Thanks. Just installed a new OS and I'm still working out the kinks. I had that extension installed previously but because it just works in the background I didn't even think to re-install it.

Ah, yes. Truly, I cannot argue against this impeccable logic. I am swayed.
Couldn't even read the article. That website is cancer.
I feel kind of lame saying so, but I just use Kate for taking notes.
I only realised it was supposed to be for editing code when it gave me a debug error when I wrote something with parentheses (what do you mean there's an error in line 43!? That sentence makes perfect sense!)
product could be on market in five- to 10 years
For a laugh, I occasionally review the 'Market entry' column on the table in this article.
I've been hearing this '5-10 years' lark for '5-10 years' now.
The Teletubbies theme song was pretty cool.
Heard of them, but couldn't name a single song or pinpoint their genre.
Checked out a song on YT to get an idea and it was literally just a generic boy band. I mean... I guess their songs rhyme? But then, so do nursery rhymes, and they haven't been my thing for quite a while now.
To each their own.
I'm not opposed to either. I think of this a bit like procedural generation, except better.
Speak for yourself. As an avid gamer I am excitedly looking towards the future of AI in games. Good models (with context buffers much longer than the .9s in this demo) have the potential to revolutionise the gaming industry.
I really don't understand the amount of LLM/AI hate in Lemmy. It is a tool with many potential uses.
I take posts like these as an opportunity to block people who spam Lemmy with stupid nonsense. I'm heartened to know I won't ever see a post by this person ever again.
I guess pretty much everywhere is authoritarian because they disagree with your definition of 'work'. This person was refused entry by Canada for the same reason. They would have had their visa cancelled in my country and likely dozens of other countries too.
Many countries specifically have a visa for people who will be working to support themselves (often titled 'working holiday').
She was refused entry to Canada.
In fairness, this person was working on a tourist visa (likely an ESTA). The only reason she was placed in US detention is because she tried to enter Canada from the US and was refused entry by Canada.
I don't support the nonsense Trump's administration is doing, but this appears to be entirely unrelated. ESTAs (eTAs for Canada) explicitly prohibit you from working.
B-but my hands! They're so BIG!
Okay, so listen to this, everybody. The Stardew Valley NPCs are getting all upset with me for digging in their trash, like, seriously? What’s the problem? I’m a genius, folks, very successful, and I carry this town all the time! They’re all like “Ew! That’s awful!” But you know what’s not awful? The fact that people showed up in droves at my last rally - a gigantic crowd! They love me, they really do! Without me here, Pelican Town would be in shambles, believe me! So let’s not kid ourselves, don’t test me, or I’ll show them what a mess looks like!
I had to read this 3 times to make sense of it... Look, I know full stops are overrated, but commas are important! And they're easy too, just place one in the exact same place you would if you paused while speaking.
Late response, but well, late's better than never.
The initial constitution of Gran Colombia (which also included Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela) allowed for jus soli (lit. 'right of soil' i.e. citizenship by being born in a particular location).
This joint state failed for a variety of reasons (e.g. colonial influence, regional disputes) and each country had to amend/rewrite their respective constitutions. Colombia rewrote their constitution to remove jus soli citizenship after the breakup.
Historical records aren't precise, but after Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela separated, the remains of Colombia (the initial 'parent' country) likely faced an immigration crisis from the 'new' nation-states. Adding additional restrictions on migration when rewriting the Constitution after the breakup was likely an attempt to respond to the immediate migration crisis.
Jesus Christ can you at least be accurate?
Speaking of accuracy, your comment seems to identify the wrong issue. Navigating the install menus in a non-Arch linux distro is pretty much analogous to Windows. The biggest difference is that Linux distros don't have 3-4 pages where they sneakily try to include privacy-breaching clauses during the installation.
The real issue is starting the installation in the first place. Windows is easy, because hardware manufacturer's have en masse bent over to willingly present themselves to Microsoft, Linux doesn't have this advantage and users must figure out how to get around the 7,000 different Secure Boot UEFI configurations before they can even start the installation process.
Some companies (e.g. Vow) are focusing on producing niche deluxe products that are generally unavailable to the public. Dodo is one of the animals that are considered in cultivated meat because then they won't be directly competing with the traditional meat industry.
They have already made a mammoth burger (sort of).
I get the point, but, well... Have you tried bread!? It's pretty bloody awesome and amazingly versatile! Pickled cabbage is alright, but BREAD! Come on! Discounting ethical considerations, I would 100% choose bread over meat any day.
Side note: apparently ships could keep a Galápagos tortoise unfed and unwatered in their holds for up to 6 months before they slaughtered them for food. This sounds like a truly torturous death, but from a practical view this would certainly explain why they are now endangered.

What's with the cross?

Hi.
Does anyone know why is there a red cross on the icon here?
This device is a Corsair USB flash drive. I initially thought it may be because the data was corrupted as there were a couple of years where it remained unconnected and I know SSD does not like that. But I formatted the drive (ExFAT) and it still shows up with a red cross in Nemo file manager.
Any idea what this actually means?
Thanks for any insight.
