Will continue working on this tomorrow, need to step away for now.
Canadian Game Developers Megathread
This megathread serves to showcase a list of Canadian game developers. This list will grow over time, and will be better organized as time goes on:
Independent Canadian Game Developers:
Check out Russian Subway Dogs by Spooky Squid Games!
A fast-paced systemic arcade game inspired by the real-life stray dogs of the Moscow metro
Spooky Squid Games is a Canadian indie game developer based out of Toronto! Russian Subway Dogs is a fun 2D game where players play as a selection of dogs and cats scavenging for food from passengers of the Moscow Metro, causing absolute chaos in the process!
The game is loads of fun, has an incredible soundtrack, and has received plenty of good reception. Try picking it up when you can!
Check out Spooky Squid Games at their website here!
Give'r Gaming - A New Lemmy Community for the Canadian Gaming Sphere!
Today I decided to go through with acting on a thought that's been sitting on my mind for about a week now:
"What if there was a community centred specifically around Canadian video games and the Canadian video game sphere?"
Give'r Gaming serves just that purpose. This community is one I hope to work on in fostering and bringing light to Canadian talents in the video game sphere. Whether it be a larger game development studio based here in Canada such as Behaviour Interactive or BioWare (unfortunately owned by EA, an American company), or smaller indie operations with cult classics such as Maddy Makes Games and their iconic game Celeste, all are welcomed in this community!
As this community grows, hopefully the list of resources available will do the same. Planned features for this community are perhaps Megathreads on Canadian developers, Canadian gaming news publishers, and perhaps even public game nights once the community grows large enough!
In any case, I hope to see y'all th
Gregoire Boys - Sons of Labrador (2011)
The Gregoire Boys are a Disco Rock group from Natuashish, Labrador, a remote Innu community in the north of the province only accessible by air. This track is a fun an enjoyable one showcasing their pride in being inhabitants of the land around them, singing in both their native tongue and English.

Yo this is fantastic! How'd you come across them?
Thanks! Wish I was able to utilise this, but unfortunately I'm not in Europe. Will see if I can reach out to my credit union however!
Well excuse me for thinking that it's not enough being done when your country is quite literally threatening to annex mine. After all these years of applauding "efforts" to no avail, perhaps it's high time I start only applauding results.
Gonna quickly ask here what the Women's March protests accomplished while I'm at it. Oh that's right, nothing but a giant virtue signal that simply died off after nothing of substance came as a result, and I'd be shocked if the "Hands Off" protests resulted in anything different.
5 million people standing outside some buildings in order for their local reps to have a brief look out the curtain as they continue to rob that crowd of their fundamental rights. If only that many more Americans went out to vote instead of not bothering to vote at all.
Also yeah, regular back and forth, totally the same as being a sugar daddy being taken advantage of, and sorry for deciding to ask a twofold question to a public community.
Americans I swear. The lack of reading comprehension shows when you're so hung up on this point that I already addressed in my original post.
What exactly do you mean by this?
ilysm - bby here i am (2022)
ilysm is a rapper from Edmonton! ilysm specializes in "noise rap" a genre of rap in which the rapper loudly or quickly spouts their lyrics over the beat to the point of being difficult to decipher. However, ilysm brings enjoyability to this genre with unserious, playful lyrics and album covers.
There's personal, private reasons involved that I'm not at liberty to disclose.
Also, literally stated in the post this is reciprocal.
Edit: You live in Denver, what the hell are you doing in this community?
Do I need a PayPal account to send money to someone via PayPal?
Hey all, in an interesting spot here.
My girlfriend is American, and while I want to reduce how much I use American services, currently deleting accounts I no longer need or have found alternatives for, her birthday is coming up, and I want to send her some funds so she can get herself a gift.
I'd send her something on my own, however because of personal reasons, we've agreed not to exchange addresses until she feels comfortable with doing so. Slow buildup of trust sorta deal.
I've sent her money through PayPal before when we got each other gifts for Christmas and Valentine's, but I've been thinking quite heavily about deleting my PayPal account. Do I need to keep my PayPal account to send her funds, or am I able to do so still without an account? Are there perhaps any ways I can send the money over without using PayPal or other American services?
Thanks for any help in advance.
EDIT: Alright y'all, go ahead and downvote me. I know why we're not exchanging addresses, and I'm not g
The Canadian Debate
Ew, AI-generated material. Gross.
Just a reminder that a Conservative vote is literally a vote to destroy Canadian culture with their plans to defund the CBC.
Either is fine! I've posted I think one French song to date. Think it would be a good idea to tag it as Francophone however. Might add it to the sidebar to tag French music, but might give it more thought since while I do want to give attention to Francophone music, I also don't want things working the other way where people are purposely ignoring Francohpone music and musicians.
Article says everybody agrees on there not being any Canadian options, and it being a public safety issue. Framing it as "Conservatives are traitors, ammarite" is kinda gross here tbh.
Fentanyl-stuffed rotisserie chicken found by Kingston Police | CBC
Re-watching it, and yeah, has to be gagged. If you listen closely, there's a small "click" after what at first sounds like "gay", which is likely an "ed" sound.
I think he was trying to say "gagged" but it does sound like "gay" lol
I blame the fact that alt-righters seem to be so invested in the influencer sphere whereas the far left types like literal communists and all lack that reach as they quite literally are anti-profit and don't get rich donor money to expand their reach.
Andrew Laviolette ft. Kristen Poenn - Shit From the Free Store (2017)
from the album Snow Tires
Andrew Laviolette hails from the small town of Dawson City, Yukon! This track is a fun little song about what a home is, and the joys of one.
Wish I could watch and see what specifically the video is about, but unfortunately on the bus and left my earbuds at home :(
In any case, not to self-promote, but I made this community little bit ago that I hope will help things out: https://lemmy.ca/c/maplemusic

The Travelling Mabels - Root Beer Rag (2022)

The Travelling Mabels are a band from Alberta. While this track is not originally by them, being from Billy Joel's album Streetlife Serenade, this version is in my opinion much better than the original.
It's a little odd. Click the search icon on the top right of the screen. Put in the search query there, but in the community dropdown menu, search for the community you wish to make the search exclusive to.
Hope it helps.
Remembering how my sixth grade teacher back in like, 2012, was telling us a high speed train from Edmonton to Calgary would be a stupid idea, and that waiting for the hyperloop would be a smarter idea.
Hope he's enjoying that curdled milk.
