Extremely hard even for a experienced engineers to find a job?
I'm curious if it's just me or not. I'm an SE with 10+ years of experience, mostly in full-stack with a wide variety of languages and stacks, and my last title was at the "staff" level. I'm almost 40 years old; not sure if age discrimination is much of a thing (my interviewers have been mostly around my age or younger). I've been looking for a job for months. I've been applying to just about every job posting where my skills match on LinkedIn, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter (mostly just the Easy Apply option lately, so I can send more applications out). I've even been applying to positions that just require 2+ years of experience; I'd take any job (except defense or big tech). I've probably sent something like 400 applications out at this point. I've gotten a few interviews, and think I did OK, but I guess not good enough since I was still rejected. Is this normal?
The last time I was looking for a job (2021), I only sent 20 applications out, and landed a job on my first interview. I also t
I'd guess it's mostly the AI autocomplete stuff. I.e. you keep on typing until the AI guesses it right then press tab to save keystrokes. LLMs are really bad at making test cases in my experience; they, ironically, can't do the simple but nuanced computations needed to figure out what the output should be given the inputs, or to recognize and test the edge cases.

There was a story a couple weeks ago about another person getting deported on expunged charges. I'm guessing some agencies still keep records after expungement (I've heard they still show up when getting security clearance), and they're using that data.
I think shortages will be short-lived as companies and retailers just have to suck it up and pay more. People won't be able to buy as much stuff, so layoffs and a recession or depression are likely, but there's not much I can think of doing to prepare for that.
I used to have lunch delivered where I worked through another local company, but the delivery was "free" because of a deal my workplace made with the company (it was actually not free, because everything was marked-up). It was more convenient than driving some place in traffic and being worried about time while out. Usually, I'd just take meals I preprepared to work though.
I have Berberis Repens in full shade where almost nothing else will grow. Hasn't bloomed yet though. Google says it's good down to USDA zone 5. I think there are more ornamental Berberis species and hybrids that may work too.
Probably because the article is from a business news outlet. I have heard a lawyer talk about the case, saying it was very unusually for her to be arrested for such charges (Leeja Miller I believe; not really a journalist, just a youtuber).
Interesting. Didn't know Canis Lupus wasn't native in South America. Also interesting that the Pampas Fox isn't even in the same genus as dogs, yet interbreeding was successful (by happenstance?).
Hierarchy must be limited to mitigate greedy assholes from gaining power. Capitalism is inherently hierarchical. Seems like some form of anarcho-socialism or democratic socialism would work best. And the democracy part should be built in a way that prevents one party or group from gaining too much power; using stuff like ranked-choice voting or proportional representation.
Trump and Bukele are ideologically alike. Bukele wants more funding for his prison, which the US is providing. The prison is basically a black-site with journalists given very limited and controlled access. For all I know, it could be a deathcamp; they do use forced labor, so it is at least a slave camp. Also, they never release anyone from there, which further raises the suspicion of it being a death camp.
He could be insane and doing it for graft. He obviously sees himself like a mobster and tries to operate like one. My theory is he wants to individually negotiate tariffs to solicit bribes from businesses and foreign countries. It's not exactly 4d chess. He just knows he has the power to pressure the richest and most powerful people on the planet, so he's going to use that power to enrich himself and family. I don't think he actually understands much about tariffs or much of anything though.
Also, the evidence of insider trading and market manipulation is pretty convincing to me. I don't think that was the original intention, but Trump, or those around him saw the opportunity and took it.
Years ago, I used to just ignore letters. Nothing happened for years. Moved and switched ISPs (smaller, regional), then was banned by that ISP after a few months, lol. Copyright holders can sue you, so it's just an odds thing.
I just use a VPN now. Used Tribler before I set up my Arr stack, because Tribler didn't work well with it. Tribler is faster than i2p if you use 1 hop, but theoretically, the Movie Picture Association could run an exit node and still sue you, if you only use 1 hop. (Actually, it'd probably be a legal gray area for them to run an exit node because they would be facilitating piracy).
Marketers were trying to capture the normally anti-consumerist young hippy market by appealing to their value of self-expression.
They can require ID verification of all users, as is done in some states in the US to access pornography sites.
If you're talking about organized resistance, the police can be greatly outnumbered. Mostly unarmed people took over a precinct during BLM protests.
If talking about defending yourself in your home, I'd rather die quickly at home than at a prison that tortures people. Hell, I'd rather die than spend 20+ years in a regular US prison.
I don't think they can. Legal precedents have been set that have destroyed the checks and balances and many rights have been revoked. We are going through a self-coup. The US is no longer a democracy. Future elections under this government will be rigged.
Depends on how injust the government is. I'm at the point I want my government to collapse; it's irreparable at this point.
Yeah, I have much more time in FreeCAD than PhotoShop. I don't think it's either intuitive or efficient, lol. But, I was surprised that I was able to both create model to both 3D printing, and create paths for my plywood router. In my experience KiCAD is near peer, because Altium also sucks.
Yeah, for all I know, GIMP is as intuitive and efficient as Photoshop. I.e. they're both as un-intuitive to me, and I'm not efficient in either (I probably haven't use PS in a decade). But, I guess being intuitive is a good "hook" in regards to market share. I am a software engineer, and do prefer (neo)vim, but I guess I started out on NetBeans. I kind of see that as a level-up in regards to efficiency; not sure if that exists in other industries.

Debt Collective
Just found this group. Thoughts? Anybody heard of this before? I've already been "striking" on my student loans so it does sound like an interesting group, lol.
