Each month, we write up a post for the instance to keep you up to date on the happenings going on, recent events, to give a spotlight to new communities, share knowledge, and provide a place to discuss as a town square!

February. Good 'ol Feb. It's here now, and it won't be leavin' for a whole month (hopefully on good terms), so let's put our best foot forward and hope it will return our courtesy.

Last month was a bit of a doozy, both on a global scale and for the instance itself (more on that below). This month, we'll be tackling how our members can become a bit safer in this increasingly worrying world.

Big Tech and mainstream social media have been a negative influence on society for quite some time, but this January has shown us just how complicit they've become in the rise of fascism around the globe, which only underlines the extreme importance of replacing it with federated, [Citizen Control

Heyo, just wanted to let Sydney-goers know that yous can grab free vegan meals from Newtown Station every Thursday and Sunday from 5:30pm (and usually until 6:30pm).

There are no "checks" or "qualifications" that you need to meet to grab some food or to help volunteer. Thought I would share this here since the cost of living is fucked and I feel like some users on this instance would enjoy the decentralised + horizontal structure of the group.

Why do we keep using something as bad as matrix?

No native proxy support (because it depends mostly on UDP and WebRTC), bloated clients (for the major part) and not truly decentralized (most users just registered on matrix.org's servers and seem to not even know about other instances or self-hosting).

XMPP has been out for years and supports different type of E2EE, from the widely known PGP, to OTR and the newest and most used OMEMO.

No web registration is required, you can do all in-client behind a comfy proxy (like Tor) :).
