  • "I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith and I were on the top of a burnin' building, and we had to fight our way down like five floors of zombies and― Hey, wait a second...I guess that was you guys. Oh, shit, man, I can't wait to tell Keith about that one!"

  • Bummer - looks like your post did show on lemmy.blahaj.zone, and I see that you got one up on @gothindustrial. Leads me to think it might be a community ban on @spookymemes for why your toy post didn't show up there. blahaj.zone was probably just slow.

  • Saw your post and I got curious, as it's clear your new threads aren't appearing on the instances you're posting to.

Test run shows that posting to lemmy.world is working for my account: https://lemmy.world/post/6641504 .

There's a couple things that could be happening, but I'm gonna go with my gut and ask do you have any domains blocked? There's been repeated issues with domain blocking affecting your ability to post (in fact, I had to clear all my domain blocking to properly post to kbin). This is the first thing I'd check.

The next thing would be to see if those instances or communities banned you. This seems unlikely, as it's affecting you on both lemmy.world and lemmy.blahaj.zone. The last thing could be that these communities have defederated or blocked kbin users due to past spam issues (@Technology is still blocked on lemmy.world due to this), but I haven't seen it implemented in this way before.

But I'd start with the domain blocking - 90% of the time when people have problems posting on kbin, that's the cause.

  • I rewatched this recently, and yeah, all the cliches are there (some rather clumsily filmed even by 40s standards) - but fuck me if Bogie still doesn't blow it out of the water with that performance. I can't think of a single film noir protagonist that matches what he pulled off in that film. He's better here than he is in Casablanca by a long shot imho.

  • In theory they can, but it's very unlikely, as it requires a 2/3rds majority in both the Assembly and the Senate. One of the things I severely dislike about California politics is that the Governor's veto power is near absolute in practice. On top of that this state has an entrenched political machine that has invested in Newsom since he ran for Mayor of San Francisco - and many in Sacramento owe their careers to him. There's no realistic chance any of these vetoes get overridden.

  • Newsom, we get it - you want to run for president. But don't fuck up my state to do it.

You've done ok in CA when you've kept your mouth shut and followed in Brown's footsteps, but this latest bullshit display of throwing widely popular progressive initiatives (this one passed 66 to 9) under the bus is a slap in the face to all Californians, proving yet again that you're an empty neo-liberal suit playing progressive to pander to the public.

California is not your billboard for a future presidential run. Do your damn job and stop using your veto pen to try to appeal to voters who aren't even your constituents yet.

Cracker - Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now)

I don't know what the world may need, but I'm sure as hell that it starts with me, and that's a wisdom I have laughed at

I don't know what the world may want
But a good stiff drink it surely don't
So I think I'll go and fix myself a tall one

'Cause what the world needs now is a new kind of tension
'Cause the old one just bores me to death
'Cause what the world needs now is another folk singer
Like I need a hole in my head

I don't know what the world may need
    But a V-8 engine's a good start for me
I think I'll drive and find a place to be surly

I don't know what the world may want
But some words of wisdom could comfort us
Think I'll leave that up to someone wiser

'Cause what the world needs now are some true words of wisdom
Like la la la la la la la la la
'Cause what the world needs now is another folk singer
Like I need a hole in my head

I don't know what the world may need

  • If someone continues to harass you after you've blocked them, it's because they're lonely and want your attention. I've found that offering comforting and condescending words while reverse spamming them with Eleanor Rigby seems to end the harassment quickly... especially when they realize that they can't block you properly either.

  • You see, according to Cocteau's plan I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder - "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green jello all over my body reading playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

  • Regardless of what any of the Klingons in this thread claim, I suggest following S.P.O.C.K.'s advice - never trust a Klingon.

  • Agreed. I'd also like to add that intelligence != wisdom != experience, and you need all three to achieve real understanding.

  • @jcrm Lol - I figured out how to do this accidentally. You may have noticed that Jailbait doesn't appear in the top bar anymore.

It's because I posted this to it (sfw and 18+ by a long shot, but you'll still want eyebleach). Apparently that top bar of communities prioritizes those that have no posts. Take a look - you'll see every suggested community is empty. Posting to one removes it from the selection algorithm.

Pinging @ernest as it looks like the sorting on that top bar algorithm is achieving the opposite of its intended purpose.

  • I avoid this by not watching porn that makes me sad. There's plenty of consensual, happy, joyful sex-positive porn out there.

While your point is valid about this particular situation (which is horrible and criminal on multiple levels), your overbroad generalization of porn and the implied assumption of guilt in the viewers is what's led folks to react negatively to your statement.

On a larger level, this kind of statement plays into the puritanical doctrines towards sex that paint it as a negative force, and subsequently leads to the twisting of a positive, creative act into a negative expression of power and rape in those that accept those doctrines.

Porn is not at fault here, nor are its viewers. Those at fault in this crime are the producers and publishers, who were well aware of the abuses happening under their watch, and deceived their viewers into believing they were observing consensual performance acts. I hope that these women get every cent and more, and it would be excellent to see a class action suit from Pornhub's subscribers arise in tandem to and in support of their complaint.

That last bit would get them jailed in Russia, and if they took a similar stance against the Chinese leadership, they'd be vacationing in a re-education camp before Thanksgiving.

  • Came here to say the same. Lieberman is a snake, and has been using his position as the 2000 VP Dem nominee to undermine progressive policy for more than two decades. I have no doubt he's been bought and paid for by the GOP, I'm guessing right around the time he started rooting for the Iraq war (he was the biggest supporter on the Dem side at the time).

Taking a break from all your worries

    And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail
And your third fiance didn't show
    Sometimes you wanna go
    Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see (ah-ah)

Nearly five months after thousands of film and TV writers went on strike over more equitable pay and working conditions in the streaming era, effectively shutting down the entertainment industry, Hollywood studio and streaming executives at long last have reached a tentative deal with the Writers Guild of America, East and West.

In an email to members late Sunday, the union said it had reached “an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language.”

The union said it will share details about what the union negotiators and studio executives agreed to once union leadership reviews the final language in the agreement.

“What we have won in this contract—most particularly, everything we have gained since May 2nd—is due to the willingness of this membership to exercise its power, to demonstrate its solidarity, to walk side-by-side, to endure the pain and uncertainty of the past 146 days. The Afrofuturism movement within sci-fi may be equal to this moment, in part because it grows out of a history of displacement, atrocity, and instability.

One task of science fiction is to knock us off-kilter — to transport us to altered times and places, the better to question our own world. But sci-fi has renewed competition in that department from reality itself. The quickening storm of events in America in the last half-decade, culminating in 2020 in the Covid-19 pandemic and the uprisings against systemic racism, has unmoored us from old norms and expectations with a suddenness that societies witness perhaps once or twice per century. The future is upon us in its full uncontrolled ferocity, and it takes all our resilience just to adapt from week to week and keep steering toward hope.

But at least one movement within sci-fi may be equal to this moment, in part because it grows out of a history of displacement, atrocity, and instability. It’s Afrofuturism, the

So I thought I'd ask Kbin, what inspires you? Is it a piece of music? A novel? A poem? A picture? A philosophy? A spiritual text? What lifts your soul to song? A software? A science? A symphony?

Sarsina is a sleepy, rural town of barely 3,000 residents straddling the pristine Apennine mountains in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region, surrounded by stunning views and grazing sheep.

While it has a glorious past, as a strategic defensive outpost for the Roman Empire and the birthplace of the famed playwright Plautus, today there’s not much to do beyond hiking and birdwatching.

And though both locals and holidaymakers would agree that a rustic, slow-paced lifestyle is part of Sarsina’s charm, its residents were nonetheless excitedly awaiting the construction of a development including a new supermarket, fitness center and playground. But it was not meant to be — at least, not as originally planned.

That’s because workers at the site on the outskirts of town in December 2022 unearthed the ruins of an ancient Roman temple — or ‘capitolium’ — dating back to the first century BC.

In early July, a first look at the underground treasure came to light: a s

The Salvation Army has applied for a permit to build an eight-story drug rehabilitation center in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood for people who are recovering from drug addiction.

The charity aims to demolish its property at 850 Harrison St. and replace it with a high-rise that would serve up to 220 people who have completed the first step of drug treatment.

Currently, the lot houses a one-story commercial kitchen and parking lot where the Salvation Army trains homeless people in the culinary arts.

Part of the nonprofit’s the Way Out program, a fundraising initiative and treatment apparatus with the goal of expanding drug treatment access in San Francisco, the planned treatment program in SoMa is geared toward providing job assistance and eventually transitioning clients into independent living.

The charity is lobbying the city to help fund the programs and others that it believes can help people recover from addiction.

    Kbin Moderators Union Hall Magazine?

    Hi all,

I'm posting this to see if there's any interest in a Moderators Union magazine / community here on kbin. The purpose of this community would be to create a support network between moderators. Ideally this community would be a place to network, generate cross-community support, identify the best techniques for helping communities grow, and identify improvements in the Kbin software to help the mod teams thrive.

As constant users of the software, we have a view, particularly on a Quality Assurance level, that could be very helpful to @ernest and the development team - one that most standard users don't. As such, it's my hope that a community for moderators would help strengthen both the kbin community as well as its technological capability.

From what I can tell, there are communities for kbinDesign and kbinDevLog, but nothing yet for mods.
