  • Its a clear violation of the weekend saftey brief.

    • Do NOT add to the population
    • Do NOT subtract from the population
    • Do NOT end up in the newspaper, hospital or jail
    • If you do end up in jail, establish dominance quickly
  • Dont you think its pure hubris to suggest others effect this change in the world? Do not blame those who are just trying to tread water along lifes river, your not them, and you dont know their story.

The choice to reproduce is a confidence check on an individuals feelings about the future, and right now, the world is rolling 1s & 2s.

  • The historic context that makes Inferno so damn funny is that Dante wrote most of it while in exile from Florence and had a massive axe to grind with the people responsible for it. Glossing over the boring parts you can find on his wikipedia page, his family, and by extension Dante were supporters of a political party within the papal states (early 1300s) and they got ousted from their positions. While traveling around Italy, he penned "The Divine Comedy", a story about himself bumming around the christian afterlife with the Roman poet Virgil.

Overly Sarcastic Productions has a good overview of the basic plot Link, and Im quite a fan of their work (this is one of their older videos). The part that this meme is calling attention to is that Dante wrote several recently deceased popes and many of his political rivals into his self-insert fan-fiction of hell (Inferno). In modern parlance, he was being a massive troll, but that work is also so influential that many practicing christans can't tell the difference between their afterlife according to their own scripture (which there is very little actual description of) and its pop-culture interpritation by our Italian mad lad condeming people who screwed him over in life to enternal torment in his own renaissance live-journal.

  • Some old floppy disks like the OG version would be a nice novelty, even if noone used them. EvE online did a thing like that for its 20th birthday box. They included a floppy disk with some old game data on it (I think it was part of an ARG, but I just had fun trying to read the data)

  • Yah... After Nixon closing the Boston naval shipyard in retaliation for not voting for him, Massachusettes has done a fairly good job at isolating itself from federal shenanigans.

They will have a rough time when the dept of education gets completely doge'd but they will fair better than many other places because this is not their first rodeo.

  • Seconding Sea of Thieves, its a fantastic family game or thing to bring everyone along for. There is no "leveling", the only thing playing does is give you more fancy pirate drip. Game knowlege goes a decent way, but people just being handed a controler and told to act like a pirate will not feel overwelmed.

  • Oh, im well aware that their design was a problem and they corrected it in their current cars. Old streotypes are hard to overcome, but at this point its just friendly ribbing about peoples choice in vehicles, like all hiking trails have an orange Subaru at the trail head and Carolla drivers like vanilla ice cream.

We all can collectivly egg on Tesla drivers because [gestures broadly to everything]

    Question: self-hosted instant messanger.

Question: What do people in this community recommend for self-hosted instant messanger projects? I host a VOIP service for my nerd herd and due to recent events i'm attempting to migrate out groups chats off of the major platforms (Discord, Google chats, Slack, Etc.) as well.

There are a few notes that were requested/requirements.

    • Self-hosted
    • Supports images
    • Has a decent mobile app
    • Encrypted communication
    • Expected load ~25 users.

I am doing my own digging but wanted to hear the communites opinions on some of the projects that came up in searches.

    • IRC/XMPP - dosent really work for the request but is a classic, so I feel had to mention it.
    • Rocket.Chat - seems like the best option so far, but I was having trouble finding current reviews, and its licensing is a bit much.
    • Matrix also is close to checking all the boxes, but it wasnt clear how it works on mobile (Element seemed like the mobile app that was recommended).
    • Revolt was high on the SEO results but most of
