrote about a protest I had been at.

Butchers Block countertop

Hello Lemmy,
Youve been so helpful over the last few months. Maybe someone can help me with this.
I have this butchers block countertop with an undermount sink. I had it installed 18 months ago. I sealed it, and then this part was being warped and forced apart. I put in wood block, I resealed it. But as you can see, its coming apart again.
I followed all the advice of the handy men I know, including the one that installed it. The only thing I can think of is, aside from reblocking and sealing it, maybe a line of silicon around where the faucet comes up, and around the lip where the sink is flush with hole its mounted in, both things they assured me wouldn't be necessary. Should I be concerned about a leak on the underside? Am I just hosed?
(More pics of the whole set up on request)

Ceilings and joists

hello Lemmy,
Every little while I update you on my basement build as I encounter problems. I am pleased to tell you the city is out of our hair. We have gotten everything up to code.
So here is where things get weird. My roommate and I live down here in the basement. Our rooms don't have drywall or tile ceilings. Currently, our funds are exhausted, and I am not looking to pick a fight with the city over permitting with the ceilings. That's a someday kind of thing.
We would like a small modicum of noise privacy from each other though. Right now the walls go up to the top plate, and end at the joists. The joists are open, as illustrated.
I am thinking I put something in the joists. My thought was just to grab some faced fiber glass insulation, staple it in there, and cover up the other side with a piece cut out from a blanket. I was also thinking maybe some XPS, which would be easier to cut to size and shape around infrastructure. I'm worried about foam board's flammability. I wa

Drawer Slides

I bought this cheap bathroom vanity off of amazon and we assembled it. We cannot get the drawers on. These silver things get in the way. When I get them mounted in a way I feel is correct they prevent the drawer from closing all the way. I haven't dealt with anything like this.
Does anyone know how to mount it? I'm sure once its done Ill feel like an idiot for how simple it is.
Thanks

I beam trollies
Oh boy Fedi, do I have a weird one.
Ive posted here a few times regarding my basement build, and one of the handymen noted that if I am not going to cover up my ceiling, I have two exposed I beams. One runs through the kitchen, and one through a bedroom (mine). We were talking about mounting a spice rack, and he said I could mount a piece of wood on to an I beam trolly.
These things are cheap, and they are strong. What kind of fuckery can I get up to with them? Especially one in my bedroom? Is there anything ceiling mounted you just wish you could slide across the room, and back again? I'm envisioning something I can collapse against the wall.
Is this just insane?

Big swinging doors
Hello,
I have two interior doors to hang in my basement. One of my friend said he could cut/ hang them, but he suggested looking into hiring home depot's contractors install them, because I would still have to get them delivered anyway.
Okay, the problem: when I started this basement project, I hired some amateurs. They hung my walls. They eventually disappeared, and I had to finish them on my own. When they built my rough openings, they didn't even make them uniform with eachother. one of them is 38.25 by 76.75 in. One is 38.75 by 78 even.
I checked into pre hung doors, and they are all 80 inch tall, and they recommend another 2 in. Apparently interior door manufacture is controlled by a regional monopoly: anything a few inches shorter will double the price, or potentially more. And of course, add a month for the custom manufacture.
the rub is that I would have to wait an additional month for the contractors, and they want an exorbitant amount.
So I guess my question is, what

Soundproofing a Ceiling
Hello, everyone. For the past few months, I have been renovating my father's basement, building an apartment for myself. The water, electrical, subfloors, and walls are in. All that really remains are the Kitchen Sink, the kitchen floor, and the doors. (And the bathroom, but thats another can of worms. And the ceiling.
I have been going back and forth on the ceiling for a while. I have been resisting drywall, and my dad is dead set against it; there is a lot of infrastructure down there that would both make it difficult to install, and needs to remain accessible. Furthermore, its only 8feet to the joists, so losing half an inch is kind of a problem. I had considered leaving it alone. I really liked the exposed look, and was even looking into Joist Shelving.
The last few weeks have proven to me though, that I really need to soundproof the ceiling. There is an entire cottage industry on youtube based around recommending soundproofing products. I had one handyman recommend streamer foa
